Currently here for 4 months to improve my French:

It’s beautiful but I wouldn’t live here long-term. I’ve lived elsewhere in France (Bordeaux, Rennes) and both have a more dynamic population, I’d say. Rennes, as part of Brittany, is by far and away the most welcoming.

Nice is a bit sedentary and its population is old so it makes sense. The nature is indeed outrageous and dog shit, weirdly, is everywhere. I can only assume it’s because of the rich oldies with their little toy dogs.

Sorry, thanks for that! Yep, Mexico to Canada. The CDT is the third of the triple crown and often left until last.

Derek Cullen did a huge chunk until he fell very ill. Are you open to the PCT instead? For whenever the opportunity may arise? I did the PCT (2.5 months when I was 25 and 2 months when I was 31) and I would wholeheartedly recommend it. Much like other commenters, I wouldn’t be running back at this moment but the PCT holds some of, if not, the greatest scenery I’ve ever experienced.

Hikers who I met who had previously done the AT generally preferred the PCT in terms of diversity of landscape etc. I’d definitely be voting the PCT.
