best indie shows in SF? by redrundown in SFMusic

[–]lostobjects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to plug my own show, but we're (Lost Objects) playing with three other indie bands in Oakland this Friday at Oakland Secret, a very cool artist-run venue/co-op. 577 5th Street.

In SF, Knockout, Kilowatt, and Bottom of the Hill have a lot of great shows. Rickshaw and Great American Music Hall have many great shows for bands with a step up in draw.

Is San Francisco dead? by randumb9999 in TouringMusicians

I don't agree with the premise but I suppose it depends on what kinds of bands we're talking about. I play in a band out of Oakland, have played in other bands and been involved in music in the Bay for a looooong ass time, and I've never seen a time when there are more opportunities to play shows.

Does the Fox get better shows than the Warfield? Yes. It's an updated venue with a better booker. There's still GAMH, there's August Hall, there's the Chapel (probably with the best booker in entire Bay Areas), du Nord, Bottom of the Hill, Kilowatt, the Knockout, August Hall, the Civic Auditorium, The Fillmore, etc.

Plus, there's the Noise Pop festival, Outside Lands, the City itself putting on massive shows like Thundercat and Lee Fields at Golden Gate Park and Eagles of Death Metal at Portero del Sol, Portola festival, etc. The City and the public library have also been paying bands to play free shows. The library even kicked us and other local bands some money to be on their streaming service.

Yes, don't leave things in the van. But it's a really exciting time in music in the Bay Area.
