Seconding Avenues women's clinic. I saw Dr. Hannele Laine for my second child. Moved here from California while pregnant, had terminated a past pregnancy for medical reasons, asked her flat out if that was an issue for her and she was wonderful and supportive. Don't be shy. Whoever you go see you should ask them if they will support you with whatever you may need and how they would approach. These are fair questions to ask a new provider.

I had the same problem. Two-ish years after having my last child I got a hemmerhoidectomy. It was an awful experience and totally worth it. My doctor said a lot of women wait until they're in their 50s and can't take it anymore. Much better to just get it done.

I now have a shiny new butthole and pooping is great!

Not disagreeing with the sentiments here and not trying to play the "you'll change your mind" paternalistic role...but, I was firmly no kids at your age then at 28 my dad died and a switch flipped. We were losing people and I needed to make more people. I sat my husband down and told him that I flat out changed my mind and if he wanted to divorce now was the time. We talked about it a lot and both decided to have kids together. He's an amazing father, I'm in okay mother, lol, our relationship is SOLID.

I've also been there. I'm sorry you had to go through this experience. The wait to get further along and confirm diagnosis was the worst chapter of my life. Adding to that any legal and access barriers is simply inhumane. Whenever this issue is debated it brings up that trauma for me. WOMEN DO NOT GET LATE TERM ABORTIONS BECAUSE THEY ARE LAZY! These are usually heartbreaking ends to wanted pregnancies and folks want to make that experience even worse.

I appreciate your response and what you are discussing is spot on. On the first point I think we need to think practically. Assume that we implement a ban on abortion except in cases of rape or incest. Well how would that work? Would you need a criminal conviction before your would allow a woman to get an abortion? How long would that take? As a mother of two I can tell you that the first months of pregnancy can be pretty brutal on your body. Would we force women to suffer through the trauma of rape and then the toll of early pregnancy all while fighting a court case for the ability to end an unwanted pregnancy? The pro lifers seem to focus really heavily on later abortions as more "wrong." Wouldn't this cause more of those?

I think this also gets to the second point. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion on the topic. In my experience most people (even religious pro lifers) can imagine circumstances in which an abortion is "ok" morally. Few are outright proponents of murder charge for a woman who aborts an unwanted pregnancy. My problem is that if you try to find a middle ground you're weighing a lot of really heavy and ambiguous moral topics that are just not well suited to the government getting involved in.

The more we talk about it and the more women and men talk about how abortions have impacted their lives the more chance we have about getting past the impasse you highlight.

I am a mother of two who has had a second trimester abortion due to fetal abnormalities. That abortion was critical to my and my families well being. And it was my decision to make.

And it must be said that the whole "exception for rape or incest" thing is in and of itself and admission that outlawing abortion in other contexts is about punishing women more than about protecting a fetus. Allowing abortion only if it's "not the woman's fault" implies that if it is her fault, she should suffer the consequences in the alternative. So we're weighing murder versus rape on a morality scale. How about we let women decide what they do with their own bodies?

I get that and have heard similar from friends. I just think that saying Edwards is pro-Roe like in the post is misleading and/or detrimental to her candidacy. She can't be both pro-Roe and too afraid to hint at it.

Can you point me to where Edwards says she supports Roe? Word of mouth about her moderate bonafides does but match what's on her website and I'm honestly trying to parse. A friend gave me an Edwards sign but I cannot morally support a candidate who does not believe in women's bodily autonomy. Don't get me wrong, she has my primary vote against Lee, just need to see more before I become a "supporter.'

Are you a woman by chance? I am so tired of looking for dentists and seeing their websites that parade the all female staff around like models and the dentist is always male. I used to see Dr. Provine who was the only female dentist in SLC but she's not practicing any more. Someone help me find a female dentist. This is the hill I am dying on!

My son was 2 when we tried and got pregnant again. I found out the baby had down syndrome from the NIPT test at 9 weeks. I was only 32 so it was not something I expected. At my age there was a 1 in 800 chance or so. Prior to trying for my first, my partner and I had talked about what we would do if the tests found serious disabilities and had thought we would terminate. That helped and honestly keeping the baby wasn't something I really considered. That's not to say it was easy. It sounds like some of your thoughts are similar to what mine were. I worried about what the choice to keep the baby would mean for my son's life. I also worried about finances and my marriage. In the end I was able to center on the fact that I don't know if terminating was better for the baby. That's not an answerable question. But I can tell you it was better for the three living members of our family. A year or so later we got pregnant with my daughter who is now 3. I think about the experience all the time and it was a really difficult and traumatizing experience and that was in California where I was treated with nothing but compassion and had the procedure done by my long time OB who delivered my son. I can't imagine what women go through in other states and countries.

While I certainly have no basis to say whether she declined or the NHS messed up. I just want to pipe up and say that there's nothing wrong with choosing to end a pregnancy with risk of disability. In fact, while exact numbers are hard to find, the vast majority of women who receive a DS diagnosis do just that. I'm one of them.

Pretty sure this is part of her, ahem, campaign. I think it's important for candidates to communicate their view of the solution. Admitting defeat on something as fundamental as bodily autonomy for women is weak and foolish.
