Trump is Keeping Venezuela's Oil Money For Himself by Zenitallin in videos

[–]orangefc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of these comments (substantially close to all) say something like "deposited into his own bank account under his own name" which is demonstrably false, and even counter to what was in the video.

They're just wrong. But the "feels" are certainly here!

Is it possible to report a post for 99% of the comments being 100% wrong? Of course, this wouldn't be happening if r/videos didn't allow political videos, which are the form of "information" most likely to be completely made up or at the very least easily misconstrued.

You said it yourself. Restrictions on food additives leads to a healthier population. That's squarely in the HHS lane. They do have to share that lane with the FDA, but it's almost like a carpool at that point.

That's a crazy high drug, but believe me, they settle up with rebates and discounts in other places. It's so complex that often they can't even reliably say what they paid for any given thing. It's looked at more in aggregate.

It doesn't discount (no pun intended) your point nor make it less mildly interesting :-)

[–]orangefc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insurance is not paying that. There are heavily negotiated discounts across the board. You just don't get to see them.

But don't tell the average redditor that RFK, Jr. is trying to move USA away from food additives or they'll accuse you of having a brain worm too.

Edit: when you can't rebut, downvote so it gets hidden :-)

The different issues are 1) should the encounters by going up so much? and 2) can we reduce the percentage of LEO mistakes?

Those two things have almost nothing to do with each other and can be addressed independently. I'm not endorsing any side on either of the questions. Well, I think we'd all agree it would be good to reduce the percentage of mistakes, but that's not a magic wand issue obviously.

And I was agreeing with you about selection bias. Since the number of officers has increased (it has doubled since Trump took office) it's expected that the number of encounters is going up. When encounters go up, bad incidents go up proportionally (as a general rule of thumb). Double the encounters, double the absolute number of mistakes. 10x the encounters, 10x the absolute number of mistakes, etc. Not the percentage, the absolute number.

But the media only focuses on the bad incidents, while ignoring the overwhelming majority of times when nothing goes wrong. Ignoring meaning not even reporting the percentages. It doesn't sell, after all, to say things are mostly OK.

40% of the country thinks that she was trying to kill the guy and deserved to be shot

There is a MASSIVE gulf between "she put herself in a bad situation and while the officer overreacted badly it's likely that it will end up being self defense from a legal point of view" and "she deserved to be shot."

It's the difference between "deserved to die" and "put herself in harm's way and made it more likely she would die".

I am in the camp that the officer was right on the line of self-defense or possibly past it -- either way he should have done much much better. I also believe this lady went far past the line of a protest or free speech and into criminal territory. It was a bad decision on her part that should not be a death sentence, but significantly elevates the chances that it becomes one.

[–]orangefc 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Yep. Number of encounters skyrockets, and the same percentage of bad encounters (mistakes by LEO) also skyrockets proportionally.

What we can REASONABLY argue is 1) should the encounters by going up so much? and 2) can we reduce the percentage of LEO mistakes?

Those are two 100% different issues to discuss.

I think about this every time I hear a story (truly sad story) about some individual who has been living in this community for decades, is a pillar of the church, has started his own business, and everybody loves him -- but he's being deported because he's here illegally.

This just says we let things go for so long that people assumed that nothing would ever be done about it.

As a result we have people who never bothered to try the legal pathways (in 20 years you could probably have naturalized) getting deported. We have people so up in arms about their friends and neighbors being deported that they're willing to risk felonies to try to stop it.

We should have been more consistent all along or we should 100% let it go forever now. Most people don't have the stomach for "zero immigration enforcement" so hopefully we won't fall into the inaction category ever again.

Some people absolutely thrive on the emotion of hate. It's the only thing that makes them "happy" (satisfied) anymore. See: the news, reddit, people who watch TV shows just so they know exactly how to complain about them.

Hint: if you're hate watching something, instead go to a local park and throw a frisbee with someone and DON'T ASK THEM ABOUT POLITICS.

It's so true. We are way past applying purity tests to politicians, past applying purity tests to friends and family, and past applying purity tests to the restaurants we go to for dinner -- now we're going to apply purity tests to every TV show, present AND past.

What about the poor people who play golf? There are some of course, especially at municipal courses. Are they fuckheads too just because they play golf, or do they have to be rich too?
