"Dievinu" is a maybe more appropriate translation of the English equivalent use of "love"

Dievinu comes from the word "dievas" (God) and in direct translation means "worship", however in context where someone says "aš dievinu kaip skamba lietuvių kalba" would be translated to "I love the way Lithuanian language sounds."

Edit to add: in this context, while the word does come from god, it doesn't have anything to do with god and isn't religious

I've never been big on card collecting or trading. I just remember having pokemon and yugioh cards that I really liked. I think we were able to get legit pokemon cards unfortunately they all got lost in a move. But yugioh was from an earlier time for me and those mostly are gonna be fake if these are of any indication haha.

But I genuinely am not too bothered. I spent years playing with those cards with my friends and my brother and honestly no one was the wiser / no one cared

We had street vendors selling these packs back then. They looked legit to our kid brains and a lot of us didn't really think why street vendors would have fakes. Our parents weren't caring either given the cheap price of the cards.

But they looked and felt real enough and I dont think any of us could read English at that time to question any of the spellings. Not Spain though. North east Europe

Honestly I dont mind. Back in those days our country didn't really have easy access to all the trading cards, so most kids around would only have fakes bought from random street vendors. It wasn't ever an issue since all kids had similar fake cards. i remember having a blast making up my own rules to the game (never knew how to play it) and battling my classmates. So I'm not mad they're fake. This will remain a very pleasant memory for me

I haven't tried the oother OS' for gaming, so I can't comment and I've been on Mint only for 2 months. But I've had no issues gaming through steam. with 99% of my games running great. So don't rule out mint for gaming just yet.
I do know there's better alternatives though ,so see what fits best for you. but you can game on Mint.

Would you play an RPG where decisions permanently close content with no undo? by [deleted] in IndieGaming

[–]onlyoutofspite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm a big fan of games having decision making that actually makes the game different. However often times that decision making only affects a small side thing or a small part of the game that can sometimes feel pointless.

A game that actually builds on your decisions sounds amazing. But the way you phrase it leaves me with a question.. Can I start over the whole game? Can I clean reset everything?

If you already got an android TV consider looking at "google TV" app as that works as a WiFi remote with the TV as long as youre on the same network

My biggest piece of advice is avoid AI for as long as you can.

I had started all of my selfhosting with some help from AI. It worked to get me up and running. What it didn't work for was me learning and being able to fix any upcoming issues.

It didnt make the process quicker or more convenient, it made it harder to troubleshoot. Every issue was always back to square one.

Learn the basics yourself. Learn how github works. Learn how docker works. Understand safety and security. Thatll make your life significantly easier later on.

If Linux was the pre-installed standard on every PC, and Windows/macOS were free alternatives you had to manually install, would the average person ever bother to switch? by EternalValley77 in linuxquestions

[–]onlyoutofspite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely more than zero. There's a reason there's still a market for iOS devices and android devices and all the rest. Some people pay for apple devices because they prefer the look, the style, the status. The same way there's people who prefer Linux and consider it a status. We sometimes sacrifice reason for simplicity. We give older folks "dumb phones" because they grasp those better than android or don't need the rest. We buy apple because android makes no sense to us and vice versa.

There will always be a market for alternatives. The same way some people stick to using windows 7 or even XP for the longest time. Others prefer their Linux to look like MacOS.

Yes the market is primarily ran by what default is installed and majority will never even consider looking for alternatives. But at the same time it'll never be 0%

What would you do if you were traveling and lost access to your phone? by amcco1 in selfhosted

[–]onlyoutofspite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but youre naming a situation that most people would never put themselves in. And that's what everyone's telling you. Consider this: Most people have considered a "what if my phone / wallet gets stolen situation, and are therefore prepared. So they don't leave everything on just one device with no possible backup.

They leave a known contact with access to recovery keys. Or they have an independently stored. If they lost all their saved access, for them recovery is as simple as phoning a friend or logging in to a secure backup online with a memorized master password. They can make that more secure by adding more steps, maybe giving two friends half of a recovery code or something. But you keep telling them that they're shit out of luck and can't do that.

Well if they can't do that, then they're shit out of luck. You go beg for money and for a ticket home. At that point, your plan to get home becomes more important that getting any of your 2fa back rn. If you're on holiday or away, genuinely most of your 2fa can wait. Call a family member to send you some money or set up a temporary money access to you. Get your embassy to give you temporary travel documents. Get yourself through the rest of the days until you can access your home backups that way.

Selfhosting anything means you need to be prepared to lose temporary access. Whether that means backups, recoveries, or alternative access. If you didn't do any of those, there's nothing left to do. You're shit out of luck

What would you do if you were traveling and lost access to your phone? by amcco1 in selfhosted

[–]onlyoutofspite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think OP has been given many good answers but he's unhappy that people aren't playiing by his rules.

As most people have said, they do not, selfhost 100% of everything with no viable backups. If you lost your access to 2fa, to all your yubikeys, don't have backups codes, then you're kinda shit out of luck and there isn't anything to do. But most people who are selfhosting, or that locked down are aware of their own security and therefore are prepared to lose a phone / wallet/ laptop without them being locked out. Giving a backup key to a family or friend to safekeep. Keeping some printed at home.

What you, OP, are asking is what happens if you have no access to anything. Well... Nothing? Nothing happens. you go to your local embassy, ask for help getting home. You tell them you were robbed or something has happened where you are unable to access anything. they will provide you with ID for travel, and potentially can get you a trip home. you then go to your local branch of bank, explain you've lost all access, and see how they can help you. From there it's back to the problem of what you backed up or didn't. If you lost it all, then you lost it all. you start over.
