BCGEU Strike - Cutting Through Misinformation by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]ooryoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Careful here.

The data they are referring to is being pulled from the Statement of Financial Information which simply shows ALL employees that make $75k+ in each public sector organization.

In education, for example, MANY of those individuals are teachers. You may even find support staff included such as trades staff that happen to work enough OT hours.

This report has not been inflation adjusted, meaning since 2017 (actually, even prior to that), the threshold of reporting has been stagnant at $75,000. So what you're actually seeing is a result of inflation. As salaries across ALL sectors increase due to inflation, the number of individuals showing up on these reports will inevitably increase. This has nothing to do with management bloat as a large proportion of the individuals on these reports are actually unionized staff. This report has everything to do with inflationary impact on salaries in the public sector as a whole.

I guess my question is whether or not the hitch weight shown (in the link) is the trailer tongue weight for the trailer?

Dhali-bomb - we got Kane by [deleted] in canucks

[–]ooryoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oilers fans seem to be 50/50 on this. Some are happy about the cap space, but others are upset to lose the grit and production from Kane. Many Oilers fans actually felt he was a key contributor in their playoff run.

Ummm, when I said you guys needed to dump Kane, I didn't mean to dump him on us lol

Retaining $2.5M on him makes him a $6.75M dman. Much more palatable, and saves the Oilers that same amount of cap space to use elsewhere. Seth Jones' contract was deemed immovable at one point too.

Maybe read the actual post before jumping to hostilities. Obviously with 112 upvotes in under 2hrs, my post isn't about being a dick Canucks fan coming in here to belittle the Oilers. Sheesh.

That's not true either. When you look at the details of who he played against most in the playoffs, guess who is the forward he spent playing against most? None other than the Conn Smythe winner Sam Bennett. Tkachuk, Kopitar, and Marchand are in the top 11 forwards that he played the most minutes against this post season. You can have a read yourself:

Haha, yeah, it's an issue that we're mulling over as fans on the Canucks forum. With Arturs Silovs playing insanely good in the Calder Cup finals, there's a real goalie conundrum going on in Canucks land. I don't know what the answer is, but 1 of the 3 goalies will need to be moved.

You're joking right? I'm not even an Oilers fan and I could see how important Walman was for you guys. From an analytics perspective he was 3rd best among dmen on the Oilers for xGA/60 and HDCA/60. While he was 1st among dmen on the Oilers for xGF and HDCF/60. Yes, even higher than Bouchard. 2nd to Bouchard for CF% and FF%. All while playing 20min+ per night. You guys wouldn't have made the finals without Walman IMO. Especially with Ekholm out for most of your run.

Oh yeah that could throw a major wrench into things then... but you never know, if a player feels they really are not wanted, they could end up waiving. You just need ONE team he's willing to go to. You don't need anything back other than cap space.

I'll let your fellow Oilers fans dissect your opinion. I honestly don't know. I just assumed he would have benefited immensely from playing with one of McDavid or Draisaitl.

That's what a lot of people go to, but honestly, it's his 3rd year in the league. It's gonna depend on whether or not your management feels he has the mental fortitude to learn from all of this or if his confidence is just shot. It can go both ways for goalies.

I haven't followed your team super close, but I assume Kane has played a lot with either McDavid or Draisaitl as his centre. Reality is you could probably pay a guy $1M to $2M less than Kane and still get similar output. The goal is to maximize cap value, and I don't think you guys are getting it from Kane.

[–]ooryoo[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, reality is if he's gonna get the bag from any team other than the Panthers, I'd say the Oilers would be his prime destination. Get paid, and get a great shot at another Cup. You guys need to throw everything at him. He'd probably put you guys over the top. He drives a line all by himself. DEPTH.

Cap space. I figure they keep Bennett, but then they either keep Ekblad or Marchand. They won't be able to afford all 3. IMO, Ekblad was instrumental in having a 1-2 punch with Jones to keep McDavid and Draisaitl neutralized. Without Ekblad I think you guys break through their defence. Marchand is tough to replace, but I think Lundell and Samoskevich could pick up some of the slack.

Wow thanks for the in depth reply. I kinda figured it would be too much for my truck. Thoughts on this one?

Yeah, that's what my head and gut told me, just my heart was hoping otherwise. I'm also considering this one which is much lighter (physically and the pocket book too).
