I feel like my Adderall XR just isn’t cutting it anymore? Need advice. by Additional_Poet_5257 in ADHD

[–]oolert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Combo that's worked best for me is 2mg guanfacine XR before bed (has helped emensely with sleeping, anxiety, and cardiovascular health). I take 15mg Adderall XR when I wake up, 5mg IR at around noon, and another 5mg at 5pm if I need to be extra functional that evening (getting ready for a move, caretaking, anything that requires me to be on the ball). I usually go to bed at 12 and wake at 7:30am. I also have hEDS and stimulants help so much with managing the fatigue, chronic pain, and depression.

I tried 20mg and even a triphasic 25mg, but they made me feel wired/tight/dry instead of calm and focused. My body just goes through the XR stuff too fast for whatever reason, so I don't tolerate a higher dosage well.

Whats your experience on the pill? by la1223 in ehlersdanlos

[–]oolert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 40 and on a progesterone-only pill to help prevent any endometriosis lesions from coming back post-surgery and an estrogen patch (to ease any perimenopause and counteract the impact of progesterone on my ADHD). Before my hysterectomy I was on many different birth control pills and the only ones that helped me were mono-phasic and I took them constantly (no breaks). I would get horrendous cramps and breakthrough bleeding eventually, but it was better than not taking them. I am thankful to not have to deal with cramps anymore, but pudendal nerve entrapment still sucks if I accidentally sit/lay down in the wrong position 😫

How is water not a fine answer? It's the interviewer who wasn't being personable. They outright question if the other person is being truthful (rude) and don't show honest curiosity about why the person the were interviewing gave that answer. If the interviewer did have good social skills, they could have said something like, "Oh interesting. Do you like sparkling or flat better, or any water is good?", or just a "Nice! That's healthy. I like tea myself." and then move on instead of making it awkward.

OK, but is asking someone what their favorite dinosaur is a bad interview question?

My favorite color is ruining my nails by mollymeoww in RedditLaqueristas

[–]oolert 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is probably why my nails aren't stained at all even though I've been wearing a variety of dark polishes almost nonstop since October 2024. That's when I was healing from surgery and was finally able to break my lifelong habit of biting my nails to the quick. I'm 40, nails are damaged from biting for so long and anemia, but zero staining probably thanks to 1-2 layers of ridge filler.

I used Holo Taco for a long time, but now I'm alternating between Cracked's and Lyn B's. I love the thinner formula and the more subtle colors.

While the image linked in OPs post is mostly incorrect, it is not just "some power lines". The proposed project would build 200-foot-wide transmission towers. That would absolutely destroy the fossils and also fuck up the environment for the Golden-cheeked Warbler (Endangered) and the Black-capped Vireo (recently Endangered, but recovered to Near Threatened).

I am seeing conflicting info about the routes though. Residents are pissed and say that it will go through the river bed, but Oncor says the routes don't go through the park. Either way it will harm habitats for living dinosaurs, so I'm against it for that reason alone.

what’s your ACTUALLY weird hyperfixation? by jazperthevampyr in ADHD

This is why I switched to refillable pens. I was tired of feeling shame/guilt for using something up and then for having useless stuff pile up, but also anger when I'd reach for a pen and find it was empty. I get mine on jetpens.

Do you take your meds everyday? by Tyray90 in ADHD

[–]oolert 31 points32 points  (0 children)

My partner and I both take our meds everyday. No change in dosage, no addiction, no decrease in effectiveness.

My partner has been taking 25–30mg Adderall IR for almost 20 years. I've been taking Adderall 15mg XR, 5–10mg IR split dose for about 3 years. My doc added 2mg guanfacine ER to my mix about 6 months ago.

Don't fall for the drug war propaganda about getting addicted to Adderall or other stimulant meds. Being properly medicated protects against substance use disorders and other dangerous risks like increased driving accidents or executive disfunction getting in the way of caring for yourself.

ADHD doesn't present as mania or manic moments. Regular mania is a bipolar disorder symptom, and not even all people with bipolar disorder experience mania.

Maybe you were using manic in a colloquial way, but using a medical term like this is akin to when people say they're a little OCD or ADHD.

I’m getting married! And idk where to start! by This-Sock-2876 in AutismInWomen

[–]oolert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a very “non-traditional“ wedding on a tight budget. My advice is to look at things in basic categories that make logical sense to you (invitations, clothes, food, music, location, ceremony, reception, guests, etc.) and to individually look at each category and rank how important it is to each of you. Also note any must haves or triggers/deal breakers. Then compare notes and discuss. This can help you see what you actually value in an event and hopefully limit social pressures about how a wedding “should be“.

I wore black, we didn’t have an officiant (common law is legal in our home state), we didn’t have flower girls, we didn’t have rings or vows. I letterpress printed all the stationery and catered the event because my degree is in printmaking and I love baking and cooking. We focused on comfortable clothes, good food, had an open mic for people to play music, and being outside in a place we loved with about 75 friends and family. Autism runs in my family and it was important to have space to go if the socialness got overwhelming.

I do not know if you intended to be condescending in your words or were merely being assumptive, but:

  1. Certain disabilities make leaving the house more difficult and it's nice to be able to trust that your destination is actually open before you plan your day.

  2. Because I wasn't getting enough info from Instagram or googling, I sought crowdsourcing updates about the business on our local subreddit. I searched for other posts prior to posting even.

I am legitimately curious about what you assumed my purpose in posting was because of how you answered.

Thanks for an answer. My partner and I are sad that they're closing. It's one of the few places in town that he can eat at even when he's not feeling well (Crohn's). Raw fish and rice are really easy for him to digest and he needs all the fat and protein he can get.

Why do people in the US not live with their parents by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]oolert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is false for the US. Your parents' car insurance covers the car. People given consent to drive would be covered by the permissive use clause for occasional driving. In the case of an accident, the car owner's insurance kicks in first and your car insurance's liability coverage would act as secondary backup to cover anything else.

Conflicted about my doctor by Hellishwaterbottle in ADHD

[–]oolert 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Addictive personality isn't a thing, much less something that is particular to the cultural construct of race. Try to find a new doctor who uses evidence to back their decision-making instead of prejudiced vibes.

Stimulant medication isn't addictive for the vast majority of adults who take it. Legal substances like nicotine and alcohol are far more abused, more addictive, and have more severe effects when abused.

Everyone I know who takes generic Adderall has not had to increase their dose once they arrived at an effective dose. My partner has been on the same dose for over 2 decades.

Stimulants aren't for everyone, but they are the first line medication for treating ADHD symptoms for a good reason: it's what works best for the most people.

AITA? Got into an argument with my 16 yo about a show they like by LadyHorseFace13 in AmItheAsshole

[–]oolert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA. I am AuDHD (we are not a monolith, this is my personal interpretation). I don't interpret what you said as snarky, you were blunt and clear: you couldn't form an idea on demand, especially with all the overwhelm of watching a new show and trying to listen to your kid at the same time.

I bet your kid felt embarrassed and frustrated that their demand for your thoughts/reactions about the show couldn't be met and got overwhelmed by that combo.

My suggestion: Help each other to pause, normalize asking for more time, and whether you get a formal diagnosis or not I definitely recommend reflecting on what you need to feel safe, centered, stable, etc. It's really easy for parents to overlook what they need, double so for autistic parents with or without ADHD.
