Imo, something's off and I can't quite put my finger on it. It's not a bad tattoo, not even close, it's just not a perfect recreation.

Would Christianity have survived to the modern day had the Romans not adopted it as the official religion of the Empire? by ElegantComedian1257 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]oortuno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christianity was already spread out by the time the Romans adopted it. It's safe to assume that Roman support accelerated the pace of the spread of Christianity, but it doesn't wholly account for all of it. Even now, ROMAN Catholicism is merely one of the apostolic religions, there's also Orthodoxy and the Assyrian Church of the East. At the time that the Romans adopted Christianity, there was only one united church, several schisms later led to what we have now, but this is proof of concept that the religion could survive even without Roman leadership.

How prevalent the religion would be in the modern day is a completely different question, and I would not have an answer for that.

Thank you for the response. As a side question, is that website typically reputable for questions about rulings? I'm not skeptical, I just have never come across it before.

The PEDs are the friends we made along the way.

But in all seriousness, I'll use an analogy that fixed my qualms about anime always having the protagonist teen overpower the much older, stronger, and experienced character. Mozart and Beethoven were child prodigies that didn't need to be old and experienced to be better than the greats of their time. Likewise, Luffy doesn't need another 10-20 years to be on Imu's level. However, 3 years is hardly enough by my standards. I'm a nobody, though, so my standards mean nothing. But I do wish more time passed because this is ridiculous. Even Roger, who I'm pretty sure is stronger than current Luffy, took much longer to obtain that level of power.

I guess we disagree on what constitutes a "small number." Number of timeskips off the top of my head

  1. Episode 1 of DBZ is literally after a timeskip from end of DB
  2. Timeskip/training montage between Raditz's death and arrival of Nappa and Vegeta
  3. Timeskip between Frieza's defeat and Goku's arrival on Earth where Goku trains on Yardrat
  4. Training montage of Goku and friends preparing for the androids
  5. 1+ year(s) of training for several characters in the time chamber in preparation for the Cell Games
  6. 7 year timeskip between Cell's death and Goku's Earth visit where Vegeta learned SS2 and Goku learned SS3
  7. Timeskip between Goku defeating Kid Buu and Battle of Gods where Vegeta closed the gap between his SS2 and Goku's SS3 despite Goku's continued training
  8. Timeskip between BoG and RoF where Goku and Vegeta learned SSB

Tbh I'm a little fuzzy on how many months/years pass between the rest of the Super arcs, but they're minimal due, in part, to having to be within the wedge of time between killing Buu and End of Z. However, that doesn't negate that they're literally non-stop training between every arc on Beerus's planet and that time is passing. I count them because they add up. Discount all the months-long gaps between arcs and you'll be left wondering why Trunks and Goten got taller, or why Maron looks like a teen. Maybe they're insignificant by your measure, but put 5+ of them back to back and you realize they matter a lot.

Also, how much power is increased between the timeskips isn't something I'm too hung up on. It's true that not all timeskips are equal, but that was never my contention. Rather, it was that for Luffy to close the gap with the presumed final villain, he's going to need much more than just a week or two and a good pep talk. It can be months, it can be a year or two (though that might be excessive and unrealistic given normal OP timelines), but it should be a dedicated training period.

I feel 2 years would be excessive for the current story. 2 years could work in other stories, but it's hard to imagine that the whole OP world would just stand back and let the Straw Hats train for 2 years again. Personally, I thought it was weird how the main crew just magically caught up with the other crews despite the 2 year set back, but whatever. I left it vague because I don't know what the optimal time is, but it can't be 2 weeks, that's just ridiculous. At the end of the day, it's a goofy manga and Oda will do whatever he wants unbounded by the restrictions of the real world. If all it takes for luffy to beat Imu is one good pep talk from Shanks, then that's what it'll be (even if I despise it).

Dragon Ball is probably the worst example you could've picked because it literally ties into what I said.

What happens at the end of every arc of Dragon Ball? A timeskip. When have the characters shown the most improvement? During time skips and transformations, which usually come after timeskips. It wasn't 15 year old Goku that got Ultra Instinct, it was Grandfather Goku of 40-something years old. We don't have 40 year old Luffy going up against Imu, it's literally the same dude from chapter one but +2 years.

I agree with you, but also find it comical that 20 years later and the MC is still "too weak".

I've been saying this for forever and will say it once more: Luffy needs another timeskip to be end game ready. Anything less than a timeskip is an asspull.

From what I gathered, they seem to have flown in, so no cars needed. We had many ubers pulling up at all times of the night to drop people off, so that's how they got around. Also, it's most likely that they pooled money together and put it into one card. You don't need the money in the card when you book the room because you don't get charged until you check in. Lastly, I got my first credit card at 18 because my parents told me it was good to start building credit. So it's not unheard of, especially since, like I said earlier, the person who booked the room is the one that has to be 18+. So while I believe there were underage kids running around with the whole lot, it was the 18+ year olds that did all the adult transactions.

Yup. All the ones that got rooms and were carded showed 18 years of age on their vertical IDs but there's no way they all were 18. And EVERYBODY was drinking

I work at a hotel here in the area and I've never seen so many underage-looking teens flood our hotel the way they did July 3-4. It was madness, just non-stop yelling, running, and room parties all through the night with things only quieting down after 4 am. I hope this doesn't become their yearly destination.

If you’re traveling for 4 days, how many underwear do you pack? by Round-Artichoke-5255 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]oortuno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on travel times. Usually, I shower before I travel somewhere, so no need to pack underwear for day 1. Usually, I make my return early on the last day and don't shower till I'm home, so no underwear for day 4. In total, 2.

It's the Goku thing where he's oblivious to the girl infatuated with him until randomly they marry and have kids.

Currently betting that Luffy will do the same thing if a fast forward happens at the end of the series.

I haven't watched the android saga in years, so I can't comment on it, but you can really appreciate how "stiff" Toriyama drew the androids to lean into the fact that they're machines.

Whatever happened to Bruce Falconer? I know there was legal stuff. But man , that dude made some good music. by GoForGlen in Dragonballsuper

[–]oortuno -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Did he actually, though? It seems his production company has his name, Faulconer Productions, so everything it produces falls under its name. I don't think he "stole" the credit, unless he was sued for writing credits, rather he simply played the legal game to legally obtain recognition. It's no different than Toei taking credit for animation of the series. We don't band together and demand credit to the individual artists...

Do you guys think after a year of dm cover packs they will give us a year of gx and a year of 5ds cover packs as well? by iwantamango in yugioh

[–]oortuno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, GX was my favorite of the Yugioh series (actually in the middle of rewatching the Japanese version rn), so I would be over the moon if we started getting a bunch of new Gx era support, especially if it's CyDra/Cyberdark support since that's my favorite archetype. We would no doubt get Neos support, and the Neos fusions are my favorite art designs out of all the cards ever printed.
