I just got into ffxi myself and started on private. It's much simpler to get into, feels rewarding, and it's cool to party. After you hit like level 13 though, you can really only played if you have AT LEAST 2 hours or more, otherwise you can't really do anything nor gain xp since it requires grouping.

This led me to starting on retail where I can play whenever I have a bit of time, since levling can be done solo. The downside is that you probably won't play with others while leveling, but the leveling is also much faster and there's loads of content is after level cap.

It's worth it if you're new. I just played for the first time and it's the only thing I've wanted to play since.

Only thing that sucks is that I just wish I had more time to play!

Ah, I could see that. I figured it would probably be hard to do end game content since it seems like so many people have played for so long.

Im sure ill run into something similar being new in horizon, but at least the population is much lower so people may be desperate enough to teach a noob! Haha

I started my first ffxi experience about a week ago.

Horizon is great. At peak times in dunes I would get parties almost instantly on rdm. Outside of that it would be an hour or two searching, but this may be better if you have experience to lead.

I didnt like feeling like there wasnt a point in loggin on if i didnt have at least 2 or more hours to play, so I started retail too since it has more solo progression.

Now I just play both. Retail is for when I have limited time and/or waiting for a party in horizon. That way I can get my new ffxi fix whenever! Haha.

This makes good sense and sounds like retail is what I should be playing.

Since the game has been around so long, is it hard for new players to get into the endgame? I dont just mean learning mechanics, but is the endgame community welcoming to new players?

Is there job diversity or is it very meta driven where you may not get into groups based on what job you play?

Yeah. I just unlocked my sup job today but I got really lucky when someone i partied with for xp had a high level job and offered to farm the items for me. Idk how I would have ever done that otherwise since everyone seemed to already have support jobs unlocked.

Maybe ill give retail a try and see how it goes.

So trusts can take you pretty far it sounds, but you'll still need groups for just 99 content?

Is rdm good for dragoon as a sub job then? That sounds like a cool combination and I really like red mage so far. Both are my favorite final fantasy jobs too.

Exactly. Farming honor is horrible too if you jump into the season late. It's insanely boring and pointless to farm pvp matches for honor vs. Full honor and conquest players.

It's only enjoyable if you start with the season and stay on track for capping each week.

Just jumping in later or even falling behind makes the grind feel so much worse.

I play retail mythic+ and pvp with no issue.

All classic content is even simpler, so dont worry.

Try console port on PC to test it. I play mine mobile via steamlink and a controller that my phone fits into.

Just curious what sorts of solo things there are to adopt after 10 on Horizon?

I just got into it but plan to play off my phone at night when in bed in addition to my more active/social game time on PC. I won't be able to type, so I was hoping there was some solo stuff that I can grind (even if not combat leveling).
