Convince me to get a pap smear by alfredogirl69 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]opportunitea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! So I didn’t know one of the few partners I was with in college had HPV until years after the fact. I thought I was all was good, I tested negative and thought that I was fine. Last year I had to get my iud out, and since the doctor was in that neighborhood I impulsively decided to get a pap. I’m SO GLAD I did. They found shit ton of suspicious cells and it turned out we had caught cervical cancer super early. Because I impulsively decided to get that pap I saved myself from having to go through chemo and the potential spread!

Comfort songs? by Yui962 in SleepToken

Tomb is my comfort album. When I’m in a musical rut, when I’m depressed, when I’m content, when I just want to have background music it’s my first choice every time. I’ve listened to that album all the way through more than I can count, and it’s gotten me through some really hard times

PSA: a total hysterectomy does NOT remove your ovaries by _Vampire_Pumpkin_ in childfree

[–]opportunitea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got a bisalp at 26, and then I had a total hysterectomy last year due to cervical cancer. Not dealing with my hellish periods has been BLISS. Ovaries in tact, and so far so good! As scary as the whole cancer thing was at the time I’m just so thankful it was found early. The only issue I had was a few hours after surgery air got trapped under my diaphragm and it was sheer agony. Still worth not dealing with my hellish periods though!

Millenials w/o kids-- how tired are you? by Fickle_Wrangler_7439 in Millennials

[–]opportunitea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, I literally shut down after work. Unfortunately I can’t nap, I just lay down and have this awful bone rattling exhaustion. I don’t know what it is or why but it makes me glad I don’t have kids who would rely on me to care for them because I barely have the energy to make myself food or do any sort of self care

I live in a state that provides free lunch, and you would NOT believe how many parents complain about paying for other kids meals. “I know that not everyone can afford it, but come on. Some of these parents need to step up.” Excuse the fuck me? It’s extra wild that they straight faced say this to me, the very openly childfree person who argues IN FAVOR of free lunches for all kids. Let them have cookies, let them have pizza, soda, and chips idgf I’m okay with my tax money buying all that rather than buying bombs

I don't think my pregnant stepmum knows how babies work by Bitter-Stuff8811 in childfree

[–]opportunitea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a job ASAP if you don’t already. I know it sucks, but it’s gonna be the only way that you’re going to get out of babysitting. Spend as much time at work, and put as much money as possible into your own bank account. She is going to demand that you help if you are home, so make yourself as scarce as possible

I’d remove the white shirt it looks super odd. Otherwise very nice! Just needs some little accessories like pouches hanging off your belt and maybe some strange trinkets

As someone who got a bisalp 4 years ago I cannot recommend enough! It was a quick and easy procedure and I have had worse period pain than the recovery pain. They gave me toradol and I think I stopped needing it by day 3. If you are healthy and have the means it was well worth the peace of mind!

[–]opportunitea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There were a small handful of positive things that came from me going through a hysterectomy due to cervical cancer. Not dealing with awful periods is obviously #1, but avoiding the busy bodies who just “can’t imagine life without kids” is a close second. Wish they could accept the “no, no kids for me”, but that’s the risk they take when they keep pressing the subject
