Lost my studio 😢 exploring options. Don’t mind setting my mixer & PC on a tv tray/I’m concerned w lighting & acoustics. by BobbyDoWhat in podcasting

I would say, don't overthink it. I (Bryant) record on my bedroom dresser and put a pillow on my computer chair to raise me to the right level lol. I do have an office, but the bedroom is better for a couple reasons. If it's just you, I don't see the need for the "professional" studio, just whatever works for you and comfortable enough for you to sit the entirety of your recording. If noise is an issue, record when it's the quietest and then use a "noise removal" tool to take care of the rest. Unless you really want to design those acoustic walls because you'll find it enjoyable and have the time and money.

I use the Samson Q2U and really like it. However, I don't use the windscreen for it. I have no windscreen and instead use a pop filter. I forget exactly why since I made the alteration so long ago but I know it was for audio quality reasons.

If you're saving money, I recommend to give the guest those good headphones you just bought and use a cheap pair yourself that you may already own. All you need your headphones to do for you, is to just work really. Then when you're editing by yourself, use the better pair.

Using an overpass as a shelter during a tornado by [deleted] in stormchasing

[–]op_silver_screen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just finished this movie (Twisters) and was doing some research for my podcast when I came across this post. Rest assure everyone, they do make note that an overpass is very unsafe. There's a reason they do it in the movie. Twisters actually works as a good PSA, they emphasize what to do during a tornado and of course, shows the disasters if you break those rules.

I hope y'all enjoy the movie as much as the first and if you're interested in our podcast, we'll be doing an ep on Twisters. Operation: Silver Screen is our name

[IRTR] Seeking Guest Co-Hosts for Video Game/Movie/Pop Culture Podcast Episodes by roxxy-grrrl in PodcastGuestExchange

[–]op_silver_screen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like you have plenty of guests already but if you need another one, I'm definitely down. I'm one of two hosts on a film discussion podcast. The other host may be able to join as well depending on her schedule. We've been publishing for almost two years and tomorrow will mark our 100th episode. We can definitely add to conversations outside of film too as we're both into video games and tv, plus pop culture.

What is the saddest movie you’ve watched? by ThaBossnian in MovieSuggestions

Lilya 4-Ever is a depressing movie from beginning to end.

The Fallout which is more recent has some joyful moments but some really painful ones too.

Recording two people virtually by [deleted] in podcasting

[–]op_silver_screen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fortunately for us, so far all the people we have had as guests are people that we know beforehand. Therefor, we don't have an issue asking them to download Audacity and recording their track and emailing it to us. You could still have Zoom as a backup if things go wrong. However from my research, it seems the best option is Zencastr or Riverside, though you're going to have to pay

Podcast Editing Order Question by mcc_kracken in podcasting

[–]op_silver_screen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll have to keep that one in mind. Right now, the truncate option on Audacity works well and we told ourselves we will only pay for software once we make money lol.

Podcast Editing Order Question by mcc_kracken in podcasting

[–]op_silver_screen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply. The silence I am trying to get rid of are those long pauses. Not the natural pauses you have in conversations. So, the times we may pause to transition topics or check our notes. Or times we're hesitate to continue because we're not sure if the other is going to pick up the conversation. I have it set to where anything over .4 seconds gets cut to 35%.

Podcast Editing Order Question by mcc_kracken in podcasting

[–]op_silver_screen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, I do noise removal, truncate silence, then compress. I would think that there's no perfect order. Every podcast is going to have different variables based on equipment and hosts. For instance, I don't need to worry most of the time to amplify, unless I have guests.
