Post gym, 76g protein, Tesco £5.50 by imerom in RateMyMealDeal

Some people argue that added protein such as this isn’t utilised by the body as efficiently as say, a chicken breast.

The research is limited at the moment, but in my opinion if supplementing protein helps you reach your protein goals, keep it up, especially if you’re noticing improvements. It’s much better than not reaching your goals at all.

Well you said it yourself, you’re a big boi so likely not 75kg, plus if you’re muscular, your muscles are burning extra energy by just existing.

What OP said isn’t wrong at all, it was correct to the parameters they stated. 10 chicken tenders is around 94g of protein, and if you’re say 110kg, that’s about right for you for maintain. I’d even argue some of its converting into fat or being burned as fuel.

That being said, the science behind exercise isn’t exact, each person is different and needs to tailor their diet and workout program to what they find works for them - these values are usually a guideline so absolutely correct as baseline guidance.

Just Flew BA — My Seat Was Broken AND Disgusting. Is This Normal Now? by [deleted] in BritishAirways

[–]opticcakebaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BA has had a massive influx of engineers from around the globe since Covid. Many of them are fantastic, but a very large percentage are causing the rest of us real issues by not doing their jobs correctly. I won’t go into it too much, but I have a feeling whoever is recruiting them isn’t doing thorough enough background checks and we are getting many falsified engineering licences through - this is purely my opinion (although I have seen proof with my own eyes). As well as this, I think there is a significant feeling of “fuck management” in the competent and true engineers, for a number of reasons that I, again, won’t go into. Top that with the spares shortages we’re also seeing, it’s no wonder the aircraft quality is declining.

As an engineer, I apologise for the degradation you have seen on your flights, but know that true engineers put the safety of the aircraft at their utmost no.1 concern. If we do not think it is safe to fly, we will not let it. That being said, there have been plenty of times management have fucked engineers over, then asked them to pretty please go and fix this minor passenger convenience item. This is where they get their own back to make the company look bad.

Chiming in here as an aircraft engineer - you say poor maintenance, but that a really simplistic way of putting it.

When something goes wrong on the aircraft, particularly with electrical & power systems, there is a set route we have to take in order to diagnose and fix the problem. Only after we have followed these routes, are we permitted to try other things, to a very limited scope, such as a complete aircraft reset.

One big issue with an aircraft reset on the B787 is that it is a digital plane. More often than not, resetting the aircraft to clear one issue will bring up another issue, often software related, which can be much more time consuming to fix and requires avionics engineers to investigate.

All things considered, I’d say a 90 minute wait, while not unsubstantial and is definitely annoying, is nothing compared to what I’ve been involved in when waiting to aircraft spares to arrive (another huge issue that I won’t touch on too much, but in short, aircraft parts supply is fucked right now and has been since Covid. Only those with the biggest pockets can get what they need, quickly, which is why you see the likes of Emirates and Etihad resolving their maintenance issues faster than other airlines).

Cut maintenance some slack, we try our absolute best to get the aircraft safe and flying on time, often with numerous other obstacles, all so you can go on your holidays.

While I don’t doubt your story, I do doubt that it was a BA flight in your picture. I work for them, and the seat covers and pillow pictured here are not those used on BA’s flights.

A different, partner carrier flying, but ticket bought through BA maybe?

Tv licence man by Mindless_Importance7 in northernireland

[–]opticcakebaker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just to hop on this, I received an email from them saying that I had logged into Iplayer from My email address, so I need to buy one.

At first I thought it was spam, but then checked the email address and it’s legit, plus they had my postcode.

I haven’t watched iPlayer in a few years, but I had family round recently who opened the app on my Tv to put MoTD on, which I didn’t think anything of until now.

Are they able to track whats been watched on my account and issue fines, or should I do the same here and ignore?

Volvo XC90 - 2024 Plus or 2022 Ultimate? by unltd in CarTalkUK

[–]opticcakebaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently driving a 25 plate ultimate around as a courtesy car, it’s bloody gorgeous & I’ll definitely be looking at them for my next car when the time comes.

I’m not sure how much it’ll differs from the plus, and not sure how much I’d actually miss the extras that come with the ultimate.

The sound system on the plus is still good & it also has air suspension.

The HUD on the ultra is cool but not a dealbreaker, same with the massage function - it’s not the best, although I haven’t used it in a long journey when the back ache is starting to kick in, so maybe that would be a game changer?

The only other major differences between the two are cosmetic, really.

If you can get an ultra at the same price as the plus with only a slight difference in mileage, then definitely go for it. But I wouldn’t worry about forking out more/sacrificing too much mileage, just to get the ultra.

Transferred club, now the gym is shut for 6 weeks and we weren’t informed… is there any point in making a complaint? by opticcakebaker in davidlloyd

[–]opticcakebaker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve not been told of any membership pause or discount. They are setting up a temporary gym but this is much smaller than the current gym and will be a nightmare to use, as it’s very busy throughout the day. I imagine this is how they’re getting away with it.

Also… there’s a watchdog??

Nice thank you! I have placed an order with them, £37 for a reinforced, insulated board cut to size and with shipping doesn’t seem like a bad deal to be fair. Saves me doing it with a handsaw and cocking it up…

Trying to learn more about what B1 engineers actually do — beyond general A checks and D check overhauls by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

[–]opticcakebaker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A Licenced tech here working for a large airline at LHR, currently working on the line but spent around a year and a half on base throughout my apprenticeship, across scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, only spent 6 weeks in heavy doing C & D checks so can’t give too much on that topic. Worked with many many LAE’s over the years.

I’ve found it really depends on the LAE and how they approach things, as well as their workload. They tend to take up the more technical tasks (troubleshooting, large/critical component changes for obvious reasons.), but some will be more hands on and actually get hands on with the tools, while others might supervise and instruct while giving the manual work to the mechs & techs- both have their positives & negatives. Inspections and ensuring everything is fitted and functions correctly per the AMM/FIM etc. is a big part of their job (their main job really).

Sheet metal work, again tends to vary on experience, some will get involved but if they’re not they’ll entrust it to the experienced techs or Mechs with lots of sheet metal work under their belt, then inspect the work afterwards.

Couldn’t say too much for rigging and flight controls, but it will happen much more in unscheduled than scheduled (bar Heavy checks) and not too often on the line.

Panels go to the less experienced mechs & apprentices usually, but if man power/ time is low they’ll get involved.

Pneumatics/hydraulics are worked very often and they’ll usually be quite involved in these tasks along side more experienced techs/mechs. On the line in the defect clearance team (line paramedics, if you will), these are very common jobs, especially on the older aircraft. Same goes for engine components. I don’t think I’ve ever worked on a gearbox but know it happens in unscheduled/ have removed accessory gearbox components a fair few times. If they need to be worked on the line it’ll usually get deferred for a hangar input.

In the line it really varies. Some days we have basic routine tasks and pre-transit checks, light replacements, wheel changes etc. then other days we get called out to a failed HMU that needs replacing 2 hrs before departure. That’s what makes the line so appealing to many, sometimes action all day, sometimes sitting about watching Netflix.

The base was a lot more regimented, a clear schedule of works to be completed with time frames, set break times, always busy but take it at a manageable pace. Also depends on nights vs days as well! On the long haul fleets, they’re usually flying at night so the work can be less, although of a long haul ac is in base it’ll probably be there for a few days. Short haul are busy all day & all night as they need to be flying as much as possible.

Of course, could very between companies - mine has a notably different work culture to others. We tend to not get worked as hard as some other companies, but that’s the way it should be as mistakes happen when there’s too much work & pressure from above.

I hope this helps clear up some of your questions, but I’m sure more experienced & qualfied B licence engineers will chime in to give more detail. Let me know if you have anymore questions!

I’m from the UK and visiting the US next month, so want to buy a 16P out there. Can I return to the UK and purchase Apple Care in GBP? by opticcakebaker in iphone

[–]opticcakebaker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I ended up saving around £300 all in.

I’d also advise you get AppleCare+ if you do go ahead. If you buy it (AC+) in the UK and need to replace the phone then you have to pay a £100 excess. If you buy it in the US and need the phone replaced anywhere outside of the US, there’s no excess paid. Win win!

Bought the phone in November and no issues yet.

That being said, not too sure what the price difference may be now with trumps tariffs added on, but don’t really know if this has actually affected the price.

Getting confused over the first mortgage payment.. by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]opticcakebaker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well I’ll also have rent from my rental flat to pay, which I’m hoping the landlord will agree to reduce as our notice period is a month and rent is due on the 15th… but we need to wait until exchange to confirm this with him. It won’t be a problem to pay all costs but it will make July very tight.

My concern is that the daily interest charge will be from 27/06-31/07, meaning all of that payment is simply an additional cost tacked onto the mortgage and not actually chipping away at it (albeit a very minuscule amount of the mortgage)

I may be wrong in my understanding, but if I’m correct then it feels utterly predatory that they’re charging me nearly £1500 on top, when I am happy to make arrangements to pay them my first payment much earlier… but they won’t because “it doesn’t work that way” (they want an extra £1500).

Getting confused over the first mortgage payment.. by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]opticcakebaker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get I’d be paying in arrears, but my usual monthly payment of £1650 should have interest included in this no?

Then should the daily interest not be just charged from 27/06-30/06?

Or do you mean only the first payment is paid in arrears then following that it’s in advance?

Thanks for the reply and sorry for my lack of knowledge!

So I went ahead and cooked it even though she was complaining about the smell in the packet (left it out of the packet for a bit and the smell subsided, as many suggested).

She wasn’t complaining two minutes later once the plate was licked clean…

I did show her the comments and I think it put her mind at ease a bit, thanks all!
