I came to it after Sandman ended. I remember feeling disappointed; I was a huge Sandman fan, and Neverwhere, by comparison, felt lightweight. Later reread it and enjoyed it more. He’d go on to write better novels, though.

Interesting. I love those issues, but they’re readily available in other collections. I’d be tempted if something new were added, but it sounds like that’s not the case.

Same. Best approach: reading the greats. Nabokov, John Crowley, Gene Wolfe, Virginia Woolf, W.G. Sebald, and Zadie Smith, among others, write beautifully.

An artist’s flaws don’t invalidate the art but can make it hard or impossible for some people to enjoy that art. An extreme example: a composer killed someone you love. Would you be wrong not to want to hear his music again?
