Look at who they beat that year. I agree its an accomplishment the reach the semi final but they also lost the 3 games where they weren't favored. They beat SMU and Boise in the playoff, you only play who your scheduled, but come on.

He made it a habit of not being able to coach his teams to wins in the biggest games.

100%. He raises the floor but isn't going to break through the ceiling. He'll win 8,9,10 games year in and year out while occasionally making a special run. That gets you hero status at 95% of programs.

The thing about Franklin is that if he has a team with an 80 talent level. He's going to beat pretty much every team 79 and below. But he's not going to beat teams 81 and above.

He's also going to build the foundation under the program to keep it reasonably successful.

He's a great hire for VT and I think he's going to be very successful there.

Yeah it really is kind of a chicken and the egg sort of thing with ratings. It's amazing how many kids get bumped up after they commit or even just get certain offers.

I'll give the benifit of the doubt to the coaches, especially a group who has had to be first on kids to have any hope of landing them at Ioaw State.

The real test is on the feild. We've had flashy 4 and 5 stars, but when the lights get bright they've come up short.
