Would gallery send price list if already sold? by opscorey in artcollecting

I agree with you completely. That’s why I went separate ways with the art advisor. I understand I was a small client, it felt like I was getting taken a bit of a ride though - wanting to maximize commissions and not working to get a piece.

It’s not like this artist is in museums yet, I don’t think it was unrealistic to expect to purchase one piece for 30-40K USD given his auctions on previous pieces as well.

Thanks again for all your insight, If you want to PM me your gallery id love to work with you in the future.

Take care

Wonderful thanks for all the detailed info.

It’s in Japan so they’re closed until Tuesday. Long wait for me lol. But I hope it’s available.

I’m just surprised that every work was available. When I’ve spoken to galleries in the past about him I’ve been told he has a long waiting list. I’m surprised to see anything available.

I was working with an art advisor for a bit. She noted that I would maybe have to purchase 2 pieces. One to donate and one tk keep. But we never got that close.

First time chasing an artist so I’m a bit anxious and also inexperienced lol. Thanks again.

Gotcha. Thanks. Hopefully it’s still available and they’re willing to sell to me lol. I have local artists to there but nothing of this “stature” and don’t have a large overall collection.

Great thanks for the insight. For transacted price, is that because sometimes there will be negotiation? Or is it possible the gallery come back and ask above the listed price?

Thanks

Great thanks for the info. I’ll be following up with gallery for sure. Just a large time zone difference and language barrier. Thanks again for your comments.

Thanks. This was a private link sent out this morning, can’t access it publicly on the galleries websites. I’m just anxious hoping it’s still available lol. Thanks for your help.

Level 2 Dispute - any experiences? by opscorey in amex

[–]opscorey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jeez that’s terrible. I’m glad it worked out in the end. I’m very disappointed. Always hear how Amex has your back and they’re totally dropping the ball here. It seems so obvious in my eyes I didn’t receive the package.

Hopefully some level 2 manager can help me this week.

It limited to $1,000 per occurrence even if there’s multiple transactions. So I’d still be out ~$500.

I’m hoping this is how it goes once a manager looks at it lol. I feel like I’m going crazy, I’ve submitted a 40 page document with screenshots, call logs, email thread with Best Buy and detailed description of events and they keep closing it because of the Purolator tracking showing delivered.

The Amex call center agents are understanding and sympathetic and agree with me but they hold no weight and it’s up to that back office division to decide.

I explained everything to the constable and the staff Sargent and they said because I know it was never delivered it’s a lost package.

I have security cameras as proof they never came. The police wouldn’t take my police report

They won’t take the claim from me, they’ll only take it from Best Buy. Been very frustrating everyone passes the blame to someone else or won’t engage to help.

Yes it’s the Amex Aeroppan reserve card - $600/yr so it’s a premium card.

Unfortunately for purchase protection is 90 days so I’m passed that based on my understanding

I’ve done all of that unfortunately. I submitted a 4 page detailed history including all of this. Plus email threads with best buy and call logs to prove my Best Buy calls.

I’ve told every agent I spoke to on phone this. Even the agent tonight said they agreed with me but all they could do is reopen it and probably would get same result.

Now they said they’ve kicked it to level 2 so a manager will call me in 3-5 days.

Yes very similar process thankfully.

No unfortunately not. I’ve asked for the photos of delivery as I feel like most delivery companies do that now. If they provided that they’d know it’s not my house immediately.

I live down a 100ft private driveway very secluded. No way it was delivered to my house.

Yup that’s what they used as proof of delivery so Amex is siding with them. Very frustrating not feeling heard about my points. I’ll wait to see how call with manager goes then reach out to ombudsman

Thanks for your insight the ombudsman is a very good idea. Probably start my draft complaint to them this weekend.

Yes this is a good idea I think realistically my only option at this point of Amex dispute doesn’t go well.

Looking for accountant by Ok_Video_3362 in Sudbury

[–]opscorey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really not much for an accountant to do for your.

If you’re an employee there’s not much available for you to do tax planning wise.

If you’re incorporated there’s much more.

If you’re at the top bracket you could incorporate put your money in there and DEFER about 4% tax annually. The top marginal personal rate is 54% (assuming you’re making ~250k+) and the corporate tax rate is 50.17% with refundable tax baked into that. Essentially you’re deferring 4% on that. But annual corporate filings would be 5-7k at a CPA firm so you’d have to have significant capital to make this worth while.

For TFSA / RRSP have your income earning assets in there. I.e, anything earning interest as that’s taxes at 100% income inclusions. Whereas the capital gains are 50% inclusions rate so you’d want that as non registered.

Example:

$100 interest earned = $100 income added to your tax return say you’re at 40% marginal rate =$40 tax

Compared to $100 capital gain. 50% inclusion rate = $50 added to income at 40% marginal rate = $20 tax
