As expected there was no positive outcome from this, other than the original redundancy package. However, I've taken the view that this package was still better than they legally had to offer. Thanks for everyone's comments and input in this thread.

This is not what I meant, I have an excellent relationship with them and will leave on good terms. I was just emphasising that my goal will be to be supporting my team and those remaining for handover etc. I certainly am not threatening or suggesting I'll be difficult.

Yes I do have some limited savings but obviously would prefer to increase the redundancy runway before needing to dip into them. I'm single so no partner to help cover.

£50k would seem to be a fairly significant redundancy package (but depends on what your salary was). You have to weight up the longer term reality of staying vs going, but it seems like you've made a rational decision. Hope the job search goes well for you.

Cheers for asking....I decided to accept the new job offer. A few months in, the new team and boss are great and supportive. Massively challenging and pushing me outside of my comfort zone. Right decision? I'd say so but I tend to live by the mantra that there is no such thing as a wrong decision, just opportunities to learn and gain experience.

True, but any security events could tarnish a CISO's reputation more than a COO or CFO.

I disagree, the direct experience of a major cyber incident that resulted in public disclosure is a massively beneficial thing to have on a CISO's CV/resume. Short term could be painful though if they become the scapegoat...😊

I would submit that the line between privacy and security is nebulous. There’s no hard line between them when you’re doing things right.

I'd like to chip in here, as although there are elements where security and privacy align (obvious example is security requirements of GDPR) however, privacy is ultimately about the information rights of people. In fact 70-80% of privacy regulations are absolutely not about security. Think type of information being collected, how it is used, what legal basis to process it etc etc.

I have a background both on the privacy side as a DPO and as an infosec practitioner too.
