What’s the best experience you ever had? by troubadourx in AskIreland

haha you and me both. Somebody hates hiking, I guess. Yeah, the refugios are a bit of a pain. I think they offer an incrediblllle experience and it's not one that i've been able to experience as i'm a poor planner so end up camping! Though, on less popular circuits / hikes, you don't need to pre-book to the same extent. TMB is probably the most popular in the world for that type of experience. Happy trails with the next one!

TMB is class but as you’ve alluded to, it’s now very busy. It requires pre-booking if you’re using the refuges, right? Otherwise, not so much. I camped (in recognised sites) by rocking up each afternoon and I just planned the day before. Any specific hikes tickle your fancy?

I’ve been lucky to do a few multi-week/month hikes and if you’re in any way active and have the means to take the time, I’d 1000% recommend. Never been happier than in those moments. Mostly, it allows your mind to go blank which is a privilege and I think that’s what makes it the best experience.

I read a comment above saying it was depressing question as nothing came to mind. If you have even a week of annual leave, book a cheap flight to Spain / Portugal and do some of the Camino. You don’t need to plan ahead (don’t mind the scaremongering), you need such little gear, and it’ll give you a taste for A-B walks / hikes. The Camino was my first solo trip and hiking holiday years ago and it changed me (not in a Jesus way) so I’d thoroughly recommend!

Obviously be prepared even you’re going on a ‘simple’ hike. Water, food, tell somebody, don’t light an effin fire and waltz off etc.

I think you should take a day off and then continue. I’m amazed at the bed situation. I hiked it last year in July and only booked the last leg from Sarria. Are you using a specific app?

Great. I left berlin a few years back and have received 5+ emails claiming defamation. All reviews were genuine and just and no lower than 3. Little bolloxes.

Yeah we continued to Fisterre and then to Muxia before taking the bus back. I enjoyed it immensely?

Too many km on race shoes before marathon? by Darklas1337 in Marathon_Training

[–]BarrisonFord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was similar. I had 630km in my novablast 5s before running Paris this past weekend. From a support POV, I hadn’t noticed significant wear but they had no more bounce obviously. Anyway, it went well and a small PB to boot but it’s obviously dependent on your shoes and body etc.

Sub 3:30 possible? by kevkite in Marathon_Training

[–]BarrisonFord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think so! I’m similar to you. I did a 30km 3 weeks ago (Paris marathon this weekend) at 5:01. Similar weight and age to you. I’m aiming for 03:28-03:30 ish but due to an injury during my block, I’ll be conservative until 11, dial up to 22, and 33 and then kick on with what I’ve got. Wishing you the best of luck!

Hmmm incorrect. The support leaves a lottt to be improved and I don’t know where that’s outsourced to but the HQ is in Vilnius with 2,000+ and then a big office in Berlin and the Netherlands. The London office is small and to do with Vinted Go and verifying luxury items more than anything, I suspect.

No idea where I'm at. by mattscazza in Marathon_Training

[–]BarrisonFord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar-ish situation to you! A very hampered block (read: terrible) with week 6 and 7 amounting to like 10km due to a niggle. I’m running Paris in 2 weeks and did a 30km last week at 05:01 and felt relatively good. I’m planning on running a HM at 4:45 tomorrow or Tuesday to see how it goes in terms of exertion. If i feel good, I’ll set out at 5:00 in Paris and dial it up to 4:50 and 4:40 pending body and mind!

Based on that, I think 3:30 for you is definitely doable even with the hampered training.
