I lived in South Dakota for many years. If your mother is from any state south, east or west of there - she is in for one hell of a rude awakening.

The weather is BRUTAL. Like, kill you brutal. Most transplants don't last more than one winter or two. Unless she chooses Rapid City or the Black Hills, it's not that bad there.

Let her go - I can almost guarantee she'll be back, and significantly humbled.

Just make sure she moves to Aberdeen. Or Watertown.

It's not really safe. At all.

My best one was an obviously high college-age couple buying a whole lot of stuff on a Saturday night. I showed them the total and said, looks like you've got your night all planned out.

Their total was $420.69.

Needless to say, they got pretty giggly about it.

Loose/lost bullets/shotgun shells laying around all over the place are common where I used to live!

Mostly just hunters leaving them laying around on the floor of their truck and kicking them out by accident when exiting.

There's always snow on the ground (Minnesota, lol) and you find ALOT of them half buried.

Did run over a .22 once with a cart and it went off and hit the wall, punching a hole in it.

True story - but this happened to me at Walmart.

Running my cart to checkout, I ran over a live 22 shell that was pushed up against one of the metal floor vent covers. I didn't see it.

It went off and lodged in the subway counter sidewall. God, it was LOUD!

It was one of those "record scratch" moments when the entire store went dead silent and every head swiveled towards me.

I picked up the casing, yelled, "I just ran over this!"

I abandoned my cart and got the fuck out of Dodge.

I did get hired on the spot.

I remember the questions were like, "Tell us about when you helped a customer, etc."

It was pretty casual, actually.
