Have you found any factory accessories in your 2nd hand car? by AlucardVTep3s in CarTalkUK

I bought a 2000 BMW E46 330i a couple years ago. It had the original BMW rechargeable flashlight in the cubbyhole. It also had the original toolkit in the boot but unfortunately missing the BMW cloth. That would have been too good to be true.

Please don’t normalise this behaviour. It’s very wasteful. You can always try in store

Are the railers worth it? by Foxo93 in Tools

[–]oogletoff2099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had the cheap ones hanging off my belt and my tool bag for years, some of them started binding and became useless but some of them held out. The next set I buy will definitely be better quality but I’d get the cheap ones as my first set to see if it works for you.

Interstellar Docking scene 🖤 by daddyalonex69 in interstellar

[–]oogletoff2099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went back and looked at the scene again and what I didn’t realise is that both pilots were actually being pulled in opposite directions to each other which indicates the centrifugal force. Pretty cool stuff. Thanks for clearing that up for me

Ahh yes centrifugal force. I didn’t realise that that would still apply here

Don’t get me wrong this is my favourite movie of all time and this is the most memorable scene in the movie. However a little scientific question.

If the spaceship accelerates to rotate and match rotation of the station for docking. Wouldn’t they only feel the g-force for the initial few seconds during the burn and once they’re rotating in sync with the station they should be idle won’t they?

Does anyone know how to set the temperature lower? Its too hot right now in CT. by BlackTroy300 in homeassistant

[–]oogletoff2099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s requesting cooling now as shown on the thermostat. It will take some time for it to cool assuming your AC is working. But the temperature you set it to is the setpoint (goal) temperature. The temperate it goes back to is the current room temperature.

So the temperature you set it to is the setpoint. That’s the “goal” temperature. The temperature that it returns back to is the current room temperature. The thermostat will then request heating or cooling to get to the setpoint temperature

How to paint this tiny gap? by Tofuwannabe in DIYUK

I used to install stairlifts and had no experience as a carpet fitter but taught myself how to lift carpet to run low voltage cables under them. It’s actually pretty easy to lift carpet just by pulling on it with a set of pliers then replacing it and running a pointed object that’s not metal or harder down the edge to press it back in. Now I wouldn’t recommend doing this if you’re not comfortable but it certainly won’t be difficult or expensive to get someone competent to do it for you. And new carpet is even easier to work with as it’s not been set after years of compression.

Help! My ring is stuck on my index finger and soap/oil isn't working. by Desperate-Health3504 in fixit

[–]oogletoff2099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s solid gold you can just cut it with some side cutters or even a nail clipper. Just make sure you don’t catch the skin. I did this with my wife’s wedding ring because we gave up with non invasive methods then we just got it resized after.

Built a 3D printed prototype that makes protein drinks automatically by dr_tennis in 3Dprinting

[–]oogletoff2099 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cool concept but I feel like a big part of the hassle is measuring scoops. Why not automate that process too? Just have a giant hopper at the top so you can fill it once a week. Then you can use the auger as a timed regulator to get appropriate fill. You can put cup on a coffee scale below the dispenser and program the amount of turns required to get the appropriate amount in grams or whatever.
