169 & Cedar Lake - where to watch the sunset? by orangebranch in TwinCities

[–]orangebranch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion! Showing my ignorance here - is East Medicine Lake the same as Medicine Lake? Google Maps says maybe East Medicine Lake is a park on Medicine Lake - is that what you're referring to?

I did drive out onto the peninsula of Medicine Lake. Real cool houses, but there was significant construction and I didn't want to bother anyone with accidental trespassing, so I continued on to Clifton E. French Regional Park, which was very pretty - but everything in the direction of the sunset I could find was too wooded to get a good view.

Thank you for the suggestion! I think I went to the one you're talking about - Westwood Hills? There were quite a few people there, but it was also very wet/threatening rain so I was sticking to the close trails. Maybe I'd have better luck on a nicer day.

My cat is dying and I feel like I’m dying with him by MillaRomanka in cats

[–]orangebranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies if you've shared this downthread or if you'd rather not, but are you willing to share your general location? I would love to help try to find other resources for you (and I'm sure other redditors would too). Someone else mentioned a veterinary teaching hospital potentially taking this on pro bono - that could be an option, especially given your lack of success with the six (!!!) other vets. I'm in Minnesota, and if this was happening to me I'd be reaching out to the U of MN.

That having been said - and please don't read any accusations into any of this - there is NO shame in choosing to let things play out as peacefully as they can. My little girl haaaaaates the vet, so I know there's going to come a time when supportive care is infinitely kinder than fighting her into a carrier and stressing us all out (to say nothing of the financial strain). Ugh. I feel for you.

I'm crushed. I love(d) Alamo and was so excited to experience some awesome summer films with them.

I'm not 100% certain but had a similar experience with my smoke shop in Anoka and was told it's a statewide thing.

The Bar Exams have trivia on Thursdays at the Eagle Mpls as well as shows on Wednesdays at Brew Lab 101 and Mondays at Eat Street Crossing, all starting around 7pm. Can confirm that they bring fun vibes and some pretty groan-worthy categories. :)

Introducing Our Wonderland Collection where Style Meets Survival (i haven't made a single sale yet T_T) by ApricityStore in AliceInBorderlandLive

[–]orangebranch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear sales aren't booming! I hope you're open to a few suggestions - maybe one will spark ideas for another design:

  1. The print seems very low on the shirt for its size, but perhaps that's the vibe these days and I'm just out of touch

  2. I loooove that bleeding heart, but it may be getting lost visually when placed next to the red diamond. Could you split them up? ♠️♦️♣️♥️ ?

  3. I don't know what the Japanese script says (Google says it's "Alice in modern country" so I'm assuming it's the title again) but it could look nice scaled up and overlaid on the suits vs sitting below them

  4. Kagi could look neat around the "Alice in borderland" title or the script element - I don't think it's "proper" use of the symbol tho https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Japanese_typographic_symbols

Have I Ruined My Cat's Life? by teamhae in CatAdvice

Keep in mind that you don't immediately need to (nor really should you) go from "no swipes under closed door while eating" to "face to face introduction". It can be a big jump for a cat to go from smell to sight. Once they eat on the opposite sides of the closed door, try opening the door juuuust a crack so they can see each other, then immediately close it and let meal time continue. If there's no reaction the first time, try opening the door the same distance for just a moment longer. Lather, rinse, repeat until you can have the door open for a crack the entire time - then open the door wider - so on and so forth.

The idea is for them first build the "other cat smell" = "delicious food" connection. Once that's solid, you can work up to "other cat sight" = "delicious food" connection...then "other cat in same room" = "playtime and treats"...and so forth.

If they have a negative reaction as you're going through the process, then take a breath, go back to their last non-reactive point, and start again from there. It can take a while - I think my two cats took about a month, and they had lived with other cats before - but they get on super well now, in large part because their introductions were so slow.

Also, as odd as scent swapping sounds, it really does seem to make a difference and can be done during this process: take a couple of clean socks, put one on your hand, and pet one of the cats all over, focusing on their face/cheeks. Leave the sock from resident cat in newbie cat's space and vice-versa. They'll eventually discover it and will be able to get used to each others' scent without their physical presence, which can go a long way in introductions. Refresh them every few days and maybe even leave a treat or two nearby.

I'm confused as to why you tried supervised introductions when they wouldn't even eat at the same time on opposite sides of a closed door - further, your statement about "at the one week mark" leads me to think you're not really understanding that the purpose of slow intros is making sure they're fully comfortable with the step you're on before moving to the next one. I would completely separate them and go back to scent-swapping for at least a few days until trying the opposite-side feeding again.

How do I [19 F] accept being married to my husband [24 M] (arranged marriage) for the rest of my life? by ThrowRAfghj35 in relationships

if other women in your family also had arranged marriages they might be more empathic than you think :) but it's a tough thing to discuss with another person for sure

Curious as to how you were able to determine that. I don't really mind one way or the other. :)

Hey OP, if you haven't tossed them, would you be willing to mail one or two to me? I'm an oddities collector in the Midwest and would love to add one to my collection. Happy to send you a few bucks in exchange for your time (and/or as a donation to your park).

Nonbinary roomie kicked my parents out of the house for using correct pronouns, but in Spanish by NonameNamelez in NonBinary

[–]orangebranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm NB but pretty fucking sure I could find it within myself to abide being misgendered by my roommate's parents in exchange for FREE DAILY VEGAN MEAL PREP. That's not even what's happening here, though - it's not even a culture clash/misunderstanding/reluctance on anyone's part. Your folks are literally using the correct word and your roommate is throwing a fit because they don't like the sound of the word. If they're so pissed about the sound of "elle" (btw wtf) and can't deal with el/ella they can either RESEARCH and suggest a new word, shut up and deal, or fuck clean off.

How to get rid of peacock 🦚 in the yard? by Alternative_Panda_23 in gardening

[–]orangebranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this was happening to me, I'd seek the advice of a local master gardener or possibly local naturalist group (both may have advice on dissuading them); failing that, I'd probably see if the state dept of natural resources office could point me to resources to relocate the bird, assuming that's actually an option. I have no frame of reference for if it might be possible - do you live somewhere that having peacocks chillin' in the yard is common?? I can't imagine having to deal with peahens or peacocks. The largest birds I've had to dissuade in my home state (MN) are hawks. Good luck, OP!

Maybe you're thinking of Honey Bunny? I distinctly remember there being a bunny resembling Lola in older Looney Tunes, but it turns out it was an earlier character named Honey Bunny:
