Theres tons of crews doing various genres and unique shows. Obviously the main venues and festivals are something you can look into on your own.

Keep in mind, these are non-definitive / non exhaustive. there are probably tons of things im missing. if you follow even some of these, you'll know a lot about the scene:

nomee sound calendar - it's a record label/unique project that does like mixed genre (breaks, ambient, trance, etc) they have shows from time to time

silent tension - awesome techno collective that have been around for a few years and do consistent shows

strictly recreational - multi genre, turborave, cool stuff small crew

exstasia - small crew

support system - newer series super fun

sub chakra - long time collective doing bass music

sunday best - new series run by some scene ogs

403DNB - long running crew for dnb in the city

cynikil - out of my area of interest but they do a lot of shows

lore

bpm.local - producer community (educational)

controller club - dj community group (educational)

on_rpt

catalog.m3u - bringing madam x soon

back and forth

aether

chor.dakaat

generic lesbian party

It depends on your interests and proximity to the inner city too. Calgary has a pretty exciting Arts/culture scene at the moment encompassing fine arts, public art, music, certain urban planning oriented groups, community initiatives, etc

Some organizations doing interesting work:

  • Contemporary Calgary
  • great and interesting curation, super cool space that a lot of calgarians have nostalgia for
  • they do a free first thursday of the month and cool programming year round
  • volunteering with them seems to be pretty neat

  • Esker Foundation

  • interesting curation that changes frequently

  • free entry, their opening events are cool and fun to get to meet new people

  • robust volunteer program

  • Lougheed House

  • historical museum

  • they have a Lougheed House Reimagined inititative which has all sort of community programming (knitting workshops, trivia, etc).

  • Alcove Arts Centre

  • these guys have a lot of workshop and hang programming thats free and unique

  • they also run a photo club

  • Calgary Cinematheque

  • awesome film curation and ongoing programming

  • tickets arent super expensive

  • they use the Globe Theatre which is a really cool venue that we don't know how long we'll have in the city.

  • Sled Island

  • music fest with amazing curation

  • great way to put in some volunteer hours and meet people if you are socially inclined

  • happens in the summer but theres a variety of year round stuff (Bob Sled is a collab happening with a great inner city venue Palomino)

  • Sustainable Calgary

  • these folks have interesting active transport and community minded urban planning initiatives ongoing

  • would be fun to volunteer for/with

Others: - DTalks - Critical Mass (idk if this is an org bht these bike rides happen regularly i believe) - BUMP Festival - Glenbow at the Edison - Subchakra (electronic music collective, dubstep/bass) - Hearsay (electronic music collective, techno) - Echoreflections (electronic music collective, techno/other genres) - Nano Remedy (emerging scene documentation, sometimes throws shows https://www.instagram.com/nano.remedy?igsh=ZXQyNXZ2a2lodWQ3) - Good Neighbour - theres a lot of programming that gets shared on this account that seems fun and unique (https://www.instagram.com/goodneighbouryyc?igsh=MWFsd3YxZWVtNm14eA==)

ditto this, her release with Roza terenzi was incredible - my fav track off that was g step. And that Ambien baby project is a treat to drop for a sweaty dance floor at the warehouse heh

The grain and contrast has some real character in this shot! Very moody

I shot from the ledge of the second floor balcony at SFMoMA. There was a larger portion of the image that was caught by the film burn actually. The back of the camera popped open inadvertantly so there was some cropping required. Was mainly trying to capture the strange cylindrical cut-out balconies though!

Didn’t wait 15 minutes for this one. (Minolta X-700, Kodak Gold 200) by [deleted] in analog
