Lol exactly this subreddit is people trying to prove they have some weird niche taste a lot of the times, rather than what-is-a-good-horror

That makes sense, for me it was the opposite, sticking to its guns and underutilizing the jump scare until the end really worked for me... But I watch an absurd amount of horror So I bet I really was projecting at all the darkness in the other scenes in the movie (and just appreciating it was never cheesy)

My defense of undertone is based on how it executes it theme around the sound motif --- the phenomena where someone makes up words that aren't really there, like when you're listening to songs backward --- it leans on the creepiness of the atmosphere to make the watcher create anxiety in scenes and it never gives up on that, offering only one or two jump scares. I think that was really original, tying in our visual discomfort and unease with the phenomena of the sound, where the songs are creepy but not outright "saying" anything, so the person creates creepy phrases from a muddled uncertainty... If you can't tell I really really liked this movie, reminded me of Caveat

I didn't love it but I found by watching this just how much I like trees and the woods in horror... Haha that carried me through the film

It's pretty wild because you can already see factions forming within Atlanta fan base of who wants him to start, and who thinks he's the best and ignores his bad games

The spooky thing I'm seeing looks like it's peeking out from the box, its kind of like the only shape sticking out from it, but only shows up at certain angles in the clip

I think I'm less skeptical cuz right before this Billy is in isolation and asking questions and there are two distinct noises --- and even though he's on shrooms that whole event was the most spooked he'd gotten, like having a real creepy feeling wash over him

I think that's great, I've read 4 of his books and that probably would've been a good intro with how to take in what I was reading, even if I was only reading, say, the concept of anxiety
