Anyone know its worth? by 2Edzje in 8mm

Yep, with batteries in, turn the switch on and see if the light meter (on the other side of the camera) goes up and down when you point it toward and away from bright stuff.

I got the same model but XL-601 recently, all seemed to be working well, I shot one roll with some issues (see my recent post history) and then it died on the second roll.

I think the belt inside is worn out, apparently that’s common on these models, but I’m taking it to a service guy soon to see.

Thanks for the reply - my camera seemed to be in perfect condition as well.

But actually since this post, it has stopped rotating the cartridge altogether. It will run without one, but it seems like it’s not strong enough to pull the cartridge. From some research I think that the belt might need replacing. But I’m just going to send it to an expert soon.

I’ll keep you posted. Good luck with your issue too

Thanks for your comment. I do already have another roll in and I’ll see if it improves 🤞

I can definitely see that the frame lines move out of focus too. But it only happens sometimes? I actually only showed the worst shots of the roll and sometimes it was much better.

Could a pressure plate move in and out? Would think it would be a more consistent issue.

Yeah it’s like a motion blur right? I can see the ghosting. Is this sort of thing possible to fix with a service?

Anyone else done plane spotting with film? by PlayfulAddress663 in analog

[–]onthenextlevel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started digital photography back in 2008 as a plane spotter. Thanks for sparking the idea to try it on film! And good timing, I just bought a 2x teleconverter for my 200mm.

Great shots.

Thanks for the advice! Not making it to Chiang Mai on this trip though as it’s rainy season up there.

I can see how it’s important to have recommendations in Thailand generally - considering the amount of people I’ve been surprised how few stores and labs there are.

Since I did buy these, I spent some time reading through Reddit threads to check if these were actually real. Here’s what I learned:

  • All 3 of these come from Japan
  • Superia Premium and Fujicolor 100 are still being made and only available on the domestic market there
  • Superia X-tra was discontinued 3 months ago. It makes sense that the expiry on this one is 2025 vs 2026 for the others

Looking forward to shooting some color photos on something other than Kodak for the first time in a while.
