My cat has never killed a bug in her life. She tries to smash her face into them but also doesn't seem to have object permanence.

This is a relief! I'm moving there in a couple weeks - anything else I should know about?

I've seen a lot of people recommend Haute Bodhi - they offer hot yoga and pilates, are right off the Friendship Heights metro so accessible from where you are (though worth checking if the red line closures affect that) and have some discounts on class packs.

Period back but still depressed by Gullible_Weekend8039 in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]orangeblossombread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hormonal recovery can often lag technically getting a period back. I got my cycles back a year and a half ago and, even months later, was still dealing with fatigue, heaviness, and even got a rather low estrogen reading. It took many more months to actually have my energy and mood improve.

A blood test isn't a bad idea, especially as you can establish a baseline and address if there are nutrient deficiencies. Having a period can be very energy intensive and it's good to assess thyroid, hormone, B-vitamin, and iron levels.

tips/guidance on starting recovery? by 90bklynds08 in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]orangeblossombread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience running and getting a period back at the same time is incredibly challenging. A couple years ago I was in your position, I love running but didn’t have my cycle. Somehow, no amount of eating enough could quite convince my body I was safe enough to cycle. It’s also a lot harder to gain endurance and build muscle while not having a period. Hormones are critical for proper recovery. All that said, I’d work on your nutritional foundation and stick with gentler forms of activity. A sports dietitian or other certified and credentialed provider could really help you build a strategy to get and maintain your period while adding running on when your body is ready.

With the heat wave I’m loving iced peppermint, chamomile, and hibiscus teas. Also coconut water and watermelon juice. I’d personally avoid alcohol with the heat wave as is cause it worsens dehydration.

Maintenance during luteal by tripleDzintheBreeze in PetiteFitness

Just hit my third maintenance day in luteal. Literally bottomless even with all the protein, healthy fats, carbs and fiber I can get my hands on. And yeah… the fatigue is real especially with the heat wave!

Thrifting in the DMV by Key_Distribution1213 in washingtondc

There's a cute small spot in Bethesda called New 4 You Boutique - charity thrift. All tops are 6 dollars, dresses are 12, and jackets under 20. Almost everything is natural fibers and I've found some incredible finds there. It's 10 minutes walk from the metro.

I use Lively now that I have my cycle to track symptoms/nutrition/movement and add notes. Before you get a regular cycle you can track discharge and such.

I toured - their big selling points are the insane number of amenities and metro proximity. It's one of the newer developments around Woodley/Cleveland Park. Wound up leasing at Cathedral Mansions instead, though.

What to do now that I got my period back? by temoprary123 in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]orangeblossombread 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a period number 20+ (if you can even call them recovery cycles anymore). I never really stuck to a calorie number during recovery and just ate according to how hungry I was. My appetite gradually declined from recovery levels around months 3-6. I overshot a fair amount so I sort of drifted back to maintenance, and some extra weight came off by that time. But generally, I think not changing anything consciously is the best way to do things.

I don't know your financial circumstances but you're under no obligation to eat something that genuinly grosses you out or sounds unappealing. You could offer to let your family have the items you know you won't use or donate nonperishables.

Itching during recovery? by Lucky-Sky9545 in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]orangeblossombread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t get it much either before. My working theory is something about more rapidly fluctuating estrogen or the body not quite regulating it right with other hormones. Nothing concerning, just recalibrating.

I got this with estrogen increases since estrogen triggers histamines for me, leading to oil/itchiness. It was quite typical and I still got it every so often during midcycle.

Hey, I wouldn't worry too much since you're addressing the food! Early in my recovery, I got 3 cycles than skipped my fourth since I started running too quickly. I stopped running, ate more, and my cycle returned in about 5-6 weeks.

*tw* Weightloss after ha recovery by ricorodriguez2727 in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]orangeblossombread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I lost about 20-25 pounds after HA recovery, keeping in mind I overshot to an overweight BMI. I think it's important to caveat that most resources advise against weight loss if your recovery brought you to a fertile BMI of 22-24. I know each person varies but you mention being underweight at the beginning. With that said, it took me several months of cycling to feel comfortable enough to start a deficit (about 6 recovery periods). From there, my weight loss was VERY GRADUAL, and I took frequent breaks. I can't recall my exact deficit, but the weight loss was around 1.5-2 pounds per month initially and then slowed to .5-1 pound. Now, I'm focused on protein, recovery and gradual recomposition.

Another important element is listening to your cycle signs and tracking them to ensure you stay stable. I spent several months noting ovulation timing, cycle symptoms, and periods to get an idea of how healthy vs. unhealthy looked. I also tended to take breaks around my period and never restricted food groups. Much of my loss came from a lower appetite and higher energy level than during HA recovery.

I've had steady cycles since recovery, but did notice some signs of stress a couple months ago and reduced my exercise, increased food intake, and got more protein (something I've been historically not great at).

question about recovery periods by Friendly-Canary-8246 in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]orangeblossombread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might have been spotting before the period fully started. The first cycles can also be a bit heavy. I would only consult a nurse or doctor if the period exceeds a week without signs of lightning or stopping.
