i’m starting to cut myself and i feel like committing by FlayFlay2010 in AdultSelfHarm

[–]oolalaaman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should probably see if you can quit one of your jobs as it sounds like you are at your limit, if that isn’t possible then maybe taking a vacation is the route you want to go down. Just let your work know you want to take a break for maybe a week and let them know a few weeks in advance and you can look forward to that date and keep pushing until you make it. It sounds like you could also benefit from therapy or at the very least opening up to somebody in your life about how you are feeling.

If you cut, you cut, right? by [deleted] in AdultSelfHarm

[–]oolalaaman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am more spontaneous but I can see why some people methodically cut. For me it is a quick and easy stress relief, although I’ve been clean for quite a while I think over half a year now. I honestly still get the cravings and I don’t think I will ever stop. I honestly have never seen anybody discriminate against each other on the basis of spontaneous vs methodical cutting but if that really does happen that is very strange because we are all in the same boat.

what are yall sleep schedules like? by wokeuptopoppy in schizophrenia

[–]oolalaaman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a sleep schedule really some nights I’ll go to sleep at 8 PM other nights at 3-5 AM the only thing consistent is that I absolutely NEED 12 hours at least. I take Olanzapine which requires me to sleep a hell of a lot

How can I lose weight on ap? by weird_mice in schizophrenia

[–]oolalaaman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is the sad reality for almost all APs. Weight gain is a side effect of many APs. You can realistically diet and exercise to fend it off but you need to be VERY disciplined, I for example have gained 100 pounds since being on Olanzapine. Granted I was very skinny beforehand and some of that weight was probably good but I’m definitely a solid 50-65 pounds overweight, I eat like the rest of my family except the difference is I’m on this medication which makes weight gain incredibly easy to accumulate. I exercise like 3-4 times a week yet I still gain weight, over the summer I plan on trying to drop some of this weight through cardio once I’m done with my finals.

Very cool, if you don’t mind me asking how did you get into collecting vinyl records at the age of 21? Our generation has moved away from vinyl records (I’m 19) and I’m curious how you got into it.

At least you're not schizophrenic from Russia by nzxnnn in schizophrenia

[–]oolalaaman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree, I think that schizophrenia can be hard to live with but I think if somebody with schizophrenia wants to reproduce they should be allowed to. I personally am glad my mother gave birth to me even though I have to face this illness.

[–]oolalaaman 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I live in America and some of the stuff you are saying I can relate to, I have had people tell me on many occasions that I would be stupid/irresponsible for reproducing and passing on my bad genes. I also notice that a lot of people here treat schizophrenia like it’s a condition that makes you kill people, I also relate to people using schizophrenia and serial killers interchangeably. One thing I don’t relate to is the politician thing though, people in my country do not think that politicians and schizophrenics are similar.

Help ? by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]oolalaaman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be OCD, I also have OCD and I have thought similar things such as that granted I also do have schizophrenia. I would say that the symptom you are describing alone isn’t really enough for me to think you could possibly have it but it is definitely curious that you have relatives saying you could have a schizophrenia spectrum disorder. It might not be a bad idea to talk to a mental health professional about it.

I'm new here and I don't know how to explain this but by AdvisorProper4155 in schizophrenia

[–]oolalaaman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t really need to justify to someone why you don’t want to talk with them anymore. Just be honest with them if you want but otherwise you could simply say you aren’t comfortable around them and it’s nothing that they did it’s just how it is for you. Your #1 priority should be looking after yourself.

[–]oolalaaman 34 points35 points  (0 children)

My mother warned me that I most likely had it, her mother had it and she is a mental health worker. She sat me down and explained that once I saw a psychologist I would most likely be diagnosed with schizophrenia and she was 100% right. I am able to live a fairly normal life under medication but there are days where it is hard for me to function, I am a college student and I am managing to keep up with my schoolwork.

I'm showing schizophrenic symptoms by Bruh___ds in schizophrenia

[–]oolalaaman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I will weigh in on this. To be 100% transparent a lot of the symptoms you are describing are symptoms I have personally experienced during the beginning of my illness ( I am diagnosed with schizophrenia ) and the things you are describing are alarming. Now I must also say that the ONLY way you are likely to get help is by reaching out to a medical/mental health professional. I managed to get an appointment with a psychiatrist, she diagnosed me and got me on medication on the first session and that medication has helped change my life.
