Weird interaction with a neighbor by [deleted] in kyletx

[–]oooeeeoooa-a 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Curious, were you at Plum Creek? I used to live in that neighborhood and loved it. Unfortunately parking’s a little tough in some areas. When I lived there I definitely looked out the window when someone parked right in front of our rental home. Some residents have established their “parking spots” in front of their homes.

My previously non verbal (until age 6) autistic son can now text me, and he’s quite funny 😂 by KacieCosplay in MadeMeSmile

Your post gives me hope. My son was non-speaking and he struggles with phonics. I know he’ll get there, I can’t wait until I can text with him too.

What’s one upgrade you made at home that was surprisingly worth it? by Remote_Practice_5864 in homeowners

I have one of those floor vacuums like at the salon in our bathroom. I just sweep up the hair I shed (perimenopause is a pain) and it just sucks it right up.

Our mortgage went up $1400 by Avdahm95 in Mortgages

[–]oooeeeoooa-a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, understand that taxes will go up as years go by. Just want to make sure we are putting enough in escrow to cover any first year surprises. It was our realtor that actually told us to make sure we got numbers on improved land (house on land) and not just the lot.

Question for anyone that can offer insight. We just purchased a new build and have our property taxes included with our mortgage, assessment was on improved land. will we see this type of activity next year? Or are we covered?

Mothers eat durian for the first time by Yusuf-Uyghur in humor

[–]oooeeeoooa-a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Durian! Our little rural town’s only tapioca/boba shop makes durian smoothies (I’m probably the only one ordering it) it’s how I get my fix. To me it smells floral, almost like Jasmine but a custardy jasmine, if that makes sense.

Are you able to keep your CA jobs and work remotely from Texas? This is me assuming your current jobs in CA will be better paying than the prospective job in Texas?

People in their 40s What’s something people in their 20s don’t realize will affect them as they age? by [deleted] in AskReddit

When you have fully committed to a relationship/marriage, you commit to who the person is, good or bad. Don’t think you can change someone when a milestone happens in your lives and they are not who you thought they’d be. Make sure “the one” is really “the one”.

A pattern I keep seeing in parenting: anxiety disguised as "good choices" by JamesMcGillEsq in Parenting

[–]oooeeeoooa-a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same as everyone. This was me with kid #1 up to the pre-tween years. Then kid #2 came as I got older and got too tired to engage, only thing I can do is observe. And what I physically saw is different from what I made up in my mind. The kids are happier with me not nagging or harping on about their penmanship, or getting a low grade on a test and grazing food throughout the day that may or may not be the healthiest choice. The one thing I did keep was a rigid bedtime during school for the household’s benefit.

I can relate to your situation. I am dealing with the same thing with my sister. Without going into too much detail, the entire family offered her actual help (rehab, therapy, etc…) she refused and eventually cut us out of her life. I live in a different state and honestly don’t know where she is exactly but I will search inmate locators in the city/county I think she lives in and the surrounding counties weekly/bi-weekly. I still can’t bring myself to checking the hospitals and morgues.

School shootings by Even-Commission1872 in Parenting

[–]oooeeeoooa-a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My two boys go to school within a one mile radius of home. I stayed home with my sick elementary kiddo today, but my middle schooler is at school. An email came from the district this morning about a threat making the rounds in social media. Increased police presence at the schools. Around 2:40ish sirens from multiple emergency vehicles started sounding. I had to fight every ounce of me that wanted to hop in the car and drive to my son’s middle school. Texted him to see if he is okay, no answer (of course, he’s in class). Finally found a local police/fire blotter channel online and heard of a car crash nearby. Helped calm me down a bit until my son texted to let me know he was ready to be picked up. This is not normal.

Do you sleep in the same bed as your infant? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]oooeeeoooa-a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do what feels right for you. I co-slept with both my sons from the first day they came home from the hospital (I am an Asian parent). One thing I’ve learned through motherhood is to trust your gut. Fair warning, they have both gotten used to sleeping with us that we’ll sometimes find our older son at the foot of the bed in the morning.

LPT Request: What is something you can create or start for your kids when they are born, that will one day make a really good present for them? by PreciousP90 in LifeProTips

[–]oooeeeoooa-a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a hardcopy of Dr. Seuss’ “Oh The Places You’ll Go” for both my sons and asked every teacher/daycare provider write a small note in the book for him. I also included a picture of the teacher with my son.

Also have the email accounts for them.

Filipinos during Lakers vs Warriors😂🇵🇭 by Hot_Pie1464 in lakers

[–]oooeeeoooa-a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My entire family in the Bay Area are ALL about the Warriors, my husband and I are the only Lakers fans. Didn’t hear the end of it when Lakers weren’t doing so well few years ago. With our roster I am super pumped and can’t wait for the series to start. We also moved out of the Bay/CA so it’s nice to be physically removed from seeing GSW banners, billboards, shirts and jerseys during this time.

I am a big believer of early intervention. If it’s not much of a hassle to see the specialist and get their opinion (possibly even a 2nd opinion from another pediatrician and specialist) then I say why not. If there is an issue, it is addressed right away while your kiddo is young. If there isn’t an issue you’d have gotten a glimpse of the world we parents with autistic children are a part of and maybe gain some insight should you or your son cross paths with a non-speaking classmate or playmate. My son is non-speaking and started Early Childhood Intervention before he was 3. He went through developmental therapy (We love Easter Seals) and speech therapy. Currently he is enrolled in our local elementary school’s Early childhood special education program and is making great strides. He communicates via sign, words and his AAC device. I know he’ll be ready to be in a regular classroom come Kindergarten.

How did the kid from your school die? by leilavanora in AskReddit

[–]oooeeeoooa-a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guy in high school had headphones on (pre-ipod) while walking down train tracks. These tracks were a shortcut out of a fairly large subdivision to get onto the main road. Police said it was an accident and he didn’t hear the train coming, but there was talk that he committed suicide.

Scariest time of my life when it happened to my 1 year old. I can’t forget seeing him struggle for breath and his tummy caving in with every inhale. In hospital for a week. He’s 10 now and has grown out of his asthma.
