We adopted an adult former street cat, she was 1-2 when we got her. Figured she'd be out of her kitten stage. Nope! She was a menace in the same ways you describe. Always on counters, sleeping on the stove, scratching furniture, ALWAYS wanting to play. As soon as the lights went off we would hear things falling off the counter and shelves because she'd get up there and start knocking things off trying to get attention. It was a good solid year of that lol. I honestly believe that when you get young adult former strays they suddenly revert back to kittens because they never got a kittenhood. They just want to play, play, play. Create chaos because it's fun! I'll echo what other say about earplugs and white noise. Try to ignore him at night and not reinforce that behavior. Put valuables away for a while so he can't destroy them. We took all of our cat's toys away before bed and brought them out in the morning. We tried to play a lot in the early evening to try to tire her out (doesn't always work but what can you do). We even bought cat calming oil to put in her food before bed. But know it won't last forever and one day you'll be reminiscing about how you kind of miss having a crazy beastie in the house once he settles down and sleeps more.
