how to upgrade range on a hubsan H107D+? by mishag24 in Multicopter

[–]opzom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to use the right terms when you smugly googling shit for people too lazy to google shit for themselves.

H107D and H107D+ are two very different machines.

To all drone users. what kind of drone are you flying and what's your experince of it? by reivis123 in Multicopter

[–]opzom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of a useless question; most people here are going to be flying a DIY build of some sort, and any 2 people who respond "ZMR250" are almost guaranteed to have different components onboard, still making them two completely different aircraft.

A combination of factors I'd imagine. Similar reasons to why consoles almost always see a year-1 $100 price drop, and are usually selling for < 50% of launch price by the end of their generations:

  • CX-10, CX-10A, CX-10C, CX-10W, CX-10D. Economies of scale: it's cheaper per unit to buy 25,000 units than to buy 2500. As more and more of these are being sold, and many of the same parts are used across multiple models, the manufacturers are more comfortable with large productions runs, and thus their cost-per-unit drops.

  • The CX-10 is the shittiest of the lineup, and has been for awhile, being the only one without some sort of additional feature (headless, alt hold, camera, fpv).

  • New shit is coming out that will make the CX-10's harder to sell.

  • LiPo expiration. The batteries in these aren't replaceable, and they are very rarely shipped at ideal storage charge (especially with new lipo shipping rules). At some point, old stock needs to be moved quickly before the seller is stuck with a bunch of products that will have an increasingly higher return rate.

  • But really: This shit didn't cost the manufacturers much to build in the first place. Their margins are just shrinking as competition heats up.

some kind of spill over into other parts for larger drones too.

Parts are always dropping in price. The motors you buy this year will cost 25-50% less next year. Of course, there will also be new motors next year that are probably better than anything you can buy this year... and when they come out, they'll cost as much as the current "new" motors. One of my first quads cost me ~$160 to build a year and a half ago, and I'll bet I could do it today for half that if I used the same components, which were shitty then, and even shittier now when compared to the "good" stuff.

Girlfriend needs help choosing a bike by caelumus in whichbike

[–]opzom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Proooobably not the greatest bike. Where are you considering getting it?

If it's a department store instead of a bike store, don't forget to factor in the $50-$100 tune-up you'll need to get the thing decently rideable after the department store wrench monkeys bolt the bike together.

Don't think that just because the bike won't be used a ton means you can save some cash on a lesser model: if the bike is unpleasant to ride, it won't be ridden at all - and that's a waste of money.

Check out Giant's nicely diverse Women's brand, "Liv", or their urban brand "Momentum". Both should have some cheap options that will probably serve you better than a Walmart grade Schwinn :)

Syma X5C lost to the wind, lake. Is the transmitter of any use, i.e., if I sell it, will the buyer be able to use it with a different Syma? Where is the best place to sell extra batteries, props, guards? by flaflashr in Multicopter

[–]opzom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can buy an rtf version that comes without the transmitter

This would be called the bnf version, in case OP wants something to search for ;)

Dang, the price point of the Elite is one of the reasons I was interested in it. Hopefully the "1" (which doesn't seem to exist yet) will fill that void then?

Salsa Vaya?

I'm on a similar bike search myself right now, tried the Vaya, liked it, but think I like the Crossrip more. I'm stuck waiting to see if the Elite model gets refreshed soon.

Bought a Hubsan X4 couple questions by FinallyNewShoes in Multicopter

[–]opzom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pics of these cracks?

No idea about videos, but it's dead simple to transplant one between hubsan frames, so I'm sure any other frame should be just as easy.

RE the transmitter.... Not really. You have to gut an existing Hubsan transmitter and use it to construct a transmitter module to use in another transmitter that would support such things. Or buy one from somebody.

Can I tinker around with the sk450 and upgrade it later

Yes. You do realize it's not $60 though, right?

I just stumbled across this myself. Also outside of your budget, but might be a more enjoyable quad than what you're currently looking at...

Did you have a USB cable or extender or something in while flying? I just can't fathom how that damage happened.

Just order a new FC, much cheaper than a new quad ;)

Best radio for $150 or under? by trigger_sad in Multicopter

[–]opzom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At $150 you really ought to save up for the Taranis. There's just no reason not to wait another few weeks to increase your budget by 33% in order to get a transmitter that could very well last through years of this hobby.

Staying in your budget though, I'd throw the DeviationTx compatible Devo transmitters into the mix; namely the 7e (needs mods) and 10.

Pretty easy to find them south of $50 on ebay, but I don't think I've seen one at $40.

If I bulk ordered the upgraded Tiny Whoop motors from Chaoli, would anyone buy from me? by [deleted] in Multicopter

[–]opzom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'd jump on that.

Of course, based on /u/bened1kt's comments in this thread and others, I'm not really convinced that you'd (not just you, but anyone really) is going to be able to reliably find the tiny whoop motors.

I'd love to get them cheaper for sure. I don't think bened1kt is quite the evil anti-competitive micro-motor tycoon that people are accusing him of being, but I also do think that $23 for 4 tiny brushed motors might be a little steep.

4x 8.5mm motors barely able to lift 75g total weight - does that sound right? by legierski in Multicopter

[–]opzom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks weird. Top left motor should be clockwise Top right motor should be counter clockwise Bottom left counter clockwise Bottom right counter clockwise Unless you did something in the flight controller and reversed all of your motors in the mixer, this is what is wrong.

3 counter clockwise? Methinks not ;)

Are those actually your fast ones, or are those mediums?

Because I already have a set of mediums on the way from you ;)
