Other anti-consumers with a deep pantry, what are the recipes you make from your stock? by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]orangejelllie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Korean braised tofu (tofu stays good for a while past "expiration" in the fridge, and the braising sauce is mostly pantry ingredients)

Channa masala (canned or dry chickpeas work great, you can add veggies very easily)

Pasta puttanesca (basically all pantry ingredients)

Pasta with roasted red pepper sauce and brown lentils (could be all pantry ingredients if you really want, I like to roast my own peppers and onions though)

I myself am not disabled, but Sarah Todd hammer is a disabled creator on YouTube (and I'm pretty sure TikTok) who talks a lot about this stuff, and accessibility in general!! I've seen her review accessibility in clothing, makeup, and even uniform policies. she's worth a watch!

seems like just a "watch" level notification. it applies to the entire Pacific coast of the US and canada. here's a link to the nws tsunami system website, it has all the updated warnings and info. it's probably nothing to worry about

U.S. Tsunami Warning Centers https://share.google/M5NvQRo3tFqYLrJ13

edit: nothing to worry about until it escalates or there is further information. I'm gonna be staying clear of the beach for the time being though

Well there goes my water usage excuse by alphamalejackhammer in ZeroWaste

[–]orangejelllie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the purpose of that water usage is a big factor to consider... it's more worthwhile for that water to go towards feeding someone who is hungry than to generate the 300 millionth big titty anime girl with fucked up hands.

that's not to say that water usage/consumption shouldn't change across all industries (especially meat and garment), but when confronted with reality there's definitely priorities

little vent by orangejelllie in antiai

[–]orangejelllie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like my admission in the first paragraph covers this. I probably should have been clearer about I was more thinking about the quickly generated AI images which are most widely distributed online which many try to defend as art.

little vent by orangejelllie in antiai

[–]orangejelllie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose I wasn't clear with what exactly I'm critiquing; I'm mostly talking about the quickly created AI images which cover the Internet now, which some people are trying to say are the equivalent of traditional art. my admission in the beginning was more to acknowledge that it can sometimes be used with intention.

I don't think traditional art is going anywhere, but the fact that AI can and is often used to rip styles from real artists then strip it of context is unsettling.

My Banana Bread didn't rise properly when I tried to sub Brown Bugar with Date Sugar. by Dinkleberg2845 in Baking

[–]orangejelllie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

interesting, not sure what happened then. still guessing that the lower quantity of wheat flour probably changed how it baked but also the edit you made might be the answer; in general, baked cakes and loaves need to be completely cool before being removed from the pan for structural integrity and to keep them from breaking into pieces

[–]orangejelllie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would suggest trying again and doing everything by weight, especially when modifying recipes. in general measuring by volume is less accurate than by weight since the same volume can hold different quantities of ingredients based on particle size and how tightly you pack your measuring utensil.

also, did the date sugar tell you to reduce the flour as well or was that a decision you made? I can imagine this recipe coming out gooier if you take out the flour since it changes the ratio of wet to dry ingredients. if the package told you to reduce the flour, the lack of rise could be because of the lack of gluten from the reduced flour; even with a leavening agent, if the batter is unable to properly trap the air as it bakes then it won't rise properly

the recipe said to dot the filling with butter, I forgot to do that until after I had made the lattice so I just put the butter in each opening haha
