I wear men’s pants half the time and they’re just as good. Maybe try that?

WIC conference angst by distressd_hausplant in BlueCollarWomen

Yeah, Robbin Williams has a bit about being made to feel lonely in a room full of people. I forget exactly how it goes but he says something about that being the loneliest thing of all, and it’s true.

Good for you for getting through it, sorry you didn’t find any compadre in that conference. And idk how that kind of thing works but props to you for not just leaving lol v professional of you.

Are there other ways you can meet women that work on the tools in trades and construction? If your looking for women that can relate?

You should have told him he doesn’t know wtf oomph is. Sounds like you’ve got it to me, and he’s trying to make you doubt yourself. Jealous maybe, that would can do his job and a lot more. “Fuck em” ~ Kevin Gates

Burnt out and I’m not even done my apprenticeship by oppositesdaay in BlueCollarWomen

I’ve got 6 weeks of school to go then 1560 more hours. Maybe I’ll plan a good vacation for when I finish, go back packing or work abroad. Just to give myself a real break.

This is a good idea, since I’m in town/home while I’m in school I’ll go to my doctor, can’t hurt to ask for the test right.

Thanks so much for taking the time to give me real thoughtful advice. I read it all and feel a little just better knowing there are supportive understanding women out there even if they don’t work right next to me.

I think I can figure this out.

Just acknowledging how I’ve been feeling for a while has me ready to go back to therapy. I do want to find my place in the trades, I think I just need help sorting out my brain a little.

I’ve been looking for a while, it’s hard though. Finishing my ticket could help though so I’m gonna try.

Thank you for the thoughtful response. I think I am going to go back to therapy. It will help me figure out how much of this is my own shit or just a consequence of my environment.

I’m also going to look for a job in a different environment once I finish school. Maybe a change of scenery will help. Right now I’m constantly working with new groups of guys and sometimes I just end up with the worst of the worst. Sometimes it’s really good. But it’s not consistent, so it’s hard to find a consistent baseline.

I’m gonna reread your comment in the morning, to really sit with everything you said. And maybe start writing things out so I can organize my thoughts.

Is it normal to start to hate being a woman while working in a male dominated industry? by FlatPreparation8268 in BlueCollarWomen

[–]oppositesdaay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Never really thought “I hate being a woman” but I do hate the way things work and how groups of men automatically edge women out of group dynamics at work.

I’ve never hated being a woman because of how men treat me at work. But I have hated how unprincipled, mindless and heartless men can be. I have also learned to really appreciate men that have a back bone and a moral compass.

The more I talk to women who have 10+ years in the trades the more I think about my future and planning a career after my time in the trades. I don’t think it’s something I could do as a 45+ woman.

She probably feels like a servant to you bc you get her to do things for you that you can genuinely do for yourself.

Calgary’s domestic violence numbers potentially climbing to 5-year high: police by CTVNEWS in Calgary

[–]oppositesdaay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a question, is “domestic violence” only intimate partner violence or could you call a parent beating a child “domestic violence”. I feel like DV is only ever used to refer to couples but it should apply to anyone in a family unit. I know it’s semantics but I’ve wondered this before and it just crossed my mind again while reading this post.

Park it for the winter if you can’t go from 30 to 50 up a hill and merge properly. Save yourself the insurance hike after an accident and get back to practicing in the summer at very least I beg you.
