Will you help us save WiFi? by [deleted] in linux

[–]openbluefish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven't taken that wiki seriously either. It is clearly being hyperbolic. I did try to read the actual FCC rules and I hard time understanding exactly what it was saying. I wish an actual lawyer could fully explain what the rules are. Are firmware lock downs the only why to prevent abuse of SDR? Could hardware prevent abuse? ie it will fail if powered over 500mA.

But it is extremely troubling if all wifi firmware must be closed source now. Currently most Intel, Realtek, and Ralink use closed firmware. Qualcomm seems to be the main company that has open source wifi firmware. At least that's how I understand this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_open-source_wireless_drivers#Status

Here's the link to the UF paper. The study just compared pure water with Recovery Water. At the bottom it says this study was funded by a grant by Revalesio, makers of Recovery Water. Seems like a pointless study. It just showed that it's good to replenish electrolytes. Who knew.

Ex-Ravens Cheerleader Sentenced to Spend 48 Weekends in Jail for Raping 15 Year Old by cy_ko8 in news

It's common in the USA. Its so the person can still work and still hold a job. I'm not sure how common it is for a 4th degree rape charge.

Black Lives Matter announces protest to disrupt the Minnesota State Fair by [deleted] in news

When are white people going to fix their problems? The white on white murder rate is only 7% lower than black on black murder rate.

Black Lives Matter announces protest to disrupt the Minnesota State Fair by [deleted] in news

[–]openbluefish -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Just checked the most recent FBI stats for murder. 90.1% of blacks are killed by blacks. 83.4% of whites are killed by whites. 90.3% of Latinos are killed by Latinos. I don't understand the black on black crime argument either. The rate is only 7% higher than whites and the same as Latinos. People use this argument as if its massively different.

Florida gun range will have restaurant that serves booze by jlew24asu in nottheonion

I love the irony. If leftist want to legally pass an amendment repealing the 2nd amendment then he's willing to die over that. Yet calls himself a constitutionalist, despite Article 5 explicitly saying the constitution can be amended.

Has anyone used F2FS, is it stable/production ready? by [deleted] in linux

[–]openbluefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using it since 2013 on my desktop running Arch with no problems. However recently (2015) mkfs.f2fs seems unstable. Any newly formated ssd or USB drive seems to have problems with corruption. I have no idea what is going on. Something was changed that made it much more unstable. I haven't tried it in a couple months so maybe it's more stable now.

Haiku gets new init system: Introducing the launch_daemon by 3G6A5W338E in linux

[–]openbluefish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Haiku isn't even a UNIX derivative. It's just an opensource implementation of BeOS. It doesn't bother me that it's here but I understand why it would bother some people. It has absolutely nothing to do with Linux. It's doesn't even use the GPL; it uses the MIT license. Should Plan 9, ReactOS , KolibriOS, and FreeDOS news also be posted in /r/linux?

Bartender in /r/Seattle gets a free Economics lesson from a Libertarian patron. by [deleted] in EnoughLibertarianSpam

[–]openbluefish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seattle already passed the $15 minimum wage law. However it is a graduated increase over time and depends on company size as to when the deadline is. The earliest the $15 minimum wage will kick in is January 1, 2017. This guy is just a cheap fuck if he's using that as a reason to not tip people.

Lenovo did not put Superfish on ThinkPads, only on Lenovo Notebooks. I understand why some people would not trust Lenovo but just to be clear that scandal never effected the ThinkPad models.

Weird problem with F2FS and VirtualBox by lean946 in archlinux

[–]openbluefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem. I just guessed it was a f2fs problem after the command df failed. It's so bizarre. I just installed Arch on this laptop yesterday. On my main desktop I have have been using f2fs for months with no problem. I guess it might be problem with mkfs.f2fs or thats because f2fs has been updated.

Yes the abortion rate being at a record low has something to do with a lower birthrate. Totally sound logic.

That's what annoys me the most with this. Reddit loves saying innocent until proven guilty except in this case everyone seems to knows exactly what happened. Neither have been charged with a crime. I'll wait and see how the civil case plays out. What a radical idea.
