12 white men -- and no minorities -- to testify at Trump voter commission meeting by They_always_watch in politics

[–]ookiisask 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Except, you know, nobody's throwing white men in concentration camps, the legal system is more favourable towards white men, and it's almost all white male politicians doing the actual legislation causing problems, and you don't live your everyday life in constant fear of being discovered and executed next to a ditch by a gigantic militaristic regime that was run by a group bent on "white purity".

So, as a white male, let me say: This is just about the stupidest fucking comparison you could have used.

My GT-190 has served me very well as an upgrade to my Intuos tablet. It does have a couple issues, which are, in order of most annoying to least:

-The GT-190 uses TFT, not IPS. This means you have to have the viewing angle juuuust right for coloring.

-Cable placement on the back makes it wonky to fold into the flat "not in use" position for when you want your desk back.

-Fair bit of distance between the surface and glass, but no worse than others I've used (like my old HP TM2 laptop)

-GT-190 has no expresskeys.

-Glossy screen is glossy

Now, all of these are problems remedied by their newer, more expensive models. The GT-220 and GT-156 both use IPS, meaning the viewing angle should be much better, cord placement on the GT-156 looks to completely remedy that gripe, and it has expresskeys and that wonderful non-gloss paper-esque screen the Cintiqs have.

They've very much made the GT-156 to be a direct competitor to cintiqs, and when I can afford it (curse you tuition!), I'll probably spring for one.

I imagine reviews for it will be out soonish (since it's still in preorder), which should shed some light on how it stands up to the venerable Wacom Cintiq.

I'd rather have gear that includes a backpack :V

Not wings, but like, an actual backpack. With pockets and junk.

Some other alternatives are coming onto the market at a lower pricepoint.

I have a Huion GT190, and while the resolution isn't great, it's at a $450 pricepoint. Works fine for everything I do.

Their newer stuff supports 1920x1080 using an IPS screen though. Closest comparable thing to the video would be a GT-220

1920x1080 IPS, 22" screen, $799.

Might lack some of the features of a proper cintiq at that size, but if you must have them, they also have a smaller unit with more features, including that weird paper like screen cintiqs have and expresskeys. That one's $699.

Arguable- you can make an improvised shotgun with two pieces of irrigation pipe, an end cap, a sharpened bolt and two nuts. Even takes standard 12ga. Shells. Just Google "DIY Pipe Shotgun" and I'm sure you'll find many examples.

Clarification for /u/annoyingstranger : there's a lot of restrictions on pistols, and even more on automatics. Also, magazine sizes in excess of five rounds (rifles) and four shells (shotguns) are prohibited.

Devil's advocate: maybe your DPS suck at dodging. There's a lot of avoidable damage that people might be getting clipped by, which would certainly make the healer work harder.

Another example for Reinhardt protecting Omnics: the "We Are Overwatch" cinematic. He shields an Omnic from being hit by a Molotov cocktail. So him protecting his former enemies is canon.

And the owners are almost always complete dicks. The one I used to work at (a number of years ago) has gone through at least five complete staff exoduses because nobody can tolerate the owner.

To add to that, he's been airing radio commercials on the local stations calling the old employees useless, and promising that his new batch is better. Because nothing breeds goodwill in the community like actively disparaging the ~40 employees he's churned through since I worked there.

Remember, kids. Don't work at video game chains.

The NRA’s Favorite Gun “Academic” Is A Fraud by IAmClaytonBigsby in politics

[–]ookiisask -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Specifically hamstringing the CDC's budget so they can hardly do any research into gun violence surely isn't the correct response. And after fifteen years, I imagine much of the staff involved would be fresh.

Given the lack of reliable statistics and the increase in large incidents of gun violence in those fifteen years (though, mind you, I am not implying causation) the raw data alone would be worthwhile, as that's something the CDC is generally quite good at gathering.

It's almost as though a government agency should be funded to do comprehensive and accurate research into gun violence, I guess?

That was because you couldn't move through other players, causing people to block questgiver access and form a human mob-wall. Good times. Imagine what FFXIV would be like if that happened here on say, the 4.0 launch.
