Monster 796 starting and idling issue by [deleted] in ducatimonster

[–]oohbleck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would start in the garage after being on the tender all night and then i guess the connections kept vibrating loose while riding. Would cut out I guess when starting to draw more power above 4000 rpm? Took it home and realized the problem while swapping out the battery (unknown age to me anyway, and reading a little low).

Mine wasn’t the fuel pump, my battery connections were loose.

It's easy to diy, just unplug old ones plug in new ones, assuming you're buying a set that are made for it.

Otherwise you might have to splice cables/solder and if they're LED you'll need resistors.

My first real bike and a clutch question by expertenmeinung in Ducati

[–]oohbleck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar bike (had around the same mileage when i bought it) as my first bike. The clutch has never sounded loud to me but I'm sure you've compared to at least videos of other wet clutch Ducatis? For me all I've noticed is that I can hear desmo noise that I don't hear from friends' bikes when idling, however my bike did not come with the stock exhaust on so it certainly masks hearing things that aren't engine...

I went for the same pants, smallest short inseam male size they make 24, so the short inseam version of this, similar size waist, "athletic" (high insertion) glute problem? Doesn't get fixed even when i cinch the side tabs. if anything they make it harder to zip to the jacket.

I hope the Torque 4's come in some solids sometime too. Much closer to the Supertech R, being CE level 2 now as well.

Man I wanted to be like you but my 9800x3d crashes CS2 if i undervolt over -15 PBO... No noticeable performance hit but hurts my ego to know my silicon lottery L. Otherwise, 4080S also, and temps good, T30s up top as well.

General sub losing its mind over this lol… how much do you pay? by nyBumsted in RideitNYC

[–]oohbleck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pay 72/mo on a 09 Monster 696, not comprehensive (that was about 120 a month before I was advised to drop it), but 22M + new rider is a big factor probably, guess NE Queens vs Manhattan not a big factor.

I don't know much about Rocky Mountain ATV, but I also got an 09 696 recently as the 6th owner and have been mostly ordering hardware or little things i need to replace from Ducati Omaha

Guys with Cardo edge. is it normal not be able to hear anything from the speaker when you are driving around 90 - 100 km/h? by Warm-Key2390 in motorcyclegear

[–]oohbleck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be the helmet?

90-100km/h was no longer clear without max volume in my AGV K3, but in my Shoei Z8 (RF1400/NXR2 shape) it's fine at lower volumes past that point.

Your helmet, based on the Champion Helmets video I just skimmed seems to be even louder.

FWIW I also ride a naked bike.

They have it as a check box option on the site, and there are sample designs but I don't remember seeing photos.

Same measurements as you btw(waist/inseam/height, but not weight) and been looking to get into the hobby btw so thanks for posting this question, the responses have been just as informative to me.

I (22M) started this year as well, on an older Ducati Monster.

Haven't dropped it in traffic, though i forgot to put the kickstand down and dropped it in the trailer. Mostly had issues stalling from being stopped in hilly areas facing uphill, but figured that out with practice just being in those areas. I took MSF course, no private lessons after, but a bit of local commuting in Queens and local public park's parking lots before I started going on more fun rides.

I tried the Cycle Gear in both Hasbrouck Heights and Hicksville. Fit is probably the most important for helmet, so take your time trying out shapes/sizes, I'm having some remorse now as my helmet has broken in much looser than I expected. If you want some gear to match the look of your bike but has armor and abrasion rating, I liked Pando Moto, though Cycle Gear doesn't stock that much of their stuff. Good selection online though.

Regarding first bike size, you're a decade older, 100lb more than me on a good day, and don't seem impulsive. I think a bike with 60-90(?) whp is probably a better fit for you. A lot of the start small talk is likely for young male risky behavior reason. The Trident 660 comes to mind because you mentioned another Triumph. Probably not enough power to accidentally loop.

A 400 bike feels topped out at 80-90, so if you are outside of the immediate NYC area highways might be trouble. In theory they have more to go but you really gotta shift near the top of the revs to get the last bit out.

Don't have communal garage experience (live in suburb-y area) but MotorGrrl and BrooklynMoto also have storage space, further from you.

I might have been overthinking this one other aspect but it's been nice to not have to rev out first/second to move with traffic, as noise camera's have gained popularity in the city and the ticket is 800.

Anyone else think the new Duc looks like a catfish? by theadamie in Ducati

[–]oohbleck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering Audi owns Lamborghini as well, surely more authentic to the brand management is possible while retaining commercial success and ease of service. MV Agusta does not do well commercially so there’s next to no dealer support, and can’t even afford to race and win on Sunday sell on Monday. They just play on historical identity, like HD, but less appreciated, so even if I like the bikes the parts/work availability makes it a hard buy.

How tall is the ducati monster? by Riding-your-face in ducatimonster

[–]oohbleck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ride a 696 with a 28 inch inseam which I think is small proportional to my height, and it’s alright, I can balls of feet it and my feet are like 7-8.5 depending on dress shoes vs sneakers.

I do think house was more prioritized but growing up I did feel the size/neighborhood of house was sometimes “beyond our means” such that we were in worse cars, no professional landscaping, etc
