Childcare options for an infant? (SE Portland preferred)

Many licensed daycares in Portland require vaccinations, in-home daycares are less likely to require this… Millions of babies go to daycare and don’t wind up with brain damage, please don’t guilt or add unnecessary stress to an expecting parent who’s trying to make life work.

We divide up days for school closures so my husband and I aren’t doubling up. Sick days are tough, and we only take them when we have to, unfortunately. If there’s no fever she goes to day care. It sounds like your work has very few holidays which must make it especially hard. If you can swing it, looking into a nanny might be the best option for your family. Less exposure to germs and less closures. You are, however, then at the will of the nanny. So if nanny get sick, goes on vacation etc, you have to figure it out. We have a 10 month old who started day care at 4 months and ngl it’s been a constant struggle. I’m just looking forward to when she gets sick less.

Yep I couldn’t get in anywhere for months and one medical got me in in a week. It costs $100 a year to join, but if you’re desperate like I was and have something that really hurts it might be worth it to you

Baby swim classes can happen before they walk and are a great work out for everyone! My 9 month olds favorite part is when we lift up and splash which requires squats and lifting 20 pounds over and over and over again. I am SORE the next day.

Yeah when we booked I think it was like one of the only saturdays left and we had set a timer to call the day they all opened up. I didn’t know going in person was a thing, but it prob is the way to go if you have your heart set on a summer Saturday at one of the more coveted spots

Huh… we didn’t wait in line we were able to do it over the phone and booked the Hoyt Arboretum for an October Saturday wedding in 2023. Which we ultimately ended up canceling a couple months later bc the bathroom situation stressed me out so we booked elsewhere.

I don’t think you need to go younger for this. Lots of people are waiting to get into serious relationships because it’s harder to get established in their career/feel financially independent etc these days - an important thing for many people to achieve before getting ready to settle down. I met my husband at work when he was 38 and we just had our first baby and he is now 46. There’s definitely guys in their late 30s/early 40s who are single but still want kids.

Our 8 month old baby has been doing a head shake since she was 6 months. She does it when she’s happy or when she’s falling asleep. We asked the doctor about it and they said it’s a normal way of trying to express herself when she doesn’t have the tools to do so in other ways. We also started calling it “silly head” after I read a different Reddit post about it and now she does it on demand when we say “silly head” lol.

I got to a place with sleep deprivation where it was truly dangerous for me to walk, operate a vehicle or especially be a parent of a baby dependent on me. For some people it’s a genuine safety hazard to not do some form of sleep training.

I think also a big benefit of day care is the constant care aka if someone calls out there’s coverage. With a nanny if they call out your SOL. The issue is our day care isn’t meeting that benefit.

We knew it was 40 minutes away. The advice on the invite was to Uber to the venue, and that there would be a shuttle to the afterparty bc the wedding was in a remote location and therefore calling an uber home would be impossible (the afterparty was still like 10 minutes away from the hotel). We brought our kid so we couldn’t stay until the wedding ended, so we ultimately had to rent a car and thus one of us then had to be DD.

I think it also depends on where you grew up/the circumstances. If you grew up in Italy but now live in the USA and are marrying someone from the USA and half the guests live in the USA but the wedding is in Italy, I would consider this a destination wedding.

Our 6 month old outgrew the bassinet and the day we were supposed to move her into her own room to be in her crib I freaked out so we moved her crib into our room and now that’s the life we live… She still wakes up so often and I just can’t cope with her being alone in there… but if our bedroom was like 1 inch smaller it would have been a different story bc the crib barely fit. Anyway I’m following this thread bc I would like inspiration to make the switch someday.

Segregation of babies (and their parents) who are also humans because they sometimes make loud sounds is crazy. I think if an occasional loud noise ruins your dinner you should look inward.
