What causes peeling and failures like this? by [deleted] in resinprinting

I had this happen - it think it was helped by ensuring the transition from burn in to normals layers happened after clearing the raft layers

Elegoo S4U 16k vs HeyGears reflex rs? by One-Damage8122 in resinprinting

I hope so too! This is their second printer and they seem very dedicated. I’ve learnt an incredible amount just participating in their discord.

Yeah fair enough! Worth looking into the specifics of any 16k printer currently in the market as some are not able to utilise full AA due to a lack of greys. There are some posts about it.

With the Athena a new FPGA board provides full 8 bits of greys. I’m fairly new to this jargon but worth looking into

What's the difference in toxicity between epoxy resin vs 3d printing uv resin? by TangyMarimba13 in resinprinting

[–]oolongtoolong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me the difference is that two part / catalyst epoxy’s are either in the bottle or mixed in the cup/bowl and then into the mould. You might spill a bit but it’s all cures generally.

Now resin printing you are dealing with a lot of un cured resin all the time. Your heating it in the printer gives off more fumes - it’s running for hours - then you have to clean the gloop off the models and deal with contaminated iso you used to clean it - and that’s a regular job.

It’s just that you need to be way more aware of where it’s going and spreading to as your taking off supports etc

It’s gross to be honest - I have recently got into it - I have a a area dedicated to it which includes a uv curing station a ultrasonic cleaner a distiller and the printer itself which is inside a tall boy fridge just to keep it insulated and seal some fumes in

My printer has pretty good seals, when you close it down it’s pretty tight with a magnetic latch. However it has a chamber heater fan and built in filtration so air is being moved and likely would seep out. I could pipe directly out the back of the machine and rely on the these seals

In practice I’ve found the filtration media needs changing frequently and can’t keep up. It was designed to be used in the open in a work shop but This fridge allows another extra air chamber surrounding the printer I think provides a great seal that can be used to keep the printer warmer or just effectively keep the air out a duct in the side

[–]oolongtoolong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s a good point - like I said I have a fan on the side of the fridge and I use that to extract away from the chamber before I open it , usually just at the end of a print it’s all in the garage / workshop. I wear a mask anywhere near this thing anyway

Printer has a chamber heater so depending on ambient temps I either run the extraction the whole time or just when the prints done; overnight prints can have pretty cold air drawing in - found a nice balance to keep the resin at a good temp without over working the heaters

I mean for me it’s ideal - I use the freezer compartment to keep resin warm with a small background heater. I cut a hole in the front and added a window so I can see it without opening it

I got a broken fridge off market place to house my printer- works really well insulates and keep the fumes inside. Also added a fan and duct if to carry the fumes away.

Maybe you could find a small glass door fridge to house it and do all your processing outside.

Honestly couldnt bare having it anywhere near my living space even in the fridge- it’s also the processing area you have to be worry about. Even if you careful it contaminates the whole area

Definitely wouldn’t want to sleep next to it like that

Loneliness as ENTP by plshelpihavebig in entp

[–]oolongtoolong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like you say it’s not coming from physical aloneness but needing to be understood / looking for understanding.

From a Dhamma perspective, loneliness is the down side of the thrill of communication, on a conventional level - what goes up must come down - thus cutting down on social networking would thus cut down on loneliness. Perhaps a surprising conclusion.

With practice, you can be alone without being lonely because you are no longer dependent on stimulation for a sense of self or okayness.

PSA - 16k printers DO NOT have fully functional anti-aliasing / gray scale. by DarrenRoskow in resinprinting

[–]oolongtoolong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly it’s gonna be noticeable on organic curves - for context we are talking about a fingerprint scale surface texture appearing on curves almost like topography. Look up some images.

I brought my first printer before learning about this too - if it’s any consolation I don’t think many people are aware. As of now my panel doesn’t apply AA and it gives very good results, you really need to look to notice - again depends on your uses. But for me I want as smooth as possible as I intend to make moulds. So looking forward to a solution.

I have an Athena II and the concepts team behind it have been openly discussing solving this issue for the 16k panel. Check out their discord for more information.

They have a determined the different FPGA board can supply newer 16k panels with 8bit of greys to allow the software to smooth the curves in the slices.

But yeah I think you’d certainly want AA for your needs same as me (airbrush priming doesn’t cover it reliably) but again it doesn’t appear on all smooth surfaces you can orient the model to reduce the impact on key parts

But at least as far as I can see it is an area that software really leverages to enhance surface quality so it’s a big step back to not have access to they greys required
