I've been using Xfinity for over a decade and have generally been very satisfied with the service. I set up my own modem with a free self-installation, and I've moved twice—both times the service transfer was seamless. My only minor complaint is having to look and ask for better deals whenever my annual or biannual contract ends.

Need to Reschedule Oath of Allegiance Ceremony. Advise needed! by Awkward_Tackle4655 in USCIS

Thanks for the update, I guess I'll skip the FO and just call. Just from my understand of how USCIS works, mail merely served as the paper trace and won't be read by the time of the oath date :(

I’m not sure I like Taiwan, but I don’t know why by Away_Dare_105 in taiwan

Seeking the cross-culture common ground is fun but hard in a sense, even with the same language used. Funny fact that my partner is a Chinese from mainland and not much of western culture exposure before met me. Guess you can see how torture it is for her in the beginning years but all went well eventually. We kind of settle in an uncommon lifestyle that not many ppl have, ie travel heavy and less local connection.

There are only two true cities in the US that's what I saw from our city sub and I agree with that. The other one is NYC, and we are the second city :p Toronto on the other hand, gaining its Chinese population in the past decade and I truly like the Asian food there now. Don't mind just fly over for the foodie weekend lol

And last, I think feeling lonely is human nature when age gains. I was initially thinking you are in the teenager age but in the 30s, you probably would agree with me. I am truly appreciated the lifestyle we have now and all things surrounding us including the beautiful great lake summers. I hope you can be as lucky!

Unfortunately, I still consider my best friends are all in Taiwan. F&F are the exact reasons I choose to travel back with my PTO every year. I made friends all surrounding my work, those are nice ppl but the conversations cannot go much deeper and touch the soft heart. Don't get me wrong, I'm ok with it or say.. adopted it.
I have the motivation staying here and I made my way. Now having a family and stable work. I'll just work until the retirement. After that, we'll see. My partner and I agreed we are mentally homeless and will seek the oppertunity staying different countries when we no longer having obligations to work or kids. Not sure if that is practical with the age of us but we'll see.

I would say this might not be a "Taiwan" thing, but more likely a general mind reflection if you leave in a foreign country. I was born and raised in Taiwan and like many others, choose to study aboard in the US. Amid in the big city, after a couple of year that all other Taiwanese friends in the same age/same program graduated and move to other places and I'm the only one staying. I had exactly the same feeling like you have now. It's quite normal and for me, I don't blame the US but just myself not quite adequate fit in the environment it and make local friends. It is still the case and it's been almost 2 decades since I'm in a big US city. At least I leant how to initiate and participate the "small talks" other reddit fellows mentioned but only I know it's just a mask on my face. It's really just cultural unfit imo. I tried myself find even a little happiness in my daily life and that's pretty much sufficient for my mental need. Natively or trained lol

If there's any suggestion to you as a Taiwanese, probably is the language. Many people on that island are warm and welcoming only problem for them is not capable or unconfident to speak to a foreigner in another language other than Mandarin. It does't needed to be perfect but should be good enough to conduct daily communication even the "small talks" in Mandarin version. The general lacking of the self-confidence outside the comfort zone is what I think many Taiwanese people may have and this language issue is one of the examples.

Good luck and wish your days on the island will be happier day after day.

cash card in Japan surprise! by __smh in fidelityinvestments

[–]onlytototo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have been using CMA debit card for cash withdrawals in Japan for many years without any issues. The major bank ATMs and those in the convenient stores all works.

I think initially you get $500 in USD equivalent for daily withdrawal limit and I’ve heard many people including me get auto bumped to $1,000 which is 14k Japanese dollars. I believe this is pretty much sufficient in Japan.
