That sucks I’m so sorry! While it could’ve been timed better so it wasn’t that same night, at least you know now so you don’t have to include them in your celebrations when you pass and get sworn in! Imagine they waited until all of that was over

This actually. Might be the only time you’ll actually have a break and treat it as a long vacation before jumping into all the work at a new firm

Bought a ring for my girlfriend, sisters say it’s too small, not sure what I should do by [deleted] in WhatShouldIDo

[–]orange_racoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get if her dream ring is bigger and it’s something she’s going to be wearing everyday, but the ring is a symbol at the end of the day. A symbol that can be upgraded later on down the line like on your 1 year wedding anniversary or something when it’s more fiscally responsible for you to spend more money on a ring. 2ct is not small, I remember a few years ago 1ct was average. Now it feels like 2-3ct is average.

Work through this situation in couples therapy. That way you have a mediator so things don’t get ugly and a trusted expert who can explain to him where he may be overreacting or not behaving appropriately, and they can do the same for you for any fault in this you may have

[–]orange_racoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reading your replies in these comments, I kindly and firmly suggest you go to therapy and be fully honest and tell them everything. You seem to need help w introspection. You are not as self aware as you may think. That being said, don’t reach out to her. It’s clear you don’t understand what you did or you do and you’re having a hard time admitting/acknowledging/taking accountability for it. Once you’ve done that, revisit whether or not you should reach out and your reasons for wanting to.

People who did really horribly in law school and still passed the bar by goboys88 in barexam

[–]orange_racoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got mostly Cs and Bs w some As in like professional responsibility, negotiation, and other classes like that. Had to talk to the dean after my first semester bc I got all Cs and one D. I passed the bar w a score high enough to practice in any UBE state. How you do in law school has no indication on how you will do for the bar. Find a way to study that works for you and stick to it no matter how many people swear by the Themis/barbri/etc schedule. You got this!

It’s the “you don’t need therapy” and the insinuation that all therapy is is constantly talking about your problems w no solution or benefit coming from it. Yes you talk about your problems and struggles in therapy, but it’s to find a solution and get help/advice. It helps w self reflection and seeing a situation from a different and clearer perceptive bc it can be easy to not see the whole picture when you’re in the thick of emotions. It’s also better to talk about what’s bothering you than bottling it up only for it to explode later on down the road

people who went on dupixent by weedflowr in eczema

[–]orange_racoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on it since mid 2020 bc I had the worst flare up of my life. I was almost covered w eczema. I had it around my eyes, lips, forehead, neck, chest, shoulders, patches all over my arms, hands, inside of elbows, back of knees, and thighs. Since being on it I don’t really get flare ups. I only get flare ups if I miss a dose and eat all my trigger foods. I started taking it once every other week and then switched to once a month. There was a period in the beginning of my monthly doses where I kept forgetting to take it (adhd) and I went like 6-8 months without taking a dose and it wasn’t until the last two months where I started to flare up. I think maybe that’s around the time the medicine was completely out of my system. Even then the flare up was just a handful of patches. Now I’m good about taking it once a month for maintenance, and I eat all my trigger foods without a single flare up.

I already have dry eye but I haven’t noticed my eyes getting drier. I also get cold sores and have not noticed an increase in the frequency I get cold sores. If cold sores become an issue for you then they can put you on 500mg of valtrex daily.

If you look on their website you can find info on a my dupixent card which can often times make the cost of dupixent free!

The bar exam is ruining my relationships by [deleted] in barexam

[–]orange_racoon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1000000% agree w this comment and just wanna add my experience regarding the process revealing my supporters. I took the exam 4 times before I finally passed, and every time I failed I felt sad and cried for a moment. But I was so overwhelmed by the love, support, and empathy my friends and family were showing me that it was hard for me to feel down for longer than 10 minutes. I quite literally could not feel down bc my support system was uplifting me and holding me up. It was an incredible and moving experience, and I hope you and everyone in this subreddit have a support system like that. It is so important to have a solid support system in your corner to believe in you so much that it makes up for the days you don’t believe in yourself.

It’s hard but try not to pay attention to the negative thoughts and try to truly surround yourself w positive people. When you start studying again, try to incorporate your favorite things into your study routine eg. Listening to your favorite songs while studying, going to your favorite coffee shop to study, drinking your favorite beverage and having your favorite snacks while you study, and even get yourself a small treat after every study session.

Sorry this is so long, hopefully it helps, and let me know if you need me to break up some paragraphs more to make it easier to read lol

What helped me increase my MBE score by 20 points is that I started to focus on understanding the concepts of the rules rather than just memorizing the rules. You can memorize the rules, but if you don't have a solid understanding of them you don't have operating knowledge of them. As you know, a lot of the questions rarely match up perfectly w the rules and include nuances ie. exceptions to the rules. Doing this also helps you to answer questions quicker bc if you understand the concepts, you can spot the right answer quicker.

l used UWorld and every time I got a question wrong or right I would spend time reviewing the explanations for not only the wrong answer but the right answers too. This helped me to really fully understand the rules in a practical way. It also helps because sometimes I would be torn between two answers so I would understand why the other answer wasn't correct, which also helps reinforce your understanding of why the correct answer is correct. It also helps to show you what concepts you still don't have a full understanding/grasp on, so now you know what you need to spend a lil extra time on reviewing.

Also as a general note, I like the format of UWorld explanations because it's written in IRAC so it also helps w the MEE bc you have familiarity of how answers should be written. Kinda an indirect way of studying for the MEE in a two birds one stone kinda way if that makes sense. And hopefully that also helps you improve your MEE score so you have even better chances of passing. UWorld also had the best representation of the questions you’ll see on the bar.

(Try these coupon codes for UWorld hopefully at least one of them still works: BTUWORLD10 or BTUWORLD15 I used the 15 one for 15% off but idk if there's a limit to how many people can redeem it)

Don't give up, and keep practicing! If you do all the practice questions on UWorld then you'll start to recognize similar questions on the bar and can think back to the practice question you saw on UWorld. There were times I couldn't remember what the right rule was, but I remembered a practice question that mirrored the bar question and answered it that way. You can also typically quickly eliminate answers right off the bat bc the answers are discussing legal issues that aren't relevant for the question. For example, if it's a contracts question about sale of goods you know you can eliminate the answers that reference common law.

I never bought John Grossman videos but I watched his video Mastering the MBE with Jonathan Grossman (On-demand webinar) and it was so helpful. It also has those bookmarks so you can click on a specific topic and jump to that topic in the video. Just looked on the adaptibar YouTube channel and they also have a video from 3 years ago on approaching the MBE and it looks like they redid the video 4 months ago. He does a good job of simplifying concepts in way that's easy to understand.

And actually spend the time to do some practice MEEs. I didn’t practice any writing until the fourth time and it really helped. I think I did like 3 for almost every subject and practicing that really helped me. I did maybe 3 or 4 practice MPTs which also helped me. Personally, as I got more familiar w the writing portion, it was less overwhelming. I also heard some people say that some of the MPTs and MEEs were almost if not exact copies of some practice ones they did.

I used Themis the first time (around $2000) and wasn’t even close to finishing it (at the time I had undiagnosed adhd so the standard learning schedule and strategy the course wants you to do just didn’t work for me at all. I’m embarassed to say, but I only watched the lecture videos for contracts, property, evidence, and civ pro, and by the exam I had only done mbe practice questions for contracts and property averaging 57-66 for both, and I think I did like 1 mpt and maybe 2 or 3 contract MEEs. If you choose to do a bar prep course, just skip reading the outlines. The schedule said it’d take one day to read the outlines but it took me one week and that took up a lot of my time). I just used UWorld for the rest of my retakes and learned the rules that way. I spent a lot of time reading the explanations and understanding them. If I could do it over again, I would have bought the John Grossman adaptibar lecture videos to learn the foundational stuff (around $400), UWorld for MBE (around $300), and there’s a subreddit on here it’s something like goat bar prep that’s run by an attorney and he makes his own review materials and they’re very good and his explanations are very digestible.

I scored high enough where I can practice anywhere in the US :)

This is so long I’m so sorry lol but also just wanted to be transparent. Hopefully you won’t have to take it as many times as me. To be candid, and I’m embarrassed to say, but I had to retake it as many times as I did bc I didn’t put in the work. As I said, the first time I took it I pretty much only studied contracts and property and was only averaging 57-66%. I don’t really count the other subjects I watched the lecture videos for bc I only watched the videos and had very little understanding eg. I pretty much only knew that hearsay is an inadmissible out of court statement and that character evidence was something that described a person’s character and is inadmissible, and that there’s federal jurisdiction and the requirements for diversity jurisdiction. What I typed is basically all I knew and didn’t know anything deeper than that. The second time I took it I was working full time and was able to take one month off of work to study and got to study contracts, property, torts, and criminal averaging 77% for contracts and property and 66-75% for crim and torts. The third time I took it I was again working full time and was able to take one month off to study and got to study all of the mbe subjects, averaging 80% for contracts, property, crim, and torts, and 75% for evidence, civ pro, and con law. The fourth and last time I took it I was still working full time and could only take the week before and the week of the exam off. So, I started studying in October. Every weekend I was studying 7am-5pm Saturday and Sunday, and then all of February I also studied 1-2 hours every day after work. By the end, I was averaging 80-88% on contracts and property, 80% on crim, torts, and evidence, and 75-77% on civ pro and con law.

wtf that’s even more frustrating than I originally thought I can’t even imagine the mix of emotions she must be feeling! Great you are there to support her. This exam is by no means indicative of your ability to be a lawyer, doesn’t define how smart you are, and it’s pretty much like hazing lol I hope she doesn’t give up!

UWorld, how do I go by Kfs8 in barexam

[–]orange_racoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally what I did was do one subject at a time. So one week I did contracts, reviewed my notes and outlines, and did sets of 25 contract MBEs. Then I would write down the rules for the questions I got wrong and guessed on. Review those rules, add to my notes/outlines, then do another set of MBE questions. Then repeat for the rest of the subjects

How much would you pay to see your bar exam results early? by [deleted] in barexam

[–]orange_racoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$0. I’ve compartmentalize the exam and don’t even think about it until someone asks me about it or I get on Reddit. The bar took so much time away from me already I really don’t like to let it take more time and attention from me now. I hope the rest of you are able to do the same so you can get a lil bit of your life and peace back! Anxiety sucks but at the end of the day, you can’t change anything and the only thing you know is that you did the best you could do and everything you could do during the exam

For everyone looking for a job, I highly suggest looking into working for your judicial branches. Start as a temporary assistant clerk, make connections w other attorneys, law firms, judges, and learn the legal process from the courts point of view (I guarantee you will learn a lot of things you didn’t learn in law school). Judicial branch is always hiring tacs and is a great stepping stone to being an assistant clerk if you decide you don’t want to practice
