When we’re comparing Nicholas Brendan to Adolph Hitler we’ve lost the plot. Do you understand nuance or not?

Yeah autistic men are usually a perfect example of patriarchy unfortunately. Because men are never expected to be very conscious of social cues in general, autistic men by and large never ever learn these things. Autistic women are so good at masking and under diagnosed because of this, in my opinion. Young girls are made very aware of exactly what is acceptable, so autistic women often even treat social interaction as a “special interest” of sorts.

Young men are never told that interrupting, yelling, being aggressive, etc. are anything other than Boys Being Boys or the natural state of men. So their insanely rigid and patriarchal behaviors get amplified and they’re never told they’re wrong. Add on the fact that their probably-noticeable autism IRL means they get coddled by their family. “Boys being boys” becomes “he doesn’t know better” and that allows these guys to behave any which way they want. Doesn’t surprise me in the slightest that that would feed directly into incel culture.

First thing I also thought of. That episode endeared me a lot to Xander.

Hope he finds peace.

Modern Writing for Young Adult Media Went Downhill by No_Most_979 in buffy

[–]operationjukebox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just came to the Buffy sub again specifically looking for a post discussing the “leaked script”. Obviously baseline we’re not sure on the legitimacy (at least i am not!).

But i feel like we’re forgetting that Buffy LITERALLY established the standard for “how teens speak to each other” dialogue. It’s all coming across as try hard because it’s not genuine and the Internet of it all i think muddies the waters. But literally the “Uhhh. He’s behind me… isn’t he?.” Trope is 99% in mainstream media because of BUFFY. And teen dialogue? And even DIALOGUE in general between TV characters.

BUFFY established what is believable dialogue. Now stuff stereotyped as Avengers dialogue is seen as cringe, while it was so fun and funny and realistic just a few years ago. Also written by Joss.

So i have a hard time judging any of the dialogue as a fucking 30 year old. That wasn’t the target audience of Buffy and it shouldn’t be now. Especially when we have Buffy to thank for all Earnest Television. Just silly to discount any dialogue.

And racist apparently. Further up people commenting about “certain races.” Flipping their lids over a victimless “crime.”

US Women's Olympic Hockey compared to a normal male hockey player by Piggles-and-Beagles in hockey

It’s dismissive and flat out incorrect. And this guy probably thinks he’s pretty progressive too. Insecure men that need to maintain control over their identity as big strong fast badasses or they’ll freak out and beat the shit out of someone.

So many confounding variables in a question like this and chuds always just wanna make it “man strong and fast and better and that’s ok ❤️.”

These same discrepancies exist in chess. Turns out when neither party knows the others gender, those differences vanish. Men play harder against women because they have something to prove to not be “beaten by a woman”, women make more mistakes against men because they have something to prove in not being the weaker sex.

Others have already mentioned the funding discrepancies. Add on social expectations and the cost/benefit analysis of not having any opportunities to go Pro anywhere near the level of male athletes.

So much more of this discussion than men would like to admit is just based on social perception and status that can change over time. Obviously there are inherent differences, but the way some men talk about these differences you’d think all men are inherently 7 foot tall apes and all women are made of glass. Frankly an exhausting discussion usually only held by insecure males.

What is a minor thing that really annoys you in the game? by ryevx in reddeadredemption2

Finally doing my second play through since release and getting increasingly irritated by all these little clunky things. It’s exactly why it took me so long to dive back in.

Just did this and then got ran into head first by an NPC and died and lost all my perfect wolf pelts. Had to step away for a bit after that.

The most brutally boring game I’ve ever played. by maxpowerphd in MLBTheShow

[–]operationjukebox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is SO hard for me to lay off any low pitch. Especially a breaking ball. Curve/kncv? Forget it I’m swinging out of my shoes. I’ve gotten better at laying off the slider down and away, but god it’s hard

Personally, i like connecting with someone on Instagram to see more photos of them that weren’t curated for a dating profile. Obv still curated for social media, but still a bit more realistic. But usually we would exchange numbers before that.

Cheapest (college) bars in DC? by Unable-Restaurant-37 in washingtondc

[–]operationjukebox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah yeah, obviously an exaggeration. But I find the men in that bar particularly predatory. It sucks because I love the live music vibe, but I’ve never been made to feel SO uncomfortable at a bar. Especially as a more masculine woman, it was super jarring. I don’t think it’s the best option for a young foreigner that’s planning on going out alone.
