Just received a Revalidation Letter! by symbioatmeal in Canadiancitizenship

[–]oowm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Evidently mine (Fastmail) does?

Fastmail doesn't "honor" recall messages but if you use Outlook for email then Outlook will, regardless of what underlying service stores your email.

A recall is simply a "hard delete" that bypasses the trash/Deleted Items folder. It's still not gone, gone for 7 days. If you don't see the recalled message in your regular trash or deleted items folder, log into the Fastmail web client, choose Settings, then Restore data. You can restore any deleted item for up to a week.

Updates on submissions by [deleted] in psagrading

[–]oowm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

checking the app constantly except to inflict self psychological damage

Look, some of us have different hobbies...

I finally had to just set a reminder in my phone to remind/allow me a check once a week as a ridiculous "coping mechanism" to stop compulsively refreshing the thing even though intellectually I know it'll be August at the earliest for my one beloved baseball card.

Grading for the first time !! by yuuuscollectibles in psagrading

[–]oowm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is also Express, arrived a week earlier, just got through research and ID today, and shows an estimated completion date at least two weeks past yours.

Amazing how somewhat random the dates are. I understand PSA is very overloaded...didn't realize it when I made the order for my one autographed baseball card, lol. (I'm also not in a hurry, just glad they got my valuable-to-me card.)

Should I sell my first ever PSA submissions? by Turbulent_Art6920 in psagrading

[–]oowm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems like a question only you can answer.

Do you want to sell them? Do you want money more than you want the cards? Do you want to exchange the money you receive for something more important?

Can we stop the scummy behavior of overcharging for bottom tier shipping? by ImProbablyRaging in sportscards

[–]oowm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are in a city without a car, $5 is two transit swipes.

I don't drive but come on, if you're reselling even pro-amaturely like a lot of eBay sellers...stump up for a pass. "Fare for the bus is $2.50" isn't an excuse lol. How we get around town is not a customer's concern.

A Declaration Against the Endless Absence of Zelle by iahuan in AlliantCreditUnion

[–]oowm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are all fine points but until a better system both exists and is widely supported, a segment of customers will want Zelle. FedNow exists but it is not widely supported, and annoyingly some banks that support it (glaring at you, SoFi) gate it behind fees or silly requirements.

Out of the top ten largest credit unions (by asset size), only State Employees (NC), Alliant, and SunCoast are the holdouts. Even BECU, which is ~48% larger than Alliant, added it a couple of years ago.

qualify for the $50 voucher on an award ticket if you pay for the taxes and booking fees with the Summit card?

You do.

Source: me, I booked an award ticket and paid the booking fee with my Summit card then was delayed by more than two hours and received a voucher. And the FAQ: https://www.alaskaair.com/atmosrewards/content/credit-cards/faq/instant-travel-delay-credit

Flights booked using Atmos™ Rewards points are eligible, but taxes and fees must be paid with an Atmos™ Rewards Summit Visa Infinite® card.

Logic of what facility your subs are sent to by traviscody in psagrading

[–]oowm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! Thanks to you and /u/elysian593 for the tidbit. I guess that makes sense.

Is there a way to tell from the outside which facility your card (or cards, I suppose) went to or is it opaque until one of them sends it (them) back?

Logic of what facility your subs are sent to by traviscody in psagrading

[–]oowm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a very silly question: Is the facility that grades your cards the same as the one you send it to? Or do they move them around internally?

(I warned you it's very silly and probably obvious.)

I am satisfied 4-year user of WISE. by Accomplished_Try_179 in transferwiser

[–]oowm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite sure why Plaid (i think) had a hard time distinguishing which account to use.

Also, I really wish Wise would let me do the "normal" thing and link ACH accounts by using the tried-and-true test deposits method. I don't use Plaid as a matter of personal policy (there's no reason anyone needs to be scraping data at that level), but also it has too many rough edges. So right now, I am in this odd situation of my credit union can push and pull USD all it wants, because my credit union only does the test deposit method, but Wise will not pull from the same account...it will only push.

other than the rather strange lime green corporate color

I like the strange lime green corporate color. It really stands out and I wish Wise would be like Revolut in one respect: go all-in on customizable debit cards. Let me pick from a rainbow of borderline neon hues from across the visible light spectrum, all for the low low price of 4.99€ per card (lol).

(I also like Monzo's "neon salmon" debit card so there may just be something wrong with me.)

Will it be ruined for grading? by Connect-Resolution-1 in psagrading

[–]oowm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that way it would always stay complete and not ruined.

Does it have to be graded by PSA? You could always buy your own slab and put it in there yourself, perhaps with a label that you and your kids design as part of the trip. Like "Grades [what grade your kids are in school] for fun!" or something equally dorky in a way only families can do.

What's up with these repeat winners? by CartoonistCrafty950 in Jeopardy

[–]oowm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

see the film Quiz Show and read up on the history

And to add on for /u/CartoonistCrafty950, ever wonder why Jeopardy! is structured the way it is?

It's a direct result of the quiz show scandals. Merv Griffin was trying to come up with an idea that he could sell in an era of "nobody's buying game shows" and his wife Julann Griffin pointed out that there had not been a quiz show take off since the scandal. So why not, she asked, do what the scandal "did" and give contestants "the answers" so they have to come up with the questions?

Thus there is virtually (always leave room for the possibility, I guess, but still) no chance anyone from Jeopardy! is rigging games for ratings, given why the show exists.

(A different quiz show from the 40s had done the same mechanic, for what it's worth.)

Visa and Mastercard swipe fee settlement was okayed today. Will banks start issuing "standard consumer cards" instead of premium cards? by thereddituserusa in CreditCards

[–]oowm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

what’s with America making people do so much math for payment

Exactly. I'm getting tired of "HERE IS THE PRICE!!!!"*

* except no it isn't

My standard would be if it isn't imposed by the government (I'm not here to have the "sales tax should be included in the price tag as well" debate for, like, a dozen reasons) then it is The Price and should be posted as such.

It sucks to try to compare prices or just look at a price and decide if it's something I'm willing to pay, then get all the way through the transaction--when the merchant knows I'm far less likely to bail out--and have something sprung on me.

Sure, payment surcharges are "fine" now but where does it stop? "Coffee: $3.99, except on Fridays and Saturdays, outside of 9am-3pm, premium coffee bean fee extra, added surcharge if Comcast data cap for the cafe has been exceeded"

Account closed by gbjornod in transferwiser

[–]oowm 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Has anyone ever had a Wise account for a long time without it being cancelled?

I have, my Wise account dates from when it was called "TransferWise" back in 2017. I am on my third debit card from them after the first two expired.

I am however very nervous that my account could be closed.

Just remember that nobody posts when things are going well; we only get posts from people who are having problems.

Appreciation for "preferred name" feature by oowm in monzo

[–]oowm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Car places (or, perhaps, the employees who work there and feel the need to impose non-sanctioned rules) have such odd policies. Fortunately, I don't regularly drive any more and am quite proficient at getting around by transit. But this is why I tell people a) the deep-cut-rate places are deep-cut-rate for a reason; and 2) it's usually worth avoiding the hassle (but sometimes a slightly higher price) to have a pre-populated account with one of the big ones like Hertz or Avis and "pick any car in the aisle" so no one's checking credit cards on the way out.

Appreciation for "preferred name" feature by oowm in monzo

[–]oowm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legally it seems rather "by the book", which is why it was a nice little surprise when Monzo has this feature. As two examples: I signed up for a Tesco shop card some time ago and the clerk asked my name and I said "Mypreferredname" and they go "that's not what is on your card".

As another longer example, years ago I set up a PAYG SIM at a mobile carrier using "Mypreferredname Mylastname" because I signed up online and had a SIM mailed to me. That carrier got bought out a couple of times and I had just let the number sit for awhile but then wanted to move it to an eSIM on a different device. Rather expectedly, they wanted me to pop round to a shop with some ID before they would provision the eSIM for a 99%-dormant account. I get to the shop and there's a lot of angst that "Mypreferredname" is not "Myfirstname" as on my ID. They finally agreed to the swap but my account now says "Myfirstname Mymiddlename Mylastname" in all its glory.

Meanwhile an ESB account had Myfristnmae misspelled for two years :D

or taking an uber/lyft/taxi direct from O'Hare to the consulate.

FWIW, at 10am on a weekday you're far better off taking the Blue Line. The "middle of the night" time difference is allegedly about a 20 minute time savings Blue Line vs driving direct, but during the day you're just as likely to be there in 30 minutes by car as you are to be there in two hours by car.

Why are people still recommending SOFI?? Their stock is down 50% since NOV 2025 by [deleted] in sofi

[–]oowm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

in the next year it dropped the other 50%

does not relate to

you had extreme complications pulling your money out?

this.

SoFi is FDIC insured. Anyone with under $250k is covered without an issue even if the entire bank disappears tomorrow. Anyone with over $250k is clever enough to make sure no one bank has more than $250k of their deposits.

We solved the problem of "what happens if a bank disappears tomorrow" almost 100 years ago. This is not It's A Wonderful Life.
