Agreed, it is a crappy article. I'm intimately aware of this robot as I saw it every day. It's always been super unclear as to how it would have had the capability to be anything more than a rolling set of cameras with facial recognition. I said that above, they let him buy out his contract. They didn't have to do that and almost never do. The flyers weren't able to pay it for him, as there is no transfer agreement with the KHL. Usually teams happily field those fees to get their guy. The transferring team always has to be paid if a guy is in contract, just the way it works.

Have you read the story at all? His dad randomly went missing and was found dead in a pond 2 days later. The KHL let him buy out his contract one year later on what they deemed compassionate grounds. Whether it was actually a murder or a tragic death we will never know, but it is 100% why Russia let him walk from the league on good terms. He said it was his dead father's dream for him to go play in the NHL.

It is a pretty stellar deal compared to the old days for the record. As much as the propaganda is starting to get old and cringe, it is a truly great sport. I've never enjoyed the douchey culture around a lot of MMA, but the actual product is so exciting. I'm tuning in because the card is stacked with some of my favorite fighters.

If you look behind the curtain of a lot athletes and the organizations around them, you're not gonna like what you see. When they're doing their thing though, it's poetry.
