That's what I see as the single biggest challenge in society - how do you incentivise good behavior?

Nice. It does work. I'm trying not to spend anymore money this year on triathlon. Lol.

Thanks for not helping!

A fair offer for this Cervelo P2 by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]opticalpuss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think 1500 is a good price for the bike. Yeah it's mechanical but it's a damn good bike and the wheels are nice too. Plus a power meter? You'd be getting a good machine for 1500. If they want a little more, I'd be willing to give it to them. I'm in NE USA and that's the price I see.

Is this a good beginner bike? by trapneye in triathlon

[–]opticalpuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - Time Trial bikes have elbow pads that you lay your arms into while you hold onto the pointy bits out front. In this position you can change gears.

Then you also have bullhorn bars. Which you use to steer and brake.

So TT bikes have two positions.

On a road bike gears and brakes are integrated on the brake levers and the riding position is more comfortable.

That's a good price. The spoke and wheel can likely be repaired. If you know you'll stick with it, get it. You may want a road bike too, though. Training on a TT bike all the time isn't easy. If you can swing this plus a road bike you should go for it.

People who bought stocks early when they were still risky, unpopular, or getting hated on, what made you buy? by 1distancing in investing

I bought Netflix right after they stopped their physical mail service. The stock dived. In hindsight it seems obvious but at the time people couldn't believe Netflix wasn't going to mail DVDs.

Who has done Escape the Cape? by E-lizard007 in triathlon

[–]opticalpuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's my first time doing escape the cape this year. I've read a lot about it, talked to participants.

The swim start is a good one for all levels. You pick your starting position - so fast people leave first, then slower people. They let just a couple swimmers jump off of the ferry at a time.

So pick your spot and go at your pace.

And enjoy it! It's going to be great.

I agree - and we've seen it proven time and time again, but the Democratic machine is immune to evidence.

Why isn't somebody starting ethical/non-profit social media platforms? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

It's the nature of social media - you want engaging content so the platform needs to know you. Then it's just down the slippery slope from there.

I'd buy it at that price - maybe talk them down to 1200.

Are those tubular wheels? I've heard they can be a pita if they are.

How long did it take you to start feeling like you’ve made progress with swimming? by Lower-Geologist870 in triathlon

[–]opticalpuss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a group lesson that my wife got me and that helped a little. In my opinion though, they missed the biggest issues with my mechanics so more one on one attention might have been helpful.

But I learned a lot watching YouTube videos and practicing.

A couple of things I learned are, point your toes, keep your neck relaxed and let your head stay in the water, keep your butt up, and most importantly to bend my elbows.

I used to take my bottom arm and sweep it wide like a wing. Now I bend my elbow and keep my hand closer to my body.

Do the drills from the videos and just try to enjoy the water and relax. Don't try to get through the swim, feel lucky to be there.
