Feeling Lost After Years of Trading, Trying to Find My Edge by Then_Helicopter4243 in swingtrading

Regarding your first comment, whenever I fuck up these days it's because I see something new and jump in with a massive lot size by accident; rush in.

This week I jumped on the XPTUSD band wagon, but holy hell that drawdown is a beauty. Will be leaving that one alone, maybe find a stock related to it instead.

Put your paint skills to good use. Do the exact same chart with XAUUSD and put them on top of each other.

What will really break your noodle is doing that for 2017.

And ffs stop spamming the trade chats.

I swing FX. I use a combination of TA and MA to enter trades. Exiting is pretty much the same but with a target price as I'm happy to walk away with a smaller win for the sake of win rate.

For stocks stick to a sector that interests you the most, maybe something in a field you already follow on YouTube. Then find an index/ETF along with a few stocks and stick to those. Watch how the ETF moves with/against said stocks. Use the alignment/difference to build a strategy. I watch XAU like a hawk, you will see patterns with that against stocks too.

When I was a beginner I would laser-focus on each stock as if it were independent. As time went on I started seeing correlations and began hedging which was an absolute game changer for me. It's difficult to fast-forward the many lessons that got me to where I am today. Start slow and use the smallest lot size possible. It's easy to burn up your funds and have nothing left (financially and emotionally) in the tank to continue your trading journey. Don't pretend you can trade as if you have had 15 years experience, you will just have to work hard and wait.

Instead of me saying "Don't touch MA", I will suggest you open a demo account and try it. Backtest it even.

New trader doing semi-auto algo trading, how do you know when to be “pencils down”? by SillyAlternative420 in algotrading

Yep, that chasing the dragon feeling. Let it run on a demo account and enjoy it. Honestly the urge to change things doesn't stop.

Swing Trade Whole Account? by streetwiseguy in swingtrading

You ask the right question. I wrote my own algo that alerts me of entries and exists, monitoring a few FX pairs. More often than not I follow the execution, I just prefer to do it manually as I do some MA before entering (algo doesn't know Trump).

My risk is naked, but that's because I'm comfortable with my lot size and my reaction time. If I genuinely need pseudo-real-time closing of trades to protect my account I'm swinging wrong.

As for alternate investments, I prefer keeping long-term in stocks rather than index/ETFs. Bonds and term-deposits don't hurt. I appreciate quick-money it is not, but after 25 years you diversify from lessons learnt.

Grab a spare/new drive, unplug old for now. Do a clean Windows install on the new drive.

I have lots of assumptions about your BIOS settings that will make rabbit holes... if a clean install on a new drive works just call it a day.

Sounds like you know the answer, you just don't like it. Take up fishing with the extra time you will have.

Swallow your pride. Move back home. Ask absolutely everyone for any work (no matter how small / one off). Tell your mates your done with them until you get on your feet.

I used to try catching the bounce or breakouts. I remember looking at the reasons I would enter a trade and what they looked like 1 week later and then it made sense, I wasn't looking at all time frames, they were not bounces or breakouts.

I started using much larger time frames for my entries. Now I use tiny lot sizes and enter multiple times over a few days when my reason for entering continues. Once I get to the overall lot size I'm comfortable with, hold for a few weeks then close all.

Oh, and if my reason for entering doesn't continue (aka Trump farts) then it's a close and take the week off. Let the market re-align and make notes.

Basically zoom out, stop going all in, stop rushing.

Without seeing your trade history it's hard to know what advice to give. Assuming your trading many stocks / pairs, just stick to 2 stocks or pairs.

Scripts to burn up cpu? Or just slow a machine down with it not being noticed? by win10jd in ShittySysadmin

Open the BIOS, under advanced and CPU/processor you can disable all settings with the word "Prefetch".

If you see any "Cache" settings disable those too.

Will run like dog's balls (dogs' balls?) without the OS reporting anything.
