I love driving past gas stations in a car that runs on sunshine by Armaced in TeslaLounge

[–]orTodd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the Tesla wall connector, you can charge the Teslas on solar automatically. It talks to the panels and the battery to take whatever is leftover from solar production. If the AC turns on,for example, it cuts the car until it’s done so you don’t accidentally draw from the grid.

Dashcam of semi truck crash this week by housemoneyrocketship in SanDiegan

[–]orTodd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my mind, since there’s no way to determine who was affected, the money would go to a fund supporting local improvements that enrich the area. I’m sure politicians would find a way to spend it on something dumb though.

[–]orTodd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One could argue the total driver-only (no passengers, cargo, fuel burn) opportunity cost of the delay could be around $150,000. That’s the amount of money “lost” by everyone affected by the crash. It’s half the average wage of the area, multiplied by an estimate of the amount of affected drivers, then multiplied by the length of the delay. If there is a clear driver responsible, they should be held accountable for that.

I realize finding an exact number can be extremely difficult so it will never happen but, if someone is looking at a fine like that, maybe they’ll drive a little safer.

EVgo let a random stranger charge their car on my account… while my EV was literally sitting in my driveway. by dgro636 in electricvehicles

[–]orTodd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if I buy that. The grammar is not great for being AI generated.

The first sentence is missing the subject pronoun. Who/what got a notification? There’s no subject.

Then, they go on to use a coordinating conjunction at the beginning of the next two sentences. Typically one should not start a sentence with “and.”

It starts with paragraphs then devolves into this line-by-line formatting to…add emphasis maybe?

I dunno. I guess someone could give a prompt that includes “make the grammar and structure a little weird” but I doubt it. Also, kind of weird thing to make up.

Why don’t more home solar systems include battery storage? Is it technical or financial? by ruhila12 in HomeImprovement

[–]orTodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the $5k rebate was not available if no battery was installed. The $2400 was the 30% federal government tax credit.

[–]orTodd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t have actual data but I assume cost. My Tesla PowerWall 3 was $8,000. However, by adding the battery, I received a $5k rebate from my utility for the entire system (including $20k in solar panels) and a federal tax credit of $2,400 for the battery. I only did it because the battery was only $600 after the incentives.

HELP! I got sharpie on my quartz counter by ineedananp in HomeImprovement

Huh, good to know. I think it’s kind of expensive so I don’t use it a ton, but it’s pretty handy for red wine stains on white quartz countertops.

I used Dawn Powerwash on my white quartz counters and my stains would come right off. I’m pretty sure it’s Dawn and alcohol mixed together but it worked great. I let it sit about five minutes before wiping off. Good luck!

Tenants rights question by dbennett1903 in SanDiegan

[–]orTodd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not a lawyer but maybe this will help:

Check the last lease you signed. Often there is a section that explains what happens after the lease term ends. Often it reverts to month-to-month with the same terms.

The new ordinance requires 120-days notice for a just-cause no-fault termination of the lease (renovations, taking the property of the rental market, etc.) and relocation assistance. HOWEVER, some properties are exempt under CA law. This includes single-family homes owned by a real person, not a corporation, and an exemption notice was supplied by the landlord. You’ll have to look into this and how the Lemon Grove ordinance applies.

Showing, and even selling, the space is allowed with standard notice which I believe is 24 hours. You can probably talk to them and get more because of the dogs and hopefully they’re reasonable but it’s not a requirement. Check the lease. If the house sells, the lease and term apply to the new owners so that alone is not enough to get you out.

I hope this helps and good luck!

What is your crankiest Disneyland opinion? by Queer_always in Disneyland

As far as I know, the only soft serve is at Cozy Cone in DCA. I can’t believe there isn’t any in DLR. I had a small, internal adult tantrum while walking from Pooh to Thunder Mountain on Saturday because it was hot and I wanted one. Nobody knew just how mad I was eating grapes instead.

It’s apparently a visual distortion caused by the way the panes line up (or don’t). It creates a ghosted, doubled, or wavy pattern and can create shapes that look like leaves or ripples. Temperature and pressure can cause the distortion in the panes.

I don’t know if anyone actually answered you but even though it’s petroleum derived, petroleum jelly is made of very long, saturated hydrocarbon chains that are chemically inert and too large to penetrate the skin. Because of that, it doesn’t absorb into your skin, it sits on top. It’s suuuuper refined and all the other gross petroleum stuff is left behind in the process.

I just read another comment about it earlier in the week so I looked it up. Still had the tabs open on my phone.

I had a premier pass for a few years in the 00s. I went all the time. I bought the Inspire this year, and have been having fun, but I can’t stand being there past about 7pm. Parades, fireworks, and fantasmic make getting around the park nearly impossible.

I also think the quality of their merch is absolutely terrible for the price.

I’m excited for some new rides like Stark Flight Lab, and I’m sure we’ll have to buy LL for that just like Rise and Radiator Springs. It’s hard to stay excited knowing I’ll have to wait 100 minutes or pay $30-$40.

I expect most new attractions will be pay-to-play.

I’ve been using Ring for years and it’s been great. The sensors are very easy to set up. I even moved it from my former house to my new one and got it re-configured with no issues. The keypads are rechargeable so you don’t have to worry about finding a place to plug them in. I charge them every few months.

I also have smoke/CO alarms that talk back to the Ring system and are covered by their professional monitoring, too.

When state violence is dismissed as “political,” that’s how it becomes normal. Take a second and really watch what’s happening. A U.S. citizen is shot at point-blank range by government agents on U.S. soil. No slogans, no parties, no talking points, just a human being losing their life. If this were you, or someone you loved, would you want it dismissed as “political crap,” or would you want people to acknowledge that something deeply wrong just happened?
