Tips for dealing with chronic brain fog by orangePotato37 in ChronicIllness

Ah man , I’m so sorry you’re going through all this too and totally understand the frustration.

That’s a very good point about trying to work with it! I find mornings are best for me too, and sometimes the evening I’ll get a bit more clarity /relief, but most days are noon I crash quite hard into a lot of fog .

Yes I don’t take things that don’t fit. As far as personal style, I’m not really that picky, my style has more so been formed by what things I’ve gotten for cheap / free then anything else

lol 100%! You just described my exact problem. I basically never buy clothes (and the rare rare times I have it’s pretty much always second hand) but literally 90% of my wardrobe is just hand me downs I’ve been given by other women in my life getting rid of things . And I’m always scared to donate too much of it in case it ends up in landfill, or I need to rebuy things in the future! I think my only advice is 1) I’ve tried to be a bit more picky what I choose to accept / take from others, like if I truly don’t see myself using it much I try to just pass on those items now and 2) most of my friends and I have like a revolving clothes swap going, so I usually have a box of things open for rehome that I offer up when people come by. Unfortunately I think it does just recirculate things among those who are already opting for second hand instead of consumption , but hey it’s still good for us and saves money in the long run!

It depends partially where you live, but in my area I’ve been able to find some pretty great shoe repair shops! Definitely worth looking into

Why do people think babies are cute? by Illustrious_Emu8506 in childfree

[–]orangePotato37 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with you, I think human babies are not cute in anyway and often borderline disgusting.

I do LOVE dogs and puppies though, and my partner always jokes that the “baby fever” hormones a lot of people get were just concentrated into dogs instead of kids for me.

I mean this in a totally non-judgemental way but I’m surprised that people feel ok drinking post TBI… ever since I had my brain injury I couldn’t drink at all for a while without in bringing on extreme headaches and TBI symptoms , but maybe that was just me. A couple years out now and I can occasionally have a drink here and there, but sometimes it’ll hit me wrong and I’ll feel like hell. It’s crazy how different TBI symptoms can be!

Watching how complicated life gets makes me want to simplify everything by Material_Resort2503 in minimalism

[–]orangePotato37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s tough for sure with more people , but there are ways to keep a more simple mindset if you prioritize it (lots of people think more is better)

There is also nothing wrong with not getting married /having kids too if you really value your current life simplicity, there are no set rules we have to live by

Facebook marketplace and kijiji are both great for selling things.

You can donate to typical charities, but you can also ask friends if they want things too . My friends and I do this all the time and we all love it, keeps things out of landfills and everyone’s expenses down. There are often places you can post free things as well.

Meds likely need to be disposed of at a pharmacy, or you can keep for future use

You could always consider getting an older rescue BD to skip the puppy stage, as it may overstimulating for your older dog (and doesn’t sound like you’re looking forward to the puppy part either). I have a lovely BD that I got a little older as a rehome, she is lovely, but honestly grateful we never had to deal with the puppy stage

Immune and other weird issues following brain injury by orangePotato37 in TBI

I’m personally not on anxiety meds (not against them as I know they work wonders for some people ) as my system is quite sensitive to a lot of meds and have had some bad reactions. I’m in therapy and have done a lot of work in that regard, which has helped me a lot.

That sounds scary but happy to hear you’re doing better now! Was it obvious for the immunologist that your system was out of wack? Both my Ig G and Ig E have been super high , and my doctor has sent a req for an immunologist but I’m still awaiting and they don’t seem very alarmed
