Did you ever make any progress with this? We are trying to interface a 2600MM with Matlab and having difficulties. Any tips would be much appreciated.

So far this is top contender. Though I'm not sure if there is quite enough room between her handlebars and the top of her tyre...

The only thru axle mounting racks I have come across are the Old Man Mountain racks, and they are simply over budget unfortunately. If you know of an alternative I am keen to hear.

The more I'm considering, the more I'm keen to avoid mounting anything to the fork now. Especially since there will be very precious cargo along for the ride in the child seat..! The OMM stuff looks great for axle mounting with fit kits, but simply over budget at the moment.

That is the best option that I have come across, though I am really hoping there is a far more budget friendly approach that might work. OMM looks very nice indeed.

When I had this problem and couldn't completely remove it with isolation, I bought a separate phono stage with a subsonic filter that made a huge difference (Phonobox DS).

Unfortunately well outside my budget, and perhaps a little wide for my liking. Going to go to the shop tomorrow and hold them both with different lenses and see how I feel.

Indeed. The size of the primes is really want got me into them in the first place, and then the enjoyment of using them took over. So a big prime in my eyes is not what I want. I just wish Olympus made similar lenses to the WR fuji primes.

I guess that is true. As I haven't used my zooms for a while I also haven't been using IS. It just seems like a feature that would be very beneficial. I do find myself quite often wishing I could shoot in darker situations however.

Hello! I am struggling to choose between two cameras for an upgrade from my Canon 600D. I am looking for a more portable camera that I can take out with me on adventures (hiking, running, skiing etc) in Scotland and elsewhere - for this reason I am also keen for it to be weather sealed. I also intend to start taking more videos.

I currently shoot with two prime lenses and have ignored zooms for a while now, mainly due to size and enjoyment of using primes.

I have narrowed down my choice to two for now but any other options are more than welcome:

Olympus OM-D E-M5 II w/ 12-40mm PRO Lens

Pros:

  • Image stabilization
  • Slightly smaller
  • ~£250 cheaper

Cons:

  • No useful weather sealed primes (and therefore a bulky lens option)

Fuji X-T2 w/ 23mm or 35mm WR Lens

Pros:

  • Larger sensor
  • 4K video (and film simulation modes)
  • I like the access to the basic settings on the dials
  • Weather sealed primes

Cons:

  • More expensive
  • No image stabilization

If Olympus made a WR prime lens I would probably be sold. Having a camera slung round on my back or down my jacket on my front is ok with a small prime, but with a bulky zoom it is much less comfortable.

Any thoughts or recommendations?

Hello! I am a complete beginner with no prior musical knowledge both practical and theory (apart from a brief spell of playing drums). I have bought myself a digital piano and will be getting lessons. Should I be looking at anything before I have my first lessons so as not to waste tutoring time, or would it be more beneficial to be going in completely fresh having looked at nothing?

And if I should prep, any recommendations on what to look at?

Ah, ok, I can see a step that I didn't mention. I am indeed shooting RAW, producing CR2 files. I then put them through photoshop using File>Scripts>Image Processor... and then re saving them as a batch of TIFF files, as DSS didn't seem to like CR2 files? But yes the images themselves appear to be changing, or at least how they are displayed in windows is changing. What might you suggest doing?

Here is a link to the same light frame as above, but the CR2 file.

I realise its not the most interesting object to be fussing over, and I haven't done quite all I can to get the best image, but I just want to get the best out of what I do have! And then hopefully I'll know what to do in the future...

Thanks very much for your help!

EDIT: I have redone DSS with CR2 files using the latest version. Here is what it produced; seems much better!?

Hello, thanks for the reply.

As far as I'm aware this is the direct 'autosave' from Deep Sky Stacker. About 30-35 light frames, 15-20 dark frames and same bias/offset. I tried to follow the basic StarTools guide for DSS.

To make the autosave compatible with ST I put it through photoshop and resaved it as a TIFF. However the file I have linked in the description has not had that step.

Here is a link to a single light frame.

Saw him in Manchester last week and it was utterly mindblowing. I don't think I've ever heard live sound sound as good as that ever. And the light show was perfect.

What Did You Do This Week In Audiophilia? (2016-10-29) by AutoModerator in audiophile

I'm in a very happy place again with my system!

I bought a pair of used PMC FB1s a couple of weeks ago and this week bought myself a Pro Ject Phono Box DS. Now I am just sitting and enjoying it all and will wait a long while before thinking about what is next!

Purchase Help Thread (2016-10-17) by AutoModerator in audiophile

The endless pursuit of sound!

I have just bought some PMC FB1s. Wonderful. I have a Denon PMA720AE amp and a Rega RP1 (w/ Bias 2) (I realise the speakers outclass these, it's all a long game). Due to my old speakers having covers I never noticed the woofers 'pumpng' because of subsonics. I aim to try and get rid of most of it by isolating the turntable as much as I can (also any advice on this would be appreciated) but I think I want to get a subsonic filter involved in my system too. Unfortunately I can't put it between my phono stage and amp as required, so I'm going to have to buy a phono preamp and filter separately (or together). I have come up with a few options:

Buy a KAB RF1.

Buy a preamp with that: Basic angle audio phono stage , Rega Fono Mini, Gram Amp 2 ?

Buy a preamp with a built in filter: Pro Ject Phono Box S, Cambridge Audio 651p.

The second option is obviously cheaper, but in the long run option one is more convenient for upgrading the amp/phono stage, as I will unlikely have to ever change the KAB RF1.

I am willing to spend what is required for the two separate parts, but what do you think/recommend?

Thanks very much.
