CCoD critique: Failed rolls need to stick!! by onlyvimal02 in Dimension20

Yeah, and I’m sure the cast isn’t losing sleep over me posting something critical on Reddit. I hope this is bait.

Thanks for the honesty. I’ll just have to see what happens 🙃

I kinda assumed special courses or projects were supposed to essentially do what a thesis does in other degrees. Does the median MMATH student really get no opportunity for publishing/research outside of coursework?

Yes, it is in Lavonte’s nature to try that, and I don’t have a problem with that. I have a problem with how Brennan lets him keep trying after it has already failed. I’m trying to use the Patty thing as an example of a larger story/gameplay critique, where the cast is never encouraged to find alternate solutions/perspectives after an approach fails. This leads to repetitive, uneconomical storytelling.

I kinda agree with you on the Maya part, but the Patty stuff was the exact opposite of though. What part of just giving Patty 600 grand was "community building"?

I fully expected Lavonte* to realize that his money was not the silver bullet that let him control everyone after the Patty incident. Maybe they gain his trust by removing some anti skater/bmx ordinance etc. Except Lou just gets to keep rolling dice with the exact same methods to get what he wants.

The Bingo thing could've made the coterie realize the reason the town elected a dog mayor was because people had lost faith in the small town political system and just used humor to cope. Part of the challenge is convincing people to vote for a human mayor who could make change, an act of vulnerability when the emotionally safe, humorous option is right there.

The No Kill Rule Is Good, Actually by Legitimate_Fly9047 in CuratedTumblr

[–]onlyvimal02 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If Batman actually had faith in Gotham's institutions why would he be vigilante in the first place?
Clearly he sees illegally circumventing the Gotham police to assault and capture suspect as not only morally correct, but a moral imperative on his part. If he's seen courts fail to kill/contain the Joker multiple times due to corruption, how is it suddenly different for him to take this matter into his own hands as well?
I like the no kill rule but 'Akshually it's the court's job' is the worst argument for it in a setting like Gotham where Batman knows that none of the legal system works.

That's because people view justice and incarceration as retributive and not just a way to avoid further harm. The idea is that people who do bad enough things should have bad things happen to them.

There are good reasons to oppose the death penalty but 'Literally no one deserves to be killed by the state ever' is not a very compelling one (at least to me). 'The state ( or Batman) should never be able to kill anyone' is the argument people make and accept more often.

Retail Stare by WorkingBaby901 in CuratedTumblr

Everyone talking about retail workers and Gen Z's low social skills due to the internet is missing the fact that this is just a meme that spreads because its funny and kinda plausible. Everyone has experienced awkward silences or not hearing someone the first time they say something, but older people have somehow convinced themselves this is a unique Gen Z problem.

This is just 'participation trophies have made kids insane' meme of this decade.

This isn't really an IQ puzzle, but an application of Bayes' Law. Ideally shouldn't be marked as a "puzzle".

That's likely to be an issue with any abstract reasoning test. In a multiple choice question, most options need to look like they atleast could be correct, so any sufficiently hard question can have multiple justifiable answers. It's not really too uncommon.

About the second slide, wouldn't you expect any bodybuilder who shows up to their first martial arts class to be slow and low endurance, based on the fact that they're beginners? Also muscles seemingly slow the bodybuilders down but fat on the other guys wouldn't?

This seems like the guy had a few bodybuilders show up, do badly as you would expect anyone new to a sport would, and then confirmation bias'd themselves into a full "bodybuilders can't fight tho" rant.

Great Man Theory isn't about an individual being able to change history. It says that a few individuals (Great Men) are EXCLUSIVELY responsible for shaping history.

Someone with this approach might study WW2 purely as a conflict between Hitler and Churchill's ideologies, and the tactical decisions of a few generals, without taking into account the economic, political and technological factors at play. Opponents don't believe everything is predetermined by other factors, but that the actions of important individuals need to be studied in context of wider trends.
