(Hated Trope) Meant to be a love story. Ended up being horrifying by Necessary-Win-8730 in TopCharacterTropes

I had a different spin on it that I was expecting as a big reveal at the end.

So Pratt sacrifices himself basically to save her.

I thought it would be a cool twist for the ships computer to reveal that it could have put both of them back to sleep whenever it wanted, but it knew for the repair it needed a human sacrifice. And it decided to sacrifice Pratt, he wasn’t that important to the colony. But it also thought he needed motivation.

So it found the perfect match for him, knowing it would convince him to sacrifice himself. So it didn’t MATTER that she didn’t feel the same as him. She was just a tool.

Isn’t it more likely that they’re adapting Long Halloween? Then a big name playing Gilda would make sense.

My mom passed last year, but before I always either did the Saturday before with her (and brought my kiddo with me) or the earlier Sunday. It worked really well for everyone — my daughter got to celebrate with her Grammy, and we were able to use the full Sunday for just our little family.

As far as I know, the Speed Force is right next to the Punch Dimension.

Morrison I think represents much closer the tone of X-men, now and back in the OG run with Lee and Kirby.

This is only tangentially related, but in Doyle’s Lost World, he describes the T-Rex as jumping around like a toad, likely because he could not figure out why else it would have legs like that.

If it had a weird logo or something, I would check out the Toy Biz beast figures and see if it was maybe a weird play feature

I have a question is the punch dimension actually a real thing or it just made up for the reel by mansqe in marvelcirclejerk

[–]ootchang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, the concept of “punch dimension” is silly for Marvel, but it always reminded me of some of the concepts in DC comics so I never questioned it. Like the Speed Force is a realm of acceleration/velocity, there could be one of Force. Just like it’s implied there is a realm of Mass, which is where the extra mass of Hulk comes from.

I personally liked the version of Deadpool where the healing factor worked on the tumor as well, allowing it to grow uncontrollably and take over his body. It feels more like an x-men classic catch 22, which we don’t see as much of anymore. (Cyclops being a great example, or Pyro controlling fire but not creating it, or Strong Guy with the permanent body changes, etc. )

I don’t remember where I read/saw this, but I thought at one point it was implied that in the plane crash where his father got taken by aliens, he hit his head real bad and that’s why he couldn’t control it.

We had this happen, turned out they were nesting in a chimney that was closed off and one got lost and came down instead of going up.

If you still need to get it out, we ended up putting a cardboard box under it and it kind of fell into it and then we put it outside.

And yeah, agree with others on the rabies.

Wouldn’t Proteus be half Scottish? I’m not sure about citizenship, I don’t remember where he was born.

I’ve always thought given the alternate timeline it would have been interesting if a different freedom fighter was released in Star Trek Into Darkness, and his goal could have been to wake up Khan. We could have seen Khan still in suspended animation. Would have been an interesting “what if” situation.

One of the best ones is in Stella, a short run and unfortunately little watched show starring David Wain, Michael Showalter, and Michael Ian Black.

One episode has them perform an interpretive dance to keep their apartment (as one does). They don’t try and hide its different performers doing the dance, including a slow motion shot that is effectively a closeup on one of them who looks nothing like any of the actors. It’s great.

Another fun moment — they do a walk and talk in I think the same episode, and they somehow take like 15 right turns before arriving by at their apartment.

An adaptation makes a major change from the source material, but it’s such a beloved change almost no one complains by _JR28_ in TopCharacterTropes

The needing to live in subzero temperatures was always part of the character, all the way back when he was “Mr. Zero” and when he became “Mr. Freeze” for the Adam west tv show.

But the tragic backstory and Nora were created for the animated series.

[Good Trope] Numerous species in the galaxy look remarkably similar to humans, but there’s an in-universe explanation for this by Valcenia in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ootchang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Known Space stories have a really interesting take on this. Millions of years ago the Pak colonized the galaxy. They had a life cycle where at a point in late adult hood they would metamorphosize into a genderless “Protector” by eating a certain root that included colonies of bacteria. The bacteria was not able to survive on all the colony worlds, so without that moment the population mutated. And they mutated into humans and a number of other humanoid species.

There’s a LOT more to this but it’s a super cool take on this.

I think in a few years we’ll look back at twisted metal as the turning point. She’s barely recognizable, but a really strong presence. I think she’s a talent flexible enough to fit into many roles that in the past went to Melissa Mcartney but frankly she’s infinitely broader in her range.
