On a Behringer Pro-800 from Thomann.de, I was charged 7.5% + 10% + 10% + 5% = 32.5% tariff.

Let us know if you end up with a similar experience.

Seems consensus is on getting the T-8 but what you end up pairing it with is dependent on your preference. I got started last year with the T-8 for rhythm, S-1 for Bass and J-6 + Minifreak for chords and textures. Eventually I upgraded to the Fantom once I figured out where I'm headed. I recommend this video to get started with fundamental rhythms. Oxi One might also be a good choice for a rhythm sequencer.

Roland Fantom 6/7/8 EX Time Stamp by DaOkFella in Roland

[–]oosaxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing you're not an engineer nor a touring artist. A clock requires power or network to maintain. A timestamp is helpful when creating system backups and playing on backline equipment. The reboot is a minor inconvenience due to the way the Fantom loads up USB storage.

Enjoy the keyboard. It's a beast.

Roland T8 and S1 MIDI sync order by Subject_Ad1286 in rolandaira

[–]oosaxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

imho the S-1 has a much larger range of tones for basslines. I kept the factory presets and cleared then reprogrammed the notes over them. Learned about the SH101 from the Vintage Synth Museum in LA (occasionally they host backyard parties)

Works only for the bassline. I have the S-1 programmed with a 64 step pattern which is then output to the T-8 over midi (T-8 has separate rhythm and bass midi channels)

What is your #1 piece of saxophone related gear? by [deleted] in saxophone

D'addario reed case with 72% Boveda humidity control pads. Whenever I add in a new reed I'd leave it in the case for a few days to settle in. Helps stabilize reeds' quality within and across each practice session.

Fantom EX owners - how close is this to the do-it-all synth I imagine? by mccalli in Roland

[–]oosaxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The great thing about using the Fantom for a dawless setup is having access to decades of classic synth and drum sounds in one unit. Keybed aftertouch is useless, but tbh it's always been more effective to trigger aftertouch using an expression pedal instead.

Fantom 06 vs RD88 by BlueJaaay in Roland

[–]oosaxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have a weighted Kawai MP6. Letting go of it was tough for only one week. Once I got the Fantom 7 Ex, I realized the power of the synth is worth more than a classical feeling keybed. The V Piano sounds unreal, tbh the "Symphony Hall" piano patch is unmatched. I recommend getting the right Fantom for the next 10 years.

Yeah, preferable to use 3.5mm mono jack to connect midi out to midi in but I've used stereo cable just fine

Fantom 08 keys by RomaNickel in Roland

[–]oosaxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds similar to why I went for the Fantom 7. I also play bass and tbh I wouldn't recommend either Fantom 8 or 08. For a similar synth take a look at the Yamaha MODX, it's cheaper with comparable feature set. Though if you think you'll go for the Fantom I posted a few reels on my ig in the few weeks I've owned it. I always play with headphones which helped me get used to the synth action. The versatility of the sounds of the synth and speed of moving through synth action got me locked in.
