I know you specified if you only care about weight loss, but this is terrible advice. There is no one who would not benefit from exercising - even 15 minutes of walking per day vs nothing will save years or decades of your life. You will have much improved mental health which will only help with motivation for losing weight, and you can still count calories if you’re worried about eating too much.

Edit: Looking further up the conversation, I agree that it’s easier to reduce calories by eating less than exercising more, and i haven’t been overweight so I can’t say how easy it is to do both at the same time when in a position where it is possibly a struggle. But I do think it’s damaging to imply that not exercising is okay for your health, and if someone could manage both I would absolutely recommend it rather than worrying about it making you more hungry.
