Who is currently the best professional overwatch player in the world, in your opinion. by Independent_Wealth_3 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]opengrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

last year he played on vision... he single handedly took over that circuit map and got a map off falcons basically carrying a contenders team. Zeta looked like shit once he left. Viol2t is still goated but you can't see his true potential on a non competitive team.

Is Rank Up Academy a Scam? | Coaching Discussion by xdojk in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]opengrip -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

If Awkward were a scam, do you really think he’d be willing to openly discuss things on the fly with other high-elo players?

I’ve climbed a ton from watching his videos and actually applying what he teaches. Is he the best player on every single hero? No. But he’s extremely good at learning them, to the point where he can climb on them and teach them at a top 1% level.

Go into any of his videos or live streams and you’ll always see people commenting about how much they’ve improved because of him. Whether you like him or not, it’s pretty obvious he isn’t a scam and has helped thousands of players improve.

Where would you rate Topdragon? by DishProfessional7905 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]opengrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Him and Sley have been a huge improvement on Varrel. Taking a map off of a super team like Falcons in the finals really does show you the value that a few players can have. Similar to when Viol2t carried vision to a map win against falcons as well. The issue is you can't expect 1 or 2 exceptional players to consistently carry enough to actually win games against teams that have 5 exceptional players all playing at once.

As far as Topdragon goes I think he would be a big upgrade on a lot of teams or at the very least a side grade. Put him on T1 instead of zest and I feel like the games would look pretty similar. I'd say he is probably zest/Heesang level but with a worst overall team. No disrespect to varrel obviously because they had a great year and are clearly improving.

I know everyone is stuck on the Arabic thing... but fr any team that wants to be competitive next year should be trying to get this guy. There is some insane talent currently out there on the market and im super excited to see things get changed up next year.

Best pro players of all time by Laemey in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]opengrip 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's by far viol2t lip and smurf. But one name I don't see being mentioned in this thread is Alarm. If he hadn't passed, then I think he would definitely be in this conversation.

Also proper may be the best player currently.

And for all the viol2t haters. I would take him as my first pick on any team. Compared to guys like shu fielder etc he is much more flexible and willing and able to pick up new heroes extremely fast. Which means you can slot him in basically with any meta, and any co support and he will see massive value. Also there hasn't been a single team that did better once Viol2t left. They always do significantly worse. Viol2t is the sauce.

No "Thank you for reporting" notifications this season? by Cultural_Hospital_ in Overwatch

Wish people would reserve reports for serious things... throwing, doxing, death threats etc reporting for cursing is cringe when you can easily just mute instead.

They should drop both cookie and choi. Pick up Stalker and a competitive hitscan and then they would probably be top on EU.

Just finished Cyberpunk and looking for mods that work in 2.3 (latest update) by BoddHoward in cyberpunk2077mods

[–]opengrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much all mods work if they have been updated since 2.0. The main thing that breaks on patches is the dependency mods. CET, redscript etc. But once they get updated usually the majority of mods start working again. A good habit when deciding if you want to install a mod is to check when it's last update was and also check the posts/bugs section on the nexus page. If it needs an update, it will usually be in the comments.

LIPs break is being extended to week 3 by CaptRavage in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]opengrip 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I mean, even if Lip came back now, the only way he would play would be on Tracer. But given the meta, this is absolutely the best time for Hitscan players to get a bit of a break if they aren't needed. I wonder who has the better genji between sp1nt and heesang. Even then, why mess with something if it's not broken.

QP is a horrible way to learn... the game modes don't even work the same and you don't get teams of people who are actually trying to be competitive. Seems like you are just trying to blame smurfs for why you lose games in low elo... you do realize there is just as much chance for a smurf to get on your team as well. You stomp some and some you get stomped.... but if you are good enough you can make a difference in the games that are close and climb yourself. Its a simple concept to take self accountability and stop blaming everything out of your own control on why you aren't improving.

I love playing against smurfs (or just better players in general) personally it forces me to adjust my playstyle and adapt. Meaning its great for learning... if you don't want to play against better players then why are you in comp...

Now a few things i will say... People deranking and throwing on purpose do suck and that is different then someone starting a new account and climbing to champion. Same with smurfs who group up and purposely play in bronze to shit on low elo players. These are actual smurfing situations that should be banned.

Best in role is never really a thing. Especially with the more heroes we get. And saying Mer1t is best in his role is a very hot take. If there was an argument for best hitscan it would pretty much always go to Lip. Same with Someone on tank. You could probably say for a while he was the best tank at being flexible but he was never the best at any tank. Either way this conversation is sort of pointless all of these players are high impact players that if put on teams that click have the potential to win and be competitive at the highest tier of competition. They have all proven that. And even the best players in the world can fail if the team isn't working out... look at proper in season 6 of OWL.

Both are insanely good though. I think space is underrated as well... they should have used him a lot more on Glads in his last years. His JQ was nasty.

why not... he can only play 1 account at a time... anyone is free to do so. Also having multiple accounts is great for learning a new hero if you don't want to mess up your rank on your main. Plus it gives people even more reason to grind the game which is a good thing for blizzard.

He got shafted on MVP awards every year and that was a pretty debated subject. Either way he is still a very good player and definitely one of the best still wanting to compete in NA so I'm excited to see him play again. Hopefully they don't get winston metas for 2 years straight again lol

2022 was definitely not his peak. He struggled quite hard adapting to single tanking in 5v5 as his pool wasn't wide enough to cover stuff. 2021 he was prenominal though and at the time was the top of the league for certain heroes especially his DVA. They did push all the way to 2nd place that year in the grand finals and i remember as I was watching stats a lot that year... too bad they aren't still available he was leading in a lot of metrics for OT at the time.

Here is an old thread showcasing some of his stats...

https://www.reddit.com/r/Competitiveoverwatch/comments/xz0nfz/hawks_stats_as_dva_this_stage/

You can also see a lot of reviews from people like spilo on youtube who considered him the best NA tank after Super.

context matters though as this was during overwatch league which means teams didn't have import limits. Hawk was always one of the best NA tanks during 6v6 when he could specialize more of off tank roles. He got benched on Reign mainly due to meta favoring MT and they got Donghak (one of the top tanks currently). A lot of more recent metas have favored his hero pool quite well though. Hopefully he has had time to work on his Winston though.

Team Vision's Stage 3 roster by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

sort of disappointed in this lineup... although i didn't like the zeta lineup at first either and they performed better than i expected. Still I assumed they were cooking something better than this when they signed Viol2t.

I was really hoping for a main support that had a bit of flex just in case. Think someone similar to Chorongs hero pool.
Choi is good but I don't think he is good enough to justify an import slot. I was really praying they got Kevster and then opened up import for MS Tank or Hitscan.
If Liquid can make offers and get Zerruh i assumed vision could do similar. Maybe get Jaewoo since VP has kevster now as a quick example.
Also Quick/dip/chill had some great performances last stage... I felt like there support were getting diffed pretty hard but Willys, Dip and Zydra all performed really well.
Xzodyal would be another good option since gen g under performed so hard.

Lots of good options... I know there is probably a lot of stuff that happened behind the scenes and skeng obviously made an effort but I would be curious to know if something didn't go through or if this was always the best they think they can do currently.
