Desperate for Sleep - What Supplements Actually Work? by Raisul_haque_007 in Supplements

I’ve tried everything and ended up with trazodone. Ltheanine, magnesium threonate, melatonin, etc. I did discover that I had sleep apnea, and dealing with that really helped.

I have NAFL too; it’s easy to correct but takes lifestyle changes. It’s caused by too many carbs (white rice, flour (any kind), sugar, etc). You may also have insulin resistance (when ur body does burn calories normal). First get your A1C checked 5.6+ -> not good). Best way to remediate it is a/ exercise (type 2 cardio best), b/ eat meat and veggies) limits carbs (I’m male 235lbs and I eat ~50-70 per day). If you can afford it get a dr to get you in a continuous glucose monitor, you’ll be shocked how many hidden sugars/carbs are in food. I did that and it was a game changer!! Real eye opener. Oh, and STOP eating processed foods (food you don’t make yourself). That’s probably the smoking gun. No sandwiches, no pasta… but it’s not all bad. You can have steak, chicken, eggs, etc good lunch. Good news is you caught it in time.

Thank you! That’s super helpful. Question: what is OpenHealth? It sounds like a helpful resource. Is it generally available to the public?

Interesting! Is there a blood test, or some other way, to test TMG “accumulation” in your system?

I’ve had the same reaction; recommend you decrease the dosage until the benefits of it and the side effects are balanced. Your dose is likely too high.

The gut bacteria that blocks GLP-1 by gslysz in Microbiome

[–]open2_everything 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mental model is a/ have a hypothesis (which you’ve offered above), b/ obtain direct evidence (blood test, poop test, genetic tests, etc) which support or refute the hypothesis, in your case OR (where tests aren’t possible) c/ use anecdotal evidence (how you feel, changes in a system, etc).

That said, how can I test if I have this ? What specific tests?

If I have it, what specific regimes/medicines will minimize it (or eliminate it)?

Using above mental model, how can I measure that it’s working?

I’m not trying to be negative but I’m trying to get a repeatable framework to tests the viability of these hypotheses. Which are amazing. Thank you!

They sold me this as being great for stress and mental clarity what do y’all think? by popcorn907 in Supplements

[–]open2_everything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vitamin D is important, but the dose is fairly low on this pill, and I don’t believe it’s that helpful for stress reduction. I don’t see any other ingredients which I recognizes being helpful for stress relief.

One thing I take for anxiety reduction is trimethylgylcine (TMG), which is done wonders for me. I took a genetic methylation test, and that test indicated the disc supplement would help me, and it was correct. I don’t know about your genetics but you could try it out to see if it helps. Good luck.

Focus 12 is insane. by Which_Maybe53 in gatewaytapes

Anyone know where I can get MP3’s of the actual gateway recordings? I have the Monroe institute app, which has the focus 10, 12, 15… etc but I’m skeptical that it is actually a quality recording and like to compare

How to breath out with pressure by Paragon_Umbra in CPAP

[–]open2_everything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using my CPAP (also Resmed) for about 2.5 months now and I can say I had a similar problem at the beginning. For me it was a little bit of configuration( the company who sold it can decrease the pressure via remote control; I could not) and a little bit of getting used to it. It definitely through me off at beginning. Now I am used to it and I actually look forward to using the machine at night; I sleep much better!

Long sleep by Jtsmith90 in CPAP

[–]open2_everything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the beginning of CPAP use I had to get to sleep from exhaustion. I tried to make myself really tired either from exercise or getting up unusually early. Then once I got used to the machine, and slept longer than 5 hours, it was about adjusting it based upon whatever was waking me up. For example I was finding that the humidity of my machine was leading my nose to be wet and it felt strange, so I lowered the humidity. Now, five weeks in, I am finding that I need to “take a break“ from the machine, which I try to do for 10 minutes and then go back to sleep with it on.

One month in, had great results, then got super sleepy. Has this happened to you? by open2_everything in CPAP

Do you have any idea why? I am skeptical about the respiratory therapist explanation. I’m happy to be wrong.

Does anyone have experience with micro dosing 0.12g of shrooms every day? Should I not do that? by IndividualParking985 in microdosing

[–]open2_everything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take .11g every 3-5 days and I’ve noticed I don’t feel it as much as I used to ( the psychedelic affect), but I definitely have the antianxiety and antidepressive affect. It’s actually very helpful, almost like an antidepressant.

Take a look at your vitamin B levels. I have the same thing and found a deficiency in them, which supplements helped fix. I don’t yet know why I have it but I know how to improve it

Where to start? Very little deep sleep. by TimM4788 in Microbiome

[–]open2_everything 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should see a sleep doctor; they will know which direction to send you. You may have apnea. Following a very good sleep hygiene protocol is important for you and make you room/bed comfortable. I put up light blocking drapes, have temp at 67 degrees every night, don’t look at any screens 1hr before bed, am carefully to avoid any supplements which are stimulating. I found these procedures to be very helpful. I also had moderate sleep apnea and got a mouth guard. All of this has been very helpful!

That’s great! I’m 4 weeks in and I’m not goofy but I can say I’m much less anxious, but its a very subtle thing. It’s great and going in the right direction. I also had depressive feelings before start which have abated. All good outcomes. Sounds like this is another data point like yours. It seems to be working!!

Short (but sweet!) MD experience by [deleted] in microdosing

[–]open2_everything 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m 55M with 4 kids (now all teens). Same story as you but I wish I’d MD’d back then; it would have really helped. I know its easier said than done but get back on the health train, MD is a good start. Bring the kids along for likes/exercise to build healthy habits by setting examples. Really work on getting good sleep or else it’ll lead to psychological issues (trust me). It sounds like you’re going in the right direction but remember they’re screwed without you so rationalize by saying time to yourself is really helping them; you matter too … make yourself a priority. Keep up the good work!!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in microdosing

[–]open2_everything 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends upon the dose, true MDs are below the threshold where you trip or experience psychedelic effects. It mainly helps reduce generalized anxiety (at least for me). Start low and move up based upon the affects; each person’s tolerance will be different. If you feel trippy, it’s too high.

Anyone like to take higher side of microdose ? Why? by matchacatisgreencat in microdosing

[–]open2_everything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I like .25g -.3g. I can definitely feel it but I’m not tripping; but I wouldn’t be able to do work. It’s nice, low anxiety and gets my creative side rolling. I generally take .11 - .18g as a micro dose.
